I too think the next version of the PSP and DS will come out in 2010. But I do not think the next version of the Xbox will come out then I think maybe 2011.

i haven't had enough of this generation! what is going on here! this is bull sh!t, let alone a bad idea. i hope the ps4 dosent come out untill like 6 years from now, im putting way too much money in this sh!t for it to just sh!t on me like this. and for me to start saving up for and even more expensive sony console than the previous 1, its ludacris! (and no im not takeing this very well)

all the developers were on the ps2 and the install base was too high to even focus on the xbox.

I disagree. The PS3 hasn't even been out for 2 full years yet. Sony isn't going to come out with another Playstation console until 2011 or 2012 at least. Sony has released a new console every 6 years so far. Sony isn't going to release a PS4 in 2 and a half years from now, that's crazy.

Microsoft will release it's new console first most likely because it's the oldest, and Sony and Nintendo most likely will release their new consoles a year later. Microsoft really screwed up the console cycle with the Xbox 360 coming out in 2005 and the short lived Original Xbox.

To keep up with the PS3, Microsoft needs to release another Xbox console.

I don't know why in the heck Microsoft chose to build a console that was only meant to be out in the market for 4-5 years. I mean seriously, the Original Xbox was only out on the market for 4 years and here comes Microsoft releasing another console possibly in 2 years, and the sad thing about it is that Microsoft didn't even support the Original Xbox after the 360 came out, and I bet money that Microsoft will do the same thing with the 360 when the 720 or whatever it's going to be called comes out.

Microsoft doesn't care about it's gamers, they just want people to buy the newest and latest Xbox console when it's released. I hope that people start to wake up and realize that Sony is the console manufacturer that is going to be there for you for the long haul. Sony is all about the 10 year lifecycles and that's the way it should be done. And the good thing about Sony is that they actually support there consoles after new ones are released.

meh id like to see a new system in 2010 for the xbox had it since day 1 and I like an update every 4-5 years....dont like to stay on the same machine for over half a decade.....

It would probably be the best idea for MS as well since it may be harder for Sony to bounce back with another machine and give MS even more time to establish a fan base again....possibly 2+ years this time around.....

So yea it is most likely gonna happen and all MS needs to do is keep support for their 360 and keep backwards compatibility and everything should be fine

Screws over game developers as much as it does consumers. They spend ridiculous amounts of money upgrading their technology and developing new game engines etc for the new platforms. If they don't have enough time to make games before they have to update everything again they won't be able to cover their costs and make money.

It's especially hard for the small developers and if they start to release new consoles every 2 - 3 years the only ones that will be able to keep up will be the big developers like EA

sony gonna last for 10 years just like all the others. get this, i still got the ps1, and i got it the day it came out, and i still have the toysRus demo disc it came with. tombraider, gt1, spyro1, GEX, blasto etc. all still working fine

Im ready for a new console in 2010, i have had my 360 since launch and 5 years is enough, one comment i would like to make, people keep on mentioning the fact that sony supported the ps2 where is microsoft dropped the xbox, i think the fact that sony borrowed 90 billion dollars for investement of the blu ray technology has a lot to do with this, and the fact that they are not breaking even on the sales of the ps3 might also be a factor, they didnt sack good old Ken for nothing

Unless Sony dumps it due to lack of sales or inability to over take the 360 by the time Microsoft launches it's next console. Which according to Microsoft is 2010. I don't think your going to see either console manufacturer jump on the next gen until there is a compelling reason to do so. Namely GPU/CPU on same chip or one of those taking over the job of the other. This is the next major step in platform cost reduction. Both AMD,Intel, and Nvidia are rushing torwards this in the hopes of saving the PC as a gaming platform. Nintendo is going to stick with the Wii as long as possible. The problem they have is that most likely the casual gamer is not going to buy another console just because if they are still happy with the wii. I think Nintendo is going to have to rejoin the console war. I also predict that we will see another player enter the console race.

If AMD, Intel, Nvidia cannot save PC gaming then they will have little choice but to join the console war to stay relevant. Yes I know AMD and Intel will always be making processors but it was PC gaming that always drove the demand for increases in speed. You can have a 5 year old computer running non gaming applications no problem.

I also think that what the U.S. economy is doing by then is a factor. If the U.S. slides into a depression that some are predicting then the current crop of console may weather the storm a little longer so that the launch of the next systems is at a more reasonable price.

The only people worried about next gen consoles coming out in 2010/11 are ps3 owners. They paid huge amount on a wasteful piece of technology which hasnt even given anything worthwhile yet. WHereas people like me who picked up 360s on launch or early 2006 have already used it and enjoyed next gen gaming for past 2+ years. Another 2 more years shud be good enough and then time to jump to the next best thing.

I was pc enthusiast once, and used to upgrade vgas almost every year. Switching between nvidia and ATIs. Last 2 were both nvidia 6800 GT and 7950GX2. Got burned on the last one and luckily bought 360 at almost the same price as a high end vga. Hvnt upgraded my pc in last 2 years. I'm a reformed gamer now. Thanks

Doubt it.
Developers still can't afford to master games in 1080P multi platform wise their not ready to make the next step yet.
In 2016 that's when the next gen console race after this one begins.
MS can afford to make the Xbox 720 in a hurry because it will make their costumers and fans mad and they don't have the technology yet to make the next step.
Sony however does bigger blu-ray discs coming, OLED TVs the next step in HD Entertainment, bigger everything.
Sony is in a better position technologically to make the next step but right now they want a 10 year console however it doesn't mean that console makers and developers can't dream though.
360 is losing enough money.
PS3 is still growing.
Wii needs better games to compete this gen.
Everyone needs to improve.

PS3 is the only true next-gen system the Wii and 360 shouldn't even be considered next-gen consoles. First off the Wii and 360 still use an old format called DVD which only holds 4.7 gbs of data or 9gb on dual layer disc, the PS3 uses Blu-ray which holds 25gb of data or 50gb on dual layer disc. The Wii has no hdmi port which is necessary for the future while the 360 has an hdmi port 1.2 and the PS3 has an hdmi port that supports 1.3a. The differences first off 1.2 supports 16.7 million colors while 1.3a supports over 1 billion colors. 1.2 cant use Dolby True HD or DTS HD Master Audio and it cant support 7.1 surround sound, while on the other hand hdmi 1.3a supports all that plus more. hdmi 1.2 can only support 1920x1080p60fps maxed out while 1.3a supports 2560x1600p60fps maxed out. An added bonus about 1.3a also supports x.y.Color and Deep Color which 1.2 dosent. 1.3a also has a way higher transfer rate and bit rate compared to 1.2. Also the 360 has 3 core processors which is old news considering Intel makes Quad Core Processors while the PS3 has the revoluntionary Cell processor which has 8 and the Wii has a weak processor we dont even nedd to talk about.You cant even upgrade the 360 HD unless u pay for an overpriced 120 piece of crap HD on th PS3 u can upgrade your HD limitleesly. The 360 or the Wii doesnt even have an HD movie playback drive the PS3 does. The PS3 is built stronger than both the Wii and 360 it can handle more heat and cold and still not break down. Also the PS3 firmware constantly upgrades the system and by far has the most multimedia compatibilities compared to the Wii and 360. The RSX GPU can handle DirectX 10 level details and graphics the 360 GPU can't. The PS3 is truly the only system worthy of being called next gen and is the most future proof console that ever existed.

The 360 and the DS both came out in '04, so 6 years later I think they'll be ready, especially since you consider they both came out just 3 years after the GBA/Xbox. The PSP came out in early '05, so they'll probably be ready, too. However, the Wii and the PS3 came out in late '06, so I don't think releasing their next-gen consoles in 2010, only 4 years later, is a very wise choice.
