i meant it as a joke about the fanboi. I have a wii myself. But i don't exactly think I will be playing this FPS on the wii anytime soon. It just doesn't look good. Corruption looks better even...

Mine 2. How does the tech demo look better than actual gameplay??? And why do people time after time get fooled by stupid perception tricks. I noticed they use the exact same texture strategy as most FPS on the 360 and PS3 console. People, stop looking at the gun and hand textures that represent the character. That will always be higher poly and sharper than the surrounding environment. So many of you gamers are fooled by how good the gun and hands look that you completely miss the simplistic cars, pillars, building walls and roads. The gun and reloading animation isn't what you are looking at 90% of the game. You're actually looking at the environment and enemies. Here is how game designers prioritize quality of textures. Main characters are always high polygon, enemies are always 2nd, and environmental objects last. Look at how weapon hits on enemies are simplistic paintball "puffs". Water is just a simple repeating texture. Explosions are just expanding orange spheres. Bullets fired on walls show a brown cloud "puff" exactly like blood "puff" and then leave oversized that seem to pop-in a millisecond later. Alot of the effects are simulated and not actual physics.

Amazing. Please buy this game to support the Wii's third party efforts. We desperately need more games like this.

5.1 - I agree
This game looks good. But the ps3 and 360 can pull off this look easily.

Honestly though, I hope people buy this game. It's really disheartening for developers when their GOOD games get outsold by stuff like mario and sonic at the olympics.

I'm talking about games like zack and wiki, okami, and no more heroes. Games that are GREAT, but sold like crap.

They'll buy this game if it is advertised like MArio and Sony at the olympics(3rd party game) was or SMG. NMH was in no way a failure and outsold all previous Suda 51 titles. Okami is a two year old port of a PS2 game with little to no advertising. Zack and Wiki is a hard sale when they give interviews saying its for 5 year olds but most reviews admit its not for 5 year olds when it comes to game play. Proof that 3rd party games will sale on Wii can be found by simply looking at the million sellers on Wii. Each of the 3rd party games that hit that mark also had TV advertising. Only exception I can think of is RE4. didnt see any ads for it.

8 - Hmmm...
It makes me wonder though. If they can actually make the game look this good in a solid playable version with online capabilities, why hasn't Nintendo snapped this up themselves to publish it as a second party? Do they really not want this, or this type of audience? Any true gamer who's an FPS fan will want to play this if it pans out the way it seems like it will. Regardless of whether they play HD games or not. Graphics like this with controls the likes of MoH: Heroes 2 or MP3: Corruption? That's a small slice of heaven. Plain and simple.

Because publishers don't just go around snapping up games that look "good". The developer usually has to go to the publisher to get a deal unless their game looks so promising that a publisher goes to the developer. Also, it seems that Nintendo is going for more of a casual audience, not a hardcore one, which is actually rather unfortunate. Nintendo games were once known for being popular among hardcore gamers.

8.2 - Well yeah...
The undertone of my post was that it may just be that this game isn't as good as we'd like to believe. Of course, I'm hoping for the best. Wii gamers are pretty starved for quality non-casual stuff like this from third party Developers.

8.4 - They may not want nintendo as the publisher.
If you are a developer you will have to negociate the terms of the deal. Nintendo is too strong and could really cut into your profits. The guys are very high profile and you may be asked to change some thing in order to cater to a lot more people because nintendo does not throw money out the door and they guard the games they release like a super hero or some thing. While every one else is cool with putting out shovel ware they are not. To get ubisoft or sega or some one to publish it would be much better for them. Epic does a similar then this is why Cliffy b now rides around in a new exotic car. To put it simply you get paid way more.

9 - PS2 Area 51 meets Timesplitters
Looks good, even for the Wii. Will it look good on a SD display? Yes. Will it look good on a HD display? No. Check the picture and you'll see that up close in full view, it still looks like a Wii game.

Does it look fun though? I got a sort of (PS2)Area 51 feel about the story and a Timesplitters feel about the gun play. Looks solid all in all. I would pick this up if I owned a Wii.

LOL you're actually judging a game based on compressed video has proof it is inferior. I seriously doubt the video is HD so expanding it to HD and expecting it to hold up is just lame and pointless. I can pull up youtube videos that makes Gears of War look horrible. Doesnt mean it really looks bad though.

9.2 - Yes and No
Seeing as how all Wii games including this one run at or around 480p. I'm quite positive this too will look horrible on an HD set, but keep in mind, this is coming from someone who regularly plays COD4 in 1080p at 120hz on the PC. Yes it looks amazing if you wanted to know.

They promised PS3 / 360 qualti graphics but this isn't even best by Wii standards. Mario Galaxy and Metroid were much better IMO.

Mario is indeed colorful but there are a lot of advance effects and lots of models and objects on screen with pretty great detail.

Also, even in this vid, you can easily see how mediocre lighting is (Compared to Mario) and special effects don't looks near as good as Metroid Prime 3.
I agree on the small size though but then again, Wii is 480p so there will be no HD trailer for it. A bigger / 480p is certainly welcome but I saw high res screenshots on some site and they looked pretty mediocre.
The only promising part is near the end when the creature is seen climbing through a hole inside the building but then, it's still far from best looking Wii game.

actually if you look close in Mario galaxy, everything further away looses detail, causing the CPU/GPU to have more Power to calculate stuff.( all hail BLUR effect!)

in this vid you see lots of stuff going on at the same time.
Also the Gravity in mario galaxy isnt really that complex for the CPU...there was an article showing how it worked and there was even a demo made with custom code doing the same thing but i cant find it.

dont forget this game uses lots of graphical rendering techs( bump mapping, emboss mapping, normal mapping etc etc) at the same time.

But wasnt the engine from HV still in Alpha?

edit: i think its because of nintendo's art direction. They always pay attention to little details and stuff( im not talking about Textures XD ).

but i understand the dissapointment. in the last 2 years i started to game less...its actually depressing. I hope i actually get somewhere with programming....making your own is more FUN then actually play games XD

I see. I still think Nintendo is the only one that can make the best looking Wii games and Mario Galaxy and MP3 are still my choices but as you said, this and previous shots may indeed be pre-alpha or something. As for far objects, all games lower their detail and quality. PS3, 360, Wii and PC all use LOD or something.

The thing is that recently all vids from all console exclusives have disappointed me graphically. Killzone 2 didn't wow me like the E3 and GDC demos, Resistance 2 looking pretty ugly to me (Yes, even the direct feed shots from yesterday). Gears of War 2 looked exactly like the original and the bigger enviroments and more creatures were obviously for the on-rails level and felt kinda scripted. MotorStorm 2 was decent but still not what I wanted.

Maybe I'm too harsh but none of games from recent Gamers Day events have lived up to me expectations.

EDIT: Since I can not edit my original now, I posted this :)

Good point about Nintendo's art. In the end, I have to disagree (as usualy :D ) and say Mario Galaxy still looks a whole lot better even technically and not just from an artistic point.

Still, I definitly agree with you on games in general and current state of titles. Bubbles for you my friend :)
