Tretton: PS3 "Packed a One-Two Punch" in April

Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO Jack Tretton says that the PS3 remains on course for a "breakthrough year" after Grand Theft Auto IV and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue drove April PS3 software sales past the two million mark.

At the end of the day. The website chooses what to quote, what to comment on, and can falsify the context. I am not saying that this happens in all cases, but I would caution anyone who read excerpts and make assumptions without reading the full transcript of interview.

I would like to see transcripts of interviews, but thats asking too much!

Either ways, the tone of this article is different to the microsoft ones prior to it isn't it?

Say anything bad about the competition they go against. He lets the numbers sale wise speak for itself and soon the big hitters will be helping them quote what the rock says, "Turn them son of bit**es side ways, shine it up real nice, and shove it up the competitions candy a$$e$".

No mud slinging. That is the same attitude that MS should shoulder. Somebody needs to send MS a memo and state that being arrogant is not a good thing when you are losing market share daily. Come the day when they are in third place, many people will be there with a healthy helping of crow for the MS reps to munch on.

9 - You guys aren't lookin' at the big picture
Sony were the c0cky mudslinging ones and worst at it when the ps2 and ps1 totally dominated, the Playstation brand alone was strong enough to even sell packaged dog poo in the millions, so they thought they had the Playstation 3 in the bag, I mean look at the dreamcast, same way last gen, they came earlier and had a decent lineup like the 360, ps2 sweeped in with a mediocre launch and yet decimated the dreamcast, meanwhile the 360 which had an even worse launch coupled with RrOD still stood strong for what 2 years against the Playstation brand which is still pushing units like crazy,

The truth is ever since ps3 got third place, they came out of their c0cky state and were humbled and started to focus on what's important, Microsoft, the underdog from last gen in second place have now experienced a new feeling of beating Sony at their game for once, why wouldn't they get c0cky and try to downplay them? I mean it's Microsoft we're talking about here,

Just take this list of c0cky Sony quotes before and during the ps3's launch, well they aren't as bad as Microsoft's but they still send off a c0cky vibe and downplay their competitors especially the wii:

9.1 - unfortunately, ppl are not as open minded
I'm going to get a load of disagrees for speaking the honest truth since this site turned Sony biased and Anti Microsoft just like any pro Sony comment back in the day when the ps3 was on fire, launch/early 2007

You have to admit, Microsoft played their cards right this gen, with RrOD, they should've crashed and burned straight to the bottom, no questions asked, so you ask yourself, isn't the ps3 surpassing the 360 long overdue? first off, it's a sony machine carrying millions of fans and loyalties, it holds some of the biggest franchises in gaming history besides Nintendo, It is a great movie player and gaming machine with a handful of decent quality exclusive titles, the wii doesn't provide the next gen experience, the 360 is a faulty machine, so the only other viable option is the ps3, and now we have $400 ps3s which are just about the price of elites and slightly more expensive than premiums, note best selling 360s are elites and premiums, and they haven't even dropped the 360 price in North America for ages now, if they play that card and RrOD is phased out by newer cheaper models, they could do some serious damage in NA, Seriously Microsoft was able to break the Playstation brand loyalty barrier and capture a few playstation fans, they've made their mark which means Sony is going to have to buckle up in the next generations,

It's funny how I can make up any bologna or bullcrap like "ZOMG Cell>3 Quad Cores" but as long as it says something positive about Sony, I'll get lots of agrees, but if anything negative about Sony or critiquing a ps3 exclusive, the disagrees just come raining in,

it's hard to be honest on here nowadays. if you say anything remotely anti-sony, they're all over you like a rash, and your bubbles disappear quicker than lightning.

the truth is, sony have been humbled seriously this gen! after two runaway success's, the ps3 is trudging along slowly, even the ps2 sells more! they've been smashed at home by nintendo, and have been double penetrated in NA. only europe, which get's everything last, has given sony something to smile about. perhaps they will look after us more in the future.

although i dont think the kock-sure attitude of microsoft is good, it's a change from seeing sonys smugness! not that they have too much to be smug about nowadays.

And guess what sony were right, ppl did rush out to buy ps3 on brand name alone, why? Because they know with a sony console, you are going to get a diverse range of games, a massive libary, exclusives.

You guys give Sony too much credit, it's not like they are any better than Microsoft either, they are both evil money hungry corporate empires, if you think for a second Sony is some savior who genuinely care about their customers laying profits aside, you are kidding yourself, just because they have a trend of quality products that are popular doesn't mean anything, they have their fair share of negatives or anti consumer things like the rootkit

Believe or not, it is c0cky to downplay your competition like that, and that is why the ps3 isn't at the top now, they underestimated their opponents, they thought and predicted the wii to become a failed gimmick and look what happened, they thought RROD would kill the 360 and what happened? And now they have to work their way from the bottom up.
