I've played almost every Zelda and Mario game there is, and no doubt they are some of the best games ever made, but Ocarina of Time just seems so epic, and so deep, even for an N64 game, it's the deepest and greatest game I've ever played.

Exactly.
If you're comparing the number of reviews for both games GTAIV is still on top.
I loved Ocarina of time, but this metacritic/game rankings system is flawed when it comes to retro games that were only reviewed by a handful of editors.

Completely agree with you. How many worthless sites are reviewing games now? Alot of them gave GTA4 10/10's, which it didn't deserve.

Really not even fair to pit it against OOT, which only has a handful of reviews.

GTA 4 is an awesome game but its not a 10/10 IMO aside from the things you said heres some more nit picks

no tanks,
cops are almost everywhere,
taxis almost never stop,
lacking in clothes,
I have yet experienced a good multiplayer game above three people,
redundant controls,
I can't count how many times a car hit me while crossing the street,
drunk driving 0.o?
I hailed a taxi cab more then I steal cars not sure its bad or not but its called GTA.

It overall feels like they took more out of the game then added if it wasn't for the multiplayer( in which I never truly exp) then the game imo shouldn't get more then a 7 rating.

Maybe MGS 4 will dethrone Ocarina. I have my doubts though... main reason being that a lot of sites that just gave a 10 to GTA 4 will be skeptical of giving out another 10 so soon.

Just look at the scores. GamerNode gave it 8.7. Of course the game DOESN'T deserve it but it seems like everyone is trying to bash GTA4 and simply do their best to get Ocarina back to the top which is unfair.
Seriously, GTA4 beat all ratings and became the highest rated game of all time. Now all Nintendo and Ocarina fans are trying to get it down. 8.7!? Seriously?

Timesplitter14, I know what you mean. I'm no GTA fan. The reason I defend it and say this is stupid is because I see that some sites and people are just giving lower scores to GTA4 to protect Ocarina and 8.7!? WTF?
Just look at N4G. We've had at least a dozen of different stories with title of "Why GTA4 sucks" or " Top 10 reasons that GTA4 is not great" or things like that.
It's so disgusting to discredit a game just to protect an older one, no matter how beloved.

Well that's true, but I still think this little fix is for the better. GTA4 doesn't diserve any of the top spots. The gaming culture has way better than this. We have games that could beat any movie you want on the emotional side. We have some of the most complex scenarion ever written.

It's something to be proud of, and I don't want this pride stained by GTA4

EDIT : For those who don't know what the hell I'm talking about, play through the entire Metal Gear saga, Bioshock, FF7, Chrono Trigger, SotC and come back.

I know what you mean and even though I don't consider GTA4 a stain, I COMPLETELY agree with the games you mentioned but above all, the original MGS is the true legend. Give Ocarina to a gamer that has played all kinds of modern games from Okami to SotC and he/she will find Ocarina pretty normal but give the same modern kid the original MGS.
Metal Gear Solid one is THE one game that has stood the test of time. Ocarina is nothing bot nostalgia. I even say that for FFVII.

MGS1 and SOTY indeed deserve the top spot. It's funny how MGS3 is my fave MGS game but still, nothing comes close to the revolutionary MGS1.

He/She would find it normal only because most of those modern games are HEAVILY inspired by Ocarina of Time (And Mario 64 of course). It's normal to them because they've been playing the games inspired by those that Set the notion of what a 3d game should be like.

iamtehpwn, you are partially right but if anything, it is MGS that has had the biggest effect on gaming. Seriously, many gameplay ideas from cover cam to cinematic in-game cut-scenes and much more owe it to MGS.
Also, it's pretty wrong to consider Ocarina is the main inspiration for 3D games. Original Tomb Raider was released a year before Ocarina and if anything, it is TR and Mario 64 that influced some of 3D basis like camera and level exploration and Ocarina if fact had a rather small effect except on few great games like Okami.
MGS and Mario 64 are the real pioneers and MGS is the absolute best. Every aspect of MGS is copied to death yet it's still beyond fresh and enjoyable after all these years while Ocarina isn't any more.

MGS may have provided great real time cut scenes, and great game play, but OOT still provided everything a gamer could imagine. Zelda is the Series that first pioneered free roaming game play, that games like the Elder Scrolls use for life and blood.

Again, Sometimes its not always about the pinnacle itself but the notion it sets into action.

OOT had many flaws and is not as great as Link to the Past IMO.

While yes, Windwaker is a great game, it just didn't have that touch that made Ocarina of Time such a masterpiece. I still play Oot now, and never get bored with Master Quest, it truly is ( to my at least) the best game I've ever played.

However, Wind Waker was more so Ocarina of Time's innovations. Ocarina is what established the greatness and epic win, Wind Waker followed.

On that Note, Wind Waker was one of the best Zelda games of all time. Blows twilight princess out of the water. But due to the Art style turning some people off, I Think there was a determination to make it 200% so that users would still see it was the Same Link and gameplay we know and love.

haha. On a side note, Eiji Aonuma even said Twilight Princess didn't even a direction until it's final stages of development (if you look at the early trailers there are evironments/dungeons, and highly detailed graphics that never made it into the final versions =P)

Zelda oot didnt had the same impact to me as it did with -Link to the past-. OOT was a great game its still graved in my memory, but i still think LTTP = best

Also i value Windwaker over OOT, that game is magicle anyone claiming its " kiddy" and therefor doesnt wants to play is missing out one epic game.

OMG, I can't believe it. Something that I 100 percent agree with you. I also love WW and prefer it to OOT and I also think that the best Zelda is LTTP in terms of quality but my personal fave among Zeldas is a TIE between Phantom Hourglass and WindWaker (Both of which reminded me of LTTP).

screw review sites i say. i go by personal taste. i liked Link to the Past enough to where i knew i'd like Ocarina of Time, and i liked GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas enough to know that i'd like GTA IV. neither OcT or GTA IV were perfect in my book, unlike the countless sites that have given them both perfect scores. i go by developer's pedigree and videos (not videos made by Gametrailer, mind you) to determine what i think will be good. Gamespot gave Motorstorm 7.9/10, and it's easily a 9 in my book. IGN gave Mass Effect something like 9.4 and in my book its no more than 8.5. i think as more developers release demos to their games on PSN and Live so that gamers can try them out for themselves, the importance of site reviews will increasingly dwindle.
