MS and Sony sales spin is out of control

VideoGamer.com writes: "When did Microsoft and Sony turn into the Labour and Conservative parties? When did spin become the by-word of the games industry, an industry centred on cutting edge entertainment, not back-stabbing political manoeuvring and posturing? Gamers are in it for the fun, not the sex, lies and questionable licensed titles. When did we become so used to shape-shifting comments and backtracking official positions that we now question every stat pumped out of the mighty PR machine?"

1 - The spin cycle.
Oh probably when it crossed the 25 billion dollar a year gross mark.

2 - Who wouldn't try to spin it in their favor?
It's only the biggest huge multiplatform game coming to both consoles this year.

There is also fallout and resident evil but that's later in the year.

4 - The real question is
Why shouldn't they spin if they are technically correct?.

4.1 - Exactly
There is nothing wrong with it as long as you don't lie. The spinning I hate is when restaurants do it. Where I use to work, they claimed their chowder won 5 different Chesapeake Bay awards. The only problem is there aren't 5 awards to win in that area.

The PR/Business aspect of the gaming industry has bothered me for a while. So much of it is so out of touch with gamers, and, quite frankly, shows a lack of understanding. Its an old mans business in a young mans world. They think we are stupid apparently, and think we dont get it when they spin things.

5.1 - The problem is too many gamers go for the spin.
Too many people have become fanboys of whatever and are no longer capable of honesty. They have to stick to their side no matter what. When it come to anything that has money at stake, look out for a bs storm. Look at politics, most of the people are just fanboys. People will believe in anything if the information comes from their group. It's really sad and needs to change. But, I'm not holding my breath. Especially because I want to live.

the thing is people do believe it and it only fuels fanboy rants. if the companys had respect for each other then it would reduce fanboyism. but because they dont and they take a swipe at each other at every chance the fanboys from both side take a swipe at each other too. it needs to stop but it never will.

Hmm, sadly you guys are totally right. Its nothing but fact when it comes from your favorite console and nothing but BS when it comes from the competition.

Have you watched the news? Did you see the new story about Britny Spears? Did you see the story about the bloodshed in Kasmir?

what one of the two storys gets more play on American News networks?

if you read PR statments as truth your a fool

I dont know why sites like this are complaining. As soon as it began, they begin to put up titles that fuel fanboy wars, generating mass hits to their otherwise mediocre site. They're talking as if they know what justice is, but feeding off of the same exact thing they're chastising. Silly interwebs.

I would market exclusively to the either one.

it's going to give me ulcers, but i would be guaranteed a job for quite a while.

My household had a 100% attach rate for Grand Theft Auto IV and PS3 sales were up 100% over the previous decade. This proves that if developers want to sell games, my house is the best play to sell them to. Also, 1 in 5 members of my household would gladly pay double the price of the RRP to get the game earlier than anyone else.

HINT HINT KONAMI / MEDIA MOLECULE

Damn, spin is easy!!!

Last time I check Sony won last quarter in Austraila by 47%, sold more than 30 million more in revenue in software for Electronic Arts than the XBox 360 and we already know how muich its winning by in Europe. Both consoles are literally neck and neck in America, though PS3 has sold more consoles in America than the Xbox 360 so far, in 2008.

How can you spin that?

13 - PR is fine, but the PR folks ain't
Look at Apple's PR, or any of their interviews. They actually seem like normal people who have a realistic view on the industry. Jack Tretton, Aaron Greenberg, Kaz Hirai, Peter Moore, and the other PR guys are fuc*ing idiots. It's not even funny how stupid they can be. They're confident, but I can't see how they expect me to believe their lies. One second, Home is the best and is coming along nicely. The next second, they weren't satisifed and needed more time. Or how about 360 having "options" with the disc drive, but now 360 owners can't purchase an HD drive.

This is just one of the negative effects we're all going to have to deal with, thanks to gaming becoming more mainstream. It's only going to get worse now that gaming is big business. When big money consumes something, it always drags along big bullsh!t to the party.

No, it's all true. These venerable prophets of Microsoft and Sony will open your eyes. Only thier console(ation)s will guide you to the promised Level. So pick your faith, heed the word
