MMO's: Past, Present, and hopefully Nintendo's future

WiiRincontrol writes:

"Starting with games like Everquest and reaching the pinnacle with World of Warcraft, the modern age of MMO's has won over tens of millions of gamers and is still going strong. People pay by the month or year in order to be able to play these games. They gladly buy expansion pack after expansion pack in order to gain new areas, equipment, quests, etc. Some gamers have become so enraptured by these games that they've temporarily messed up their lives simply because they couldn't stop playing."

3 - It wouldn't be that good
Think of all the chat restrictions they would have. Not to mention how dumbed down it would be for the masses aswell.

There probably would be very annoying chat limitations, but I doubt they'd dumb it down. Only the more serious gamers would pay a monthly fee to play a game you know? Sadly, this is probably one of the main reasons why we might not ever see this game happen.

3.2 - I am not sure
But doesn't toon town have a monthly fee? That has chat restrictions and I can only assume very simple gameplay. I guess you're right about not dumbing down gameplay. To be honest I can't think of what would need dumbed down now that I think about it, the game would be pretty straight forward.

4.1 - Hey...
We can always hope.
Even if it was the same as the handheld versions but with better graphics and multiplayer interaction I'd at least be interested. And again, that's probably part of the problem. We Nintendo fans often put up with bare bones fulfillments.

The thing is we gamers also have great ideas but to think the developers will think of it in their design is small.

>_< would be so awesome if gamers could actually discuss what they want.

6 - Pokemon MMO would be awesome.
And even if it didn't work it would still sell millions of copies so its a win-win situation for the Big N.

7 - Pokemon MMo would be good
But only if Nintendo really let their online restrictions go, which is not likely in the foreseeable future. If the animal Crossing MMO is good, maybe they'll consider doing a Pokemon one. It's way to big of a license to just have Stadium games on home consoles.

7.1 - Hmm...
I don't think I'd need voice chat for this game, though it would be nice. Besides, since kids play the game too, it might be best if there were a set group of phrases to use for communication. Or at the least, anmail system that could be linked to E-mail so that Parents could have their kids messages sent to their e-mail boxes too. If parents let their kids play online and won't at least do that, then their kids are probably into anything and everything anyway...

I think It'd be great and would most likely pay....And I hate MMOs...
If I where to pay however I'd want Full voice chat and no unfriendly codes.
Maybe Animal Crossing MMO is something to test the water with on Nintendos part?

10.1 - Like the article said...
In the end, such things are the responsibility of the players. We can't let a few with lazy or addictive personalities ruin the fun for everyone else. Right?

MMO's (in general) are time sucking, horridly produced games...

I wish that at least one designer would buck the trend. World Of Warcraft is a start, but the amount of money required to play per month is ludicrous.

And people complain about $50 a year for Xbox Live. What a joke.

I'd pay $50-$60 a year plus the software for this game. Anything more than that though and I'd be disappointed.
