The Games That Didn't Quite Make The NPD Top Ten List For December

- They didn't quite make the top 10 list for December on US NPD charts, but Mass Effect, Mario Party DS and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune also performed well during the holiday month.

Xbox 360 exclusive Mass Effect sold 401,000 during December, according to NPD numbers provided to virtual videogame stock market The simExchange.

Sony and Naughty Dog's critically-acclaimed action adventure game for PlayStation 3, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (also released November 20) sold 206,000 copies during the month.

Let's hope MGS4 boosts gamesales for the PS3. Everyone's hyping 2008 as the year of the PS3(in 2006 they hyped 2007 as the year of the PS3) so it will be interesting to see what this will mean. It's no use developing expensive, exclusive titles if no one is buying them. It's simple really. Developers and publishers need to get their investments back, and maximize their profits as much as possible.

These are numbers for December in U.S right so Uncharted didn't do that bad as far as December is concerned.

I don't have any sales figure but I think I'm right in assuming that Uncharted worldwide sales should be close to a mil, it not selling very fast but its not a failure.

you retards thinking that people only buy PS3s for BD, hello....smaller install base. Of course the games are going to sell less. (for now)

Remember the studies that said "PS3 owners don't buy BluRay's", back then every Xbot was like 'see! HD DVD is gonna win! No one cares about BD!"

Now that Sony is going to make it's move this year, now suddenly 'oh, PS3 owners only by BD. They aren't gonna sell games.'

what the lil tards fail to realize is that we PS3 owners purchase Blu-ray GAMES...I have been nothing but impressed by the rich sound, picture quality and immersive cinematic game experiences that Blu-ray makes possible now, and in the near future...bubbles up sir...lol

Although its understandable that smaller install base = smaller game sales the ps3 install base isnt that small and when compared to a xbox 360 install base of the same size you can see that the xbox 360 sells more games.

I bought my PS3 only to play games and NOT for Blu-ray movies. As far as why Uncharted (and others) there is only speculation.. We can only assume why certain games dont sell as well as others (install base, no advertising,etc) but just beacuse a game doesn't make the top ten list does it mean that it will necessarily flop.. Uncharted is close to a million worldwide and the Ratchet and Clank series never hit a million right off the bat.

8.1 - Yeah, Ratchet's at around 700K units sold right now.

The majority of the PS3's userbase only purchased their systems within the past 3~4 months, so it's wrong to assume that they'll automatically purchase games like Uncharted or Heavenly Sword right off the bat.

Great games sell many units throughout their shelf life; that's true of all systems. Motorstorm wasn't that big at retail when it was released (and also portrayed as a flop) but look at it now; over 2 million copies sold, not including bundled copies.
