Suda 51: Third party Wii games aren't selling

"Goichi Suda, otherwise known as Killer 7 and No More Heroes director Suda 51, claims that third-party titles for the Wii aren't selling in his home land and that only Nintendo is really profiting from its success.

Speaking about the sales of No More Heroes in Japan, he told us, "Whilst the sales weren't as high as I hoped, other titles for Wii aren't selling so well either. Only Nintendo titles are doing well. This isn't just because of the current situation in Japan, as this is happening outside Japan."

Predator, I believe most 3rd party devs the to be blamed because more than 99 percent of 3rd party games are worse than garbage and the worst games list of 2007 was filled with Wii titles. Of course, there are gems like Zack & Wiki, No More Heroes and even RE:UC but when most 3rd party devs don't take Wii seriously and make either terrible games for it or cheap ports, we know that they need to be punished and blamed not Wii buyers (Though they deserve punishment for making the uber crappy Carnival Games a best selling 3rd party game for Wii).

2 - Sad thing too see

There are 3rd party developers who do spend alot time and resource on their titles, but these games never seem to attract Nintendo's market. That's why we are seeing alot of developers (Midway and etc) just releasing a bunch of fugly looking titles and ports because they don't see the reasons for putting effort in the games because they titles will become overshadowed by Nintendo games.

Downside to marketing to casual gamers I guess is that casual gamers don't buy many games, and when they do buy games they're almost always the huge popular titles that are almost all from nintendo.

Well some 3rd party titles are selling. It's a shame his isn't but his games don't sell on any system sadly. Marketing is another factor I only see Nintendo games advertise so what do these 3rd parties expect people to just know their game is coming out on the Wii?

maybe that's Nintendo's plan anyway. Make all you can on the front end (which they've done), knowing that 1st party games will dominate, and ride the wave until it peters out and then introduce the next system with the windfall of cash made from the Wii.

Yea he is working with Konomi on that one. Hopefully we get some more info on that. Oddly enough though he said that he would like to make a No More Heros sequel too so even though it doesn't sell well he still wants to make more Wii games.

While sure seeing Suda51 games on PS3/360 would be cool his art style he uses really doesn't need any HD involved. Plus with his track record of cult classics that don't sell the cost of producing a game on PS3 or 360 could be too much

Yes, Nintendo published software accounts for 2/3 of all software sales (although this includes Wii Sports and Wii Play which inflates that number). It'd be nice to see stronger 3rd party titles, but be careful what conclusions you draw from this result.

1. It doesn't mean 3rd party titles can't sell well. In fact there are five 3rd party titles that have sold over one million copies on the Wii, compared with four for the PS3.

2. Even if Nintendo dominates software sales, you need look no further than the DS to see Nintendo is quite capable of supporting a system on its own. Every title in the top 10 was published by Nintendo (and the DS top 10 has sold nearly as many copies as the PS2 top 10). Poor 3rd party support does NOT mean the Wii will fail.

The consumer who isn't even aware of obscure gems like Zack & Wiki and No More Heroes? Or the stupid devs who don't advertise and mass produce shovelware.

I've currently got Z&W on pre-order but I wouldn't expect an average consumer to be able to see the difference between that and Ninjabread man.

18 - I want goddamn third party publishers to advertise.

Nobody knows about these games...No More Heroes should be advertised during wrestling and violent movies/tv shows...anything with action will do...but they still think that the hardcore still controls and that people will search for these games like we do.

idiot, many third party games sold more on ps3 and 360 than wii. even multiplats sell better on ps3 or 360 than wii. pes 2008 sold a mil on ps3 before 360, same as fifa 08. nfs: prostreet sold more on ps3 than wii although 360 and ps2 remain top sellers
