CVG: "I don't see the point in trying to do too much realism on the Wii," Red Steel 2's Creative Director, Jason Vandenberghe told CVG.
Speaking in a Facebook Fan Page-exclusive segment of our Red Steel 2 interview, the Ubisoft Paris man argued that there's no point trying to compete with games on more powerful consoles.
He said: "Why compete with the 360? The Conduit is a great example. Talk about an incredible piece of technology. Those guys did an amazing job of modernizing the Wii engine."
In the end, Vandenberghe told CVG, gamers look at 'realistic' Wii games and think they're not quite a good looking as a "baseline game on 360".
VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Is Ocarina of Time as legendary as I remembered it? For the most part, yes. In spite of a handful of missteps — a few obtuse puzzles, some tedious backtracking, and a clunky stealth sequence — I don't believe the last 23 years have been unkind to it. Ocarina remains a brilliant example of the medium, a landmark game that shaped the future of its own franchise and 3D gaming in general. After more than two decades it retains its inventive dungeon design, challenging puzzles, dynamic combat, wistful storyline, unforgettable music, and empowering open-air freedom. I feel confident calling it one of the greatest games of the fifth generation, even if I'm no longer prepared to list it among the five best games ever made."
Pure unadulterated fun. They don't make them like this anymore...especially not the triple A industry.
While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.
Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.
It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny
Armored Core VI?
Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.
Is something big coming soon to branch the story?
No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).
Nintendo has announced the SNES and Super Famicom games gracing the Nintendo Switch Online library this month, and there are some gems to enjoy.
Strange headline, as I thought the star of the show was Super RType. I almost bought RType Dimensions EX this last month and was just thinking, man I wish we had the SNES one somewhere on Switch. That's where I got my start w the series and I was beyond excited to see it drop this week!
while stylized games look nice,
last gen consoles were able to pull of a realistic look, Im sure the Wii can.
Looks pretty nice to me..but maybe people wouldn't consider that 'realistic?'
But forgive me for a second while I have to ask why "realism" is needed for VIDEOGAMES?
I actually often game to escape reality. Golden era NES/SNES/Genesis of games never relied on realistic graphics to sell a game. Games relied on content. I miss the days where some things were left to the imagination. I guess I'm old school.
But has anyone noticed that an Alice in Wonderland fantasy 2-d platformer has sold more than any "realistic" game this gen? I'm talking about NSMB. Compare those sales to an UC2 or MGS4 or GTA or RE. Any game that strives for realism is missing the point of a 'game' imo.
Not saying graphics don't play an important part in the creation of a game. Just that it is important not to let them become the main focal point of one.
Sounds like a cop-out to me. Instead they churn out some horrible looking cel-shaded game that is the bastard child of every game that has ever gone before it. Yeah, great idea.
Resident Evil 4 Was 'realistic' and that was a GameCube game.
A software company/publisher that bites the hand that feeds them are morons. Just makes me not want to buy the game even more than i already don't.
While the claim is BS, I do prefer stylized over realistic games.
I just hate the cel shaded graphics in this game, in Wind Waker it worked because it was relevant to the game, it was trying to be a cartoon in style. The cel shaded graphics had context.
The cel shaded graphics in this game seem to be just for the sake of it. Probably to hide what were unsightly graphics.
