Nintendo Announces Worldwide Mario Kart Wii Tournaments

Looks like Nintendo is trying to hype up Mario Kart by sponsoring some tournaments via the Mario Kart Channel. Interesting that the tournaments will have specific rules like having to use certain controls schemes...

Hopefully they don't require the use of the wheel. I really hate that control scheme.

Maybe they are trying to pad sales of wheels by promoting people to use them in tourneys?

I don't know man I was plesently suprised by the Wii Wheel. Much better than Excite Trunk that's for sure and the tracks seem well laid out for it too.

I wonder why they want to make controller specific schemes? I am guessing that people are fed up with the wheel already and Nintendo wants to get more people using them. Wavebird FTW!

The Wii remote and Nunchuk works best, IMO. I've tried every control scheme possible. Wavebird comes in second

Thats not true, If you played Mario kart you can see there are plenty of Golden Wheels showing next to a players name.
A golden Wheel tells you that the player is ONLY using the Wheel.

"I wonder why they want to make controller specific schemes?"

If there are separate tourneys for each control scheme it promotes getting the best out of each. I think it's a great idea. That way you might be the top player in that particular division. I'd imagine they'd also have a free-for-all.

He is from Mario Kart Arcade GP, co-developed by Nintendo and Namco and its the only Mario Kart game to ever feature guest apppearances by non-Nintendo characeters. You could use Pac Man, Blinky and Ms Pac Man.

He is not in the Wii version, unfortunately.

4 - The Wii Wheel
The Wheel control scheme is great imo. Just like when we first started using analog sticks we had to adjust, so it is with this control scheme. IMO anyone who believes that the motion control is unresponsive just hasn't taken the time to master the controls. Hold left too long on the analog stick you go off course. Hit it too early, you go off course. Don't compensate for the speed of various speed classes, you go off course. It's the same thing.

The only arguable negative is that there is less room for one specific error. And that is turning the wrong direction then having to immediately change direction to the right direction. More often than not, it doesn't respond in time. However, as a gamer, that only means that we must make fewer mistakes. The courses on this game use the control scheme flawlessly. Disaster only strikes when we screw it up with poor decisions or reaction time. :)
