Smash Bros. Won't Play on Modded Wii
32
Nintendo has reported that some Nintendo Wii consoles will not read the dual-layer Super Smash Bros. Brawl due to the system having dust and dirt on the laser. What they have yet to announce though is that they are also fighting piracy with the release of the game on the Wii, as it will not play if a mod chip is installed.

Well since I have a modchip installed looks like I will keep my "Pirated" version and skip the retail release since it will not work in my system. Thanks Nintendo now it feels guilt free.

1.1 - Are Nintendo stupid??
I think they are as I bet there are some people out there with Modded Wii's that buy the must have titles at Retail, but now won't and will have to go for a pirate copy due to a crazy Nintendo piracy crackdown.
Surely Nintendo should be working on making a pirate copy not work on a modded Wii, not the original version that they are making cash on!!
Stupid Nintendo, throwing money down the drain!
As #1 mentioned, Modded Wii owners will stay with there copied SSBB, even though they may of wanted to buy the game from a store!!

How in the world can you say that you are "guilt free" when you "own" a game that you haven't actually paid for, or has been given to you as a gift?

Why not go to the local best buy and steal software as well? People gave their time and effort to make that game. They deserve to be compensated for their efforts every time that game is played.

Well, if someone already has a modded system and went and bought a legit SSBB and met this problem, they'll easily return it and now will download the game illegally. How smart of big N.
And those that already went for pirated copy, well... they are playing the game right now.

There will be a patch/fix....eventually. BUt yeah that seems like a stupid way to try and stop piracy. Forcing people with modchips to download the game instead of buying ssbb because they want it now.

Kinda stupid for Nintendo. It only forces the modded Wii owners to pirate the game. This is one of those games that even pirates will want to buy. Its worth every penny.

I had a suspicion that copy protection was responsible for the problems with SSBB and not "dirty lenses" or whatever the bull excuse Nintendo trotted out.

15 - Buy It Regardless
Though I will probably be in a small minority on this partiuclar site, I believe that there is nothing wrong with what Nintendo has done. There is absolutely nothing preventing these people with modded Wiis from purchasing the game. If they have an illegal copy of it, and chose not to buy the game for any reason whatsoever, then it remains illegal. If they purchase the game, even if they can't play the actual version, then at least they have done the right thing. Not that these people are overly concerned with "the right thing", but still, they shouldn't have these illegal copies in the first place. Thus they get no sympathy from me.
