6 Reasons Why Wii Could Be the Future of Gaming

RewiredMind:

"Well, it only took one post (6 Reasons…Why the Wii isn't the Industry's Saviour) to bring out the hardcore Wii defenders (see, I didn't use that word) yesterday, despite me never saying that I hated the Wii as a platform, or chastising Nintendo in any real way…other than to say that the price of Virtual Console games is far too high. I did mention that I'd file a set of counter-arguments, and that is exactly what you're reading now.

So without further ado, let's roll on and see six reasons why the Wii could be the future of gaming."

but I still like lego.. Its ingenious toy, and I hope that my children will be fortunate as me and have access to these expensive little toys.

Cultivating Great Minds is what toys such as lego and those like it will do.

2 - "i could give u 6 reasons why the wii will NOT"
LOL, go ahead and give your six reasons. The Wii is outselling all the other consoles every month 'in every region.' Seems to me that 'somebody.' must like it. Wouldn't you think?

ya I'd say somebody must like it :P, not me but somebody, I do have a great amount of respect for that console though, in a world of games when people think the main advantage is graphics, it sure proved people wrong (including me, I thought it would be this one year fad, and then lose interest with everyone), but I think if nintendo was to bring out the wii 2 or whatever, it won't be as big a hit. which is why I believe Nintendo will have to bring out a console next gen that will focus on processing power. though the wiimote is here to stay, if they plan on implementing backwards compatability. but hey thats what I think. I'm most likely wrong, ha.

2.3 - yea somebody also loves UNO
guess what, there are some products that are UNO-related but they never sell as well as UNO itself

Okay Wii can sell big for once, but i don't see Wii 2 or something alike coming, it won't happen

2.4 - Ya really?...let Sony make a $200 console...
and then let's see who sells more. Face it, price and gimmick control are the only selling points of the wii

4 - I don't Think Wii itself will be the future, but the Concept will be
Easy to use interfaces, and a more interactive way to play video games. Wii itself may not be much, but Concept it potentially bears is impressive; That Video games may no longer be about sitting down and playing, and may eventually, games may involve your entire body to play.

Sony and microsoft updated their hardware and made it more powerful and high tech, and the wii is beating them both horribly. I'm assuming that next gen, that'll result in all 3 companies pandering for the casual audience rather than the hardcore the next go around. Which really sucks for hardcore gamers, but there's not really much we could do about it. We all should have bought 2 of our consoles, that way they could have outsold the wii. Have fun playing super halo tennis and Metal Gear kart racing next gen.

Of course Microsoft and Sony will put a lot of emphasis on casual gamers in the cycle, but I believe we will really see titles like Sony Dog or MicroDogs. Instead I see the companies expanding their portfolio of 1st titles and really encourage their developers think "Casual".

You are a fool. You assume that graphical power = hardcore game.. It doesnt but no point in even trying to convince someone that brain washed of how wrong they are. I guess the Ps2 didnt have a single hardcore title considering how weak it was when compared to the Gc, and 360.. Oh but wait it had hardcore titles... Odd how a 233mhz system has no problems doing it but you fools are some how trying to get everyone to believe its no longer possible simply because a Nintendo console is the weakest this gen. When it was SOny the last two gens all the casual games and shovel ware were no problem. Now that its on Nintendo its the end of gaming though..

the day the Wii, or any device with a Wii-like interface, becomes the only standard of the game industry will mark the last day i buy a console. don't get me wrong: i respect what Nintendo's attempting to do, and i genuinely like the Wii, but only as a supplement to my PS360. i love Wii Sports and Wii Play, but i hate every other conventional game that i've played on the Wii, including Super Mario Galaxy and Twilight Princess. those games belong on consoles with traditional controllers.

9.1 - Interesting...
I honestly don't see how you would rather play Zelda with conventional controllers after playing it with the wiimote. I found using the wiimote/nunchuck combination to be far more comfortable (since my hands didn't need to be in close proximity of eachother) and let's not even mention shooting arrows!!!

The only thing I didn't like about using the new wii controller was not having the same camera control as I did on the Wind Waker, but other than that, I just don't see how playing Zelda the old way could be better.

---

Take Resident Evil 4, I honestly can't imagine how anyone could have the same level of accuracy with regular analog controllers than with the wiimote. The way I see it, for a shooter, the only way to get better accuracy than a wiimote is by using a mouse and keyboard.

i guess its just a matter of opinion and preference. like i said, i love the Wii for Wii Play and Wii Sports, and will probably look into other games of the sort. but for more traditional games i'm not sure. it could be that i'm just used to Zelda and Mario utilizing classic controls, and i'm not keen on the change...i dunno. i think its because with traditional games i'm used to sitting down and playing. standing and moving your arms and body can be jarring for something like Zelda or Mario, but for Wii Bowl, Tennis, Pool, Boxing, Golf etc it isn't jarring because your body is already programmed to have to move to do those sports, especially if you do them regularily like i do. if Wii 2 utilizes a similar interface as the Wii, thats fine, just as long as Sony and Microsoft doesn't try to mimic Wii's success and forget about traditionalist by scrambling to incorporate motion controls into their future systems at the expense of standard controls. not slagging Nintendo or anything, just stating my opinion.

Have you even played a Wii game? Seriously have you? Only Wii play and Wii sports force you to get off the couch out of all th games you mentioned. I think you dont really own one at all. Why else would you assume you have to stand up for every game on Wii?

"standing and moving your arms and body can be jarring for something like Zelda or Mario"

Really? you actually stood up to play those two games? I have never slouched as much as I did when I played Zelda. I was brilliant! I had my left hand (nunchuck) resting on the couch's arm, and I would rest my head on my left hand, and my right hand would be on my hip barely ever pointing at the screen, unless I had to shoot arrows and/or use the boomerang, so please forgive me for saying this but is it not possible that you are not using the controllers properly?

I find that when using the classic controllers, I have to have my two hands in close proximity which feels much more limiting to me than the much more comfortable/independent feel I get from wii controls. But that is just me...

Now don't get me wrong, I really like the Wii... but did they compare it to other consoles before they made that statement.

1.
The Wii is cheap to develop for

ok, i heard it was too.

2 .
The Wii is getting gamers off the couch

no... not really. some games do but most of them don't

3.
The Wii has killer apps in spades, with more on the way

the wii does seem like it is getting a lot of good games lately

4.
The Wii is a powerful console with an entry level price

maybe not powerful, but the price is right. an x-box 360 costs about $300ish i think and the wii is $250.

5.
The Wii is getting non-gamers into gaming

yep, a big demograph of people are playing it from parents to grand parents

6. The Wii is leading the industry.
the motion control seems to have one a lot of people over, and it kind of sucks that x-box 360 and ps3 are/(going to) "copying" them.

The Wii has provided a brilliant and wonderful future for shovelware that Sony or Microsoft would reject at a glance. I don't think it's going to dictate the future of gaming because it caters to a very different audience from the two more graphically powerful consoles, and the two audiences provide two very different types of revenue.

Nintendo learned it from Sony.. How clueless can you really be? PS1, tons of shovel ware. PS2 tons of shovel ware, only the PS3 escaped shovel ware because everyone went to the Wii with their games. I think you are honestly just pissed off you cant play Hannah Montana. I see no other reason to cry about the shovel ware on Wii when it didnt bother you on PS2.. Of course you probably loved all the preschool games, Power Rangers, Blues Clues, My little Pony on PS2 right?
