Kid Icarus on Wii indirectly revealed by IGN

Joystiq writes:'When fans debate which of their plentiful wells Nintendo will be returning to for their next big title, Kid Icarus is always a popular suspicion. Now, IGN's Matt Casamassina has basically confirmed that it's on the way to Wii. On episode 7 of the IGN Nintendo Voice Chat podcast Casamassina says, "Of course [Nintendo is] going to have some E3 surprises. You know, Kid Icarus, for crying out loud, how many times do we have to say Kid Icarus? Kid Icarus is coming for crying out loud." '

I'll believe it when Nintendo says it. Hopefully they make it hard though because the nes game was dang near impossible

2 - WOW!
Kid Icarus is one of the most incredible games on the NES, and perhaps of all time. So many great memories from that game, and I had been crying for another iteration of that story and game. However, now that it may be coming back...well, I'm not totally sure that I want it to. I almost liked the idea of it being that one amazing game, which didn't need a sequel. In the age of so many sequels and remakes in movies, games, and everything...it starts to become refreshing to see something great only be made once. Kid Icarus is one of those awesome franchises that never became "exploited".

So, I have mixed feelings.

If true no matter how good the game is, certain individuals will still hate on it for

a) not being new IP
b) not having mature themes
c) not looking as good as it could have on the PS3 or 360

I wonder if it will attract younger gamers who have only heard of Icarus as a character in Super Smash Bros.

Now that I'm in my mid-30's I find the Nintendo library no longer appeals to me - I never even finished Zelda Twilight Princess on the 'Cube.

I think the same is true for many current gamers who cut their teeth on the Atari and NES - we prefer more mature content.

What I'm saying is that this will be essentially a new IP because it will be a completely new audience. I have full confidence that Nintendo will make a great game that will do well - it just won't be as easy of a sell as Metroid or Zelda.

by the way beign kid Icarus which was released so long ago with almost no defined plot or story telling and side scroller makes it almost a brand new ip game....

This is what nintendo needs, more old school characters coming back.Nintendo's back catalog is so vast in just the nes/snes days that you wonder why they dont pump out more original titles rather then their marios, zeldas, and metroids(the last being one of my favorites).

I can't wait for this game. I am sure that when this game makes it to the wii (if ever), it would be a great game.

My question is: how does Nintendo make a new story out of Kid Icarus without getting into something like Zelda? I mean like an action RPG adventure that takes you through missions and mini-quests etc that seem too much like Zelda?

One thing is for sure, if I have to fly, and shoot arrows in 3D the wiimote is the controller to have. It would have been too hard to do reasonably with analog sticks (Just look at shooting arrows in OoT while riding the horse!)... which would explain why it has taken this long for Nintendo to get their act together with KI.

I think this would be a great Holiday release...

Man imagine if they gave you the kid icarus from smash with classic game play and the beat up fest of a cursed kid icarus! I mean after fighting those egg plant wizard he has to be having nightmares! Oh yeah the nurses that healed you have to be drop dead sexy!

I don't even know if they realize how easy this game would be to make. Give us brawl match style graphics like final destination in 2d and make full on 3d for the inside or pure flying sequences.

If you remember kid icarus was a weird type of dungeon crawler , 2d vertical scroller and shooter at the end. Yes it was battling in the skies! not too many people got to even see that much of the game!

It will depend on who is developing this one though. The brawl guys would be prefect actually with factor 5 making a engine for them.
