The momentum has finally turned in Sony's favor. They have restructured their entire company, reestablished a good outlook on the PS3 from the mass media, and furnished an impressive Playstation lineup for 2008 (and 2009 I suppose). Not bad considering it has been playing catch up to rival consoles as a victim of circumstances since day one.

Here is one of the reasons why Wii owners will buy PS3: Solid Snake is in Super Smash Brawl, so Wii owners who play this game will be curious about who this character is and will want to play MGS4 and that's only on the PS3 for the time being. The highly theorized MGS4 port will not come out in 2008.

Also, I doubt parents are going to get a PS3 to their children that easily as they get Wii. Snake can do only so much, and I strongly doubt it'd make "casuals" to jump into PS3 bandwagon.

You have to consider how long the recession will last, and how many of the people that it will affect are also those who would potentially buy a ps3. sooner or later, those marginal consumers will buy their ps3. consider the possible price cut too.

Good question, those groups u mentioned most likely won't give a damn.
But kids in their family will, and they'll use Blu-ray and Littlebigplanet to convince them to do so. (And ofcourse all they wanna play r Resistence2 and GOW3)

Thats also how I convinced my dad to share half of PS2's price in 2000 (with DVD and racing games!).
Kids can even show vids of LBP, PS3 eye, and say it's a next-gen Wii or watever instead of me just talked and talked in 2000.

i have a wii, and i'm definitely getting a ps3, if not this year then next year. the only thing keeping me from selling my wii is smash (a game that i think will add a huge amount of value to the system), and a new zelda game, or any other random exclusive gems that could come out for the system.

but the ps3 killer titles, integration with psp, and backwards compatibility are what's catching me.

in either case...this analyst is targeting a part of the Wii owner club that is pretty much impossible to predict...If he is talking about the fad'ish Wii crowd that is purchasing it because Oprah played with it...I doubt they would have interest in any other platform except for the DS...if he is talking about the gaming crowd of Wii owners, that could go either way...some may buy a 360...some may buy a PS3...that all depends on what games they want to play, and if they have any interest in HD movies...

Grandparents keep buying the Wii...I doubt they would have any interest in a PS3 or 360...despite the 360 having 'more family oriented games' (not sure on that one dude...or what that even means...the PS3 will have by far the most variety, and that is what interests a family...as in several different people will be using the system regularly)

Actually the 360's top selling games are FPS and oriented towards the teen and young adult demographics.

If we are talking about a console that will cover every the Wii lacks, which are multimedia capabilities, HDD, etc, it has to be the PS3. It has something for everyone. In terms of mass market appeal, reliability, and brand name recognition, the PS3 goes much better with the Wii.

@1.2 - Nice blanket statement. The 360 will receive all the multiplatform games the PS3 will and then you have games like Gears 2, Ninja Gaiden 2, etc, etc.. I am not going to list them all out. The PS3 is "shooting it's wad this year" and yes they do have a nice line-up this year, just like the 360 in 07. That doesn't mean more great games aren't coming.

@1.3 - Thanks and yes I am a multi-console owner and I think the 360 is being written off way too easy now.

@1.4 - Total opposite of what I'm seeing. All the Wii owners I know besides a couple hardcores who own 360/Wii since launch are just fine with WiiSports and are not looking for a PS3. The casuals that Nintendo got with the Wii are a tough bunch to predict like Kleptic said.

@1.5 - The 360 offers everything multimedia wise that the PS3 does except Blu-ray and is a much more user friedly console. Reliabilty and market share are in Sony favor.

I am totally for real on the 360 is family friendly. That is an arguement that is getting old. Yes, they do cater heavily to the hardcore but they also have worked really hard on getting family games. One just needs to look at the list of Xbox Live arcade titles to see a ton of family games.

Yes, kids do like handhelds but they are playing the DS.

I'm going to generalize a bit here and say that the casual market is not as into HD and Blu-ray and HDTV's as you think. If you are going out and buying 2 game machines you are not in that casual market anymore. Most families I know with children that are right in the Wii target market don't need or want more than one game machine.

I hate to send you to xbox.com but just check this link out if you want to see the family side of the 360. Not to mention the community events like "Family Game Nights" that happen a couple times a month.

VHS tapes are still only being made to record live TV recordings which is still the easiest and most effective way to record. No major Hollywood movies are released in this format. DVDs are a different matter they only have the major advantage of being a cheap data recordable format only until Blank Blu-Ray discs are offered and yes it will happen and once it does happen DVDs will fade away but maybe not completely disappear but definitely be an artifact format since why buy a recordable disc format that only offers 8gb of storage when you can buy a Blu-Ray storage format that has 50+? VHS will still be the easiest way to record live tv though..but then again theres now DVR.

InYourMom...MS has made the mistake of trying to make a 'family oriented genre'...which does not, and will never, exist...

the focus of every playstation related product has always been on variety...variety in itself is what makes a particular console 'family oriented'...the little Billy wants to play some action game...Tina wants to play singstar...the dad plays something totally awesome, and mom can't figure out how to even turn the damn thing on, let alone play a game on it...

so yeah...you can't find any Playstation platform's family oriented stuff...the entire library has stuff to offer for each member of the family...which is exactly what makes it appealing to parents that have several kids...its not something Sony stole from anybody...Nintendo still manages to do that with younger kids...MS is trying to sell this downloadable arcade stuff, and because its not blood and guts everywhere...sell it as something for the family...but no family even knows about that stuff...they don't walk into Wal-Mart and see it on the shelf...they don't see it yet for the PS3 either, but with the amount of crap coming from basically every single genre concievable...that will change pretty quickly...

go to a place where people usually do their shopping like best buy. http://www.bestbuy.com/site... there are no VHS so I dont think it is that popular compared to DVD and how people are now moving to HD which would be Blu ray. I think some Wii players will move this year to a different kind of video game system but that can happen at any moment and any year. I believe they will move to mostly PS3 compared to 360 because of the games that are coming out for PS3. No one can deny the great lineup that PS has for this year compared to Wii and Xbox. Think about it, if you were gonna buy a new system THIS year (2008) wouldnt you consider what games you will be playing for the system? Of course there will be some that dont buy a new system a some that buy a 360 and some that buy a handheld but the PS3 just has the best offer this year to attrack more buyers then the rest.

its not whether or not it cant be done on the 360 r not its can it be done properly without compressions and missing features of the disc not a patch or an add-on. uncharted may look cartoonish but that was the approach taken by the devs in relation to the main character nathan, heck look at C0D4 and Unreal 3, Lair and Heavenly sword and even Killzone 2 and wardevil. and although i would agree with you on this the 360 hasn't yet reached its peak but we all know its slowly reaching it as we speak. not to mention if the 360 is to have more head room than man i can just imagine how much more does the ps3 must have that currently lazy dev's haven't bother reaching yet. and as far as blu ray goes all you got to learn how to realize is that every ps3 sold is one and no matter whether or or not say 10 people buy a ps3 for games over movies as a priority out of those 10 at least 4 are likely to give their blu ray player a spin and once they those individuals realize how great it is they will slowly migrate like the ants do over sweets and junk food, its only practical. now if you add those numbers and you simply multiply them by the hundreds of thousands of ps3 that get sold, than yeah even though the stand alone players aren't exactly selling like cakes one can simply put this logic in place and say well is still selling but how? that was toshiba not too long ago, but if you go back before the famous delayed spring 2006 launch they toshiba wanted to negotiate with sony and try and merge the two formats before releasing the ps3, now i wonder why hmmm. now that the format war is clearly over now i think we all have the answers. lol its funny because its like history is repeating itself, i mean i remember the dreamcast cost 200 and had all these games, and the ps2 launched a year later with a crappy pack of games and a 100 bucks more, and than out of nowhere the ps2 started selling like hot cakes, and than sega even claim that it was because of the DVD drive not the games, and that they were all about games, but than they themselves decided to go and release A DVD add-on oh i can still remember those days. but in the end you know what? sega was right because you see sony helped grow the DVD market when it was just in this current state blu ray is in, but the funny thing is that if you look closely both blu ray and even HD-DVD were/are selling at a faster rate than DVD did in its days, not to mention all we ever talk about is blu ray this blu ray that every where you look whether positive or negative it just seems like blu ray is poised to become the next standard no matter what. so basically by the time xmas comes around the ps3 will probably sit at 299 and in your living room who knows.

oh and i almost forgot to mention something here, now i know ever since blu ray won sony a format war not like its first or anything cough *CD* cough DVD yes sony was part of the all mighty dvd format as well they just sold their shares to toshiba a while back, and decided to move on to newer things. anyways not to get sidetracked or anything. every since sony won this format war all ive been hearing is things like oh well it doesn't matter cuz digital downloads this digital downloads that, blah blah blah and more blah i say to all that nonsense, the music market is one thing but the movie market is another lets just make that perfectly clear before i go on with what im gonna say next.

now i don't ever dought that downloads will eventually become the next thing or if not another venue for movie watching, but lets be perfectly honest with ourselves here you guys might sit there and argue all you want and start stating little pc facts that have of your elders wouldn't even understand. yes downloads are gonna become big but not anytime soon i can guarantee you all this. first things first. pc's catch viruses and can easily brake down depending how you use your computer but thats just you not your sisters or friends or grandpops, lets be serious here, if not pc's on demand is cool but most movie goers love to keep what they pay, for things like a quick watch n walk away you go to the movies or rent from netflix or blockbuster where even they will give you more than a single day ( but not the treaters though)to at least let a friend or a loved one barrow and watch over their houses.

and than theres the connection issues and load times, most people have to endure, heck don't mean to nip pick but i own a 360 and why i do love the whole idea of just downloading of the system and all that, i just don't feel... say... too comfortable downloading on the console since when comparing to a simple 20 minute devil may cry 4 5gb download man one can only hope to still be in the mood to even wanna watch the films once its fully downloaded, and not to mention all the movies ive seen where at 720p and even some further compressed from that point is a quite ridiculous to be honest with you. a tiny 20gb hard drive and one 120gb hard drive that if you were to get for you ps3 im pretty sure it ill cost you alot less. you don't really get to keep your films, risks of losing your films are high, and you cant share. three of the main components that makes the dvd market so desirable. just pop in a disc watch and enjoy, simple. and yes if you own a 360 like i do and of course a ps3 than an HDTV is something that you either have or are thinking about so just that alone opens a door for say blu ray to fit it the picture. simply digital downloads will have its time in years to come but not anytime soon. in the meantime the market will remain multi-platform like pc/DVD to Blu ray/console, in which that doesn't make blu ray a failure but rather the next best thing, the upgrade. love it or hate it thats what is going to be.

Now "xbots" are agreeing ps3 is going to win, they are buying ps3's, and sony fanboys are now saying they are trying to be objective and unbiased.
