You do realize that my computer, which runs dual 8800GTX in SLI will spank your SP3 any day right? and just a simple matter of upgrading my quad core processor to guess what? THE NEXT GENERATION quad core, will effectively bring my computer to the NEXT GEN... (since that is what you fanboys are using nowadays)

My point is that if you are people are going to call the wii, last-gen, or underpowered, or whatever label you think sounds good, you should not lose track of the fact that in graphics power and processing power the consoles will always be a step behind PCs. In the case of GPU power, the 360 and PS3 are only running at the nVidia 7000 series cards which are in fact TWO GENERATIONS behind the current standard the 9000 series cards. Is that clear enough?

And no, I am not embarrassing myself. I am perhaps being silly for trying to reason with silly people, but that is an entirely different matter.

If you want to talk architecture and why PCs will always be ahead, sure we'll discuss, but don't bring the "wii is last gen" comments, or "it isn't true next-gen" because, guess what: NO CONSOLE WILL EVER BE. PCs will always be ahead.

Each individual part of a PC has its own generation. But they are all separate. Your next-generation Quad-core will only bring your processor to the next generation, presumably the newest accessible one. But your RAM is on its own generation cycle that has nothing to do with your processor, and the same goes with your Hard Drive and so on.

On consoles all of these parts are designed together with a system released every 5 years or so, what we call a generation. New PCs are released almost every day with different configurations of parts. That's as far away from the definition of generation you can get.

take 5 people with ps3s/360s

5 with wiis

and 5 with PCs

All 5 on PS3/360 are having a next gen blast
All 5 with the wii are still having a blast but not a "complete" next gen blast(graphics wise but still amazing gameplay)

3 out of the 5 PC owner will have crappy computers and are unable to run a game on par with any next gen system (i don't know anyone in real life who has a decent gaming computer, they all but dream)

So you pay 2000+ dollars for a quadcore with Nvidia 8800 GTX and you get slightly better graphics and pretty much no games that support these graphics(cept a few).

I would choose console over pc gaming anyday
atleast i wouldn't need to keep spending my money
i chose a ps3 because it had the quality games i enjoy and regardless of what console you chose, you chose because u like it and thus will have fun.

That is a very interesting comment, but wrong. More processing power doesn't always mean "better" AI, or physics. What it does mean is the potential for more of it. You see what I am getting at? Yes the PS3 and the 360 have more power than the wii, and yes the do have the potential for applying complex AI and physics over larger scales, but that doesn't mean better physics or A.I.

I mean take the time to think about it. If the games on the PS3/360/PC apply the same level of A.I. to more characters, or to more actions, then they may appear to be smarter, even when the exact same algorithm is being applied (After all, A.I. is nothing more than a predefined set of rules, heuristics and relationships). Same goes for physics. If you have the same rules of physics applied to more objects in a given environment, it might give you the impression that the physics are better, when in fact they are identical, the only difference being that they are applied to MORE object in the environment. Also, keep in mind that the wii isn't burdened by having to produce the same polygon count while executing this other stuff.

I swear, it won't be long before someone comes up and makes the very "smart and well informed" claim that it has something to do with "Blu-Ray."

No one would argue that consoles have more processing power than PCs. A PC could be anything. You could build a PC now that would be capable than the PS4, except for the Blu-ray reading of course.

But there's a reason physics engines are a new issue in gaming. They didn't have the processing power to even exist properly until a few years ago. That's why GTA III and Half-Life 1 didn't have physics, they couldn't have been processed by PS2 level technology. And the Wii is only marginally more powerful. It's not a question of more. Although physics will become better in the future. Whether they can exist at all is the issue with the Wii.

A.I. also becomes an issue when you're having to process it for multiple objects. You can't tell me gameplay doesn't change when you're fighting 5 guys instead of 50.
