In photos: Wii Fit around the world

By the time Wii Fit arrives in North America tomorrow, Wii Fit will have, in under six months, become a gaming and fitness phenomenon worldwide.

The magic of the Internet (specifically Flickr) allows players to document their experience with Wii Fit in photographs, and that's just what WiIFitChat.com aims to show you in this feature. From Scotland to Japan and from Australia to Italy, WiiFitChat has compiled images that show how the whole planet (and its pets) is getting into the Wii Fit groove.

from a business standpoint, Nintendo may well be pulling in greenback for this product. At the end of the day, it is still exactly that, a good product, with good marketing.

There has been research that suggest that even 15 minutes of decent physical activities would be beneficial to the health.

Also, from a medical perspective, I believe any incentive no matter how small for people to exercise is a great thing. Good work Nintendo.

physical activities is not enough to be fit. Playing Wii fit for an hour will do you no good if you still eat 10 cheese burgers a day.

It would be less detriment to the person though.

Indeed, I did not say they would be fit. I said that it would be beneficial to their health, even if they had 10 cheeseburgers.

The effect may be small, but it is still an effect. For example, Blood Pressure, a reduction of blood pressure in a hypertensive patient is a positive outcome, no matter the change in size. The wear and tear high blood pressure is on the body is life threatening as it is a determinant for many more serious diseases.

If somebody told me 5 years ago that a mat and a remotecontroller would become the best selling things in gaming, I would have laughed til I dropped dead. Anyway, good for Nintendo!

While Nintendo's latest gadget on the Wii will promote people to be more active, physical studies have shown that Wii Fit doesn't replace actual exercise. With actual exercise, people were shown to burn at least twice as many calories as when using Wii Fit. On top of that Wii Fit doesn't engage cardio exercises, merely calorie burning. It's important to engage in cardio exercises as well as calorie burning. Getting your heart rate up and maintaining it for a full 30 minutes per day is more important than merely burning a hundred calories or so. Just from a fitness perspective.
