Rock Band dev: "We're not trying to screw people".

Harmonix, developer of the rather excellent Rockband, has today told VideoGamer.com that it is "not trying to screw people" with the high price of the game.

Today publisher EA announced a May 23 European release for Rock Band on the Xbox 360. The game has been confirmed to have an "exclusive launch window on the Xbox 360", with the game available on additional platforms later this summer.

Harmonix, you are screwing us all over.

Ok, let's take into account the VAT, there's still no excuse to why EA and Harmonix couldn't include the game into the package like the US version.

It cost £70 for Guitar Hero 2 & 3 with the game, yet it costs £60 for just the Rock Band guitar without no game!!!! How do you explain that??

They could of included the game for Free with the instrumenal pack, hence the VAT won't affect it because they are not selling it!!!

Keep going with the excuses, we are not buying it!

So even with the big launch window the 360 won't be selling many copies.

I see the package selling more when te PS3 version comes out by then I hope the devs come to there senses

of course you do. of course you do. *rolls eyes*.

Everything costs more in EU. The fact taht its exclusive Xbox 360 launch doesnt mean anything.

but of COURSE you would try and paint it otherwise... because you're such an honest, neutral observer.

I wonder if the PS3 version will be any different. This type of game is popular in Europe especially on the Playstation consoles and I wonder is there a conspiracy going on against MS.

Harmonix need to seriously work on their PR skills. I mean seriously... 17% VAT okay... how does that justify 250% extra costs than the US edition? The "myriad of little differences?" Still, this game will be down in price in no time.. i'd say the average age of the gamers wanting this would be 18-25 (just taken that purely from my head) and the average 18-25 year old working class person can't afford to spend £180 on a game.

Still, I was eagerly awaiting this game but it looks like i'm milking gta4 for a lot longer.. nevermind, let's hope karma comes and bites EA and Harmonix up their fat filthy rich asses.

Total and utter rip off.

Whilst I'm sure the peripherals from the states will work on a UK machine, you must remember that the game itself is region locked and the US version will not play here. I'm sure that the grey importing is the reason that they chose to region lock this title, as most 360 titles are not region locked....

PS3 has no region locking, so importing a Ps3 version might be better, but godamit, I want a second guitar for my 360 :(

14 - They're not screwing us, they're helping us...
Harmonix and EA should know that with the price so high, they won't get that much money as the would get with the same price as in US. Now no one will actually pay 240€ and buy the special edition and the game separately.

Everyone will just import the instruments they need from the US and get the game from retailers. I already have GHII and GHIII -guitars and the drums on ebay are about $30. That makes about 20€. The transport about 10-20€.

Combined with the price of the game (70€ or 60€), it will make 90-110€ for me. For the English men it will be £70-£90...

So they are not screwing people, they are helping us to see better options. I thank them for that...

"We understand that people are going to feel a little bit aggrieved about it but we hope that the game will override that feeling."

What do they expect people to say? Oh well, I guess he's right, getting ripped off doesn't feel as bad because the game is fun! Yay!
