Halo 3 Beats Out Wii Play For Best Selling Video Game of 2007

Today's NPD sales numbers reveal that Bungie's Halo 3 was the best selling game in the United States in 2007, with a whopping 4.82 million copies sold. Nipping at Master Chief's heels was Nintendo's own Wii Play. It sold through a staggering 4.12 million units to the masses.

CoD4 has sold 1.61 million copies on the PS3, about half what it sold on the Xbox 360. One out of every 5.7 PS3 owners bought the game; one out of every 5.1 Xbox 360 owners bought the game (a 12% higher attach rate).

The only conclusions you can draw from more sales on the 360 is that the 360 has a larger install base, particularly in the US which accounted for well over half of CoD4 sales.

There will certainly be a handful of games that sell far more than Halo 3 (15 million+ isn't unheard of), but given the number of Xbox 360s on the market it's extremely impressive. The PS2 only had six games that sold more copies despite having an install base 8x the size.

Halo 3: most promoted game EVER! (Before you disagree, think of this, preorders over a year in advance) Plus it's Halo, of course it's gonna sell.

Wii Play: Let's forget to mention it came with a controller.

COD4: Halo Killer, multiplayer-wise anyways. That is greatly exaggerated but hey, I know a lot of people that play COD4 and not even touch Halo.

Guitar Hero 3: Well, duh. This is the choice for non-gamers too macho for a wii. With PS2's still all over, this isn't a shocker. I wonder though, after a year from release, I bet GHIII will outsell Halo. Just the PS2 version too.

Super Mario Galaxy: The Super Mario 64 sequel people wanted, not community service Mario fighting Bowser in his love tub.

Pokemon Diamond: both of my siblings, three of my cousins, and myself own this game. The perfect gift for kids and veterans of the series. Unfortunately I never finished it. DQJ was better imo.

Madden: Well, it's Madden, and you know, the football game competition was tight as ever these days. Quick name another football game! Blitz 2001 doesn't count sorry.

Guitar Hero II: 95 percent of people who bought this game bought it to play Freebird. Only 1 percent of them can beat it on hard or higher.

Assassin's Creed: There is no such thing as bad publicity.

Mario Party: You want to know why this game sold so well? Knock a few back and play with some friends. You'll see. Just move all valuable items out of the room.

I saw Heavenly swords commercial air ALOT more than I saw Halo 3s 'Belive' Commercial.....Heck...HS commercial went until the end of november....

The game has been getting hyped well in advance. Plus, Heavenly Sword wasn't on Burger King's Fry cartons and Cups. Oh and there wasn't a Heavenly Sword soft drink either. I saw the commercial for Game Fuel more times then I saw commercials for the game.

While i dont personally like the Halo series (granted i only played the first two) i am glad it came out on top over this Wii effort. We all know Wii Play is in there due to the extra controller and i am just glad that something that sets out to be a "proper game" was the best seller.

The fact that Wii Sports won so many awards last year still grates on me. I aint a Wii hater (it has the best game of 07 in Mario) i just dont think these mini game efforts should be given as much credit as full games.

But I see No way for MGS4 to outsale H3s release date record.....
