Silent Hill: Shattered Memories sales disappoint, The Crystal Bearers starts off slow

Unfortunately, two more third-party Wii titles that were released last month have received disappointing sales, based on data from NPD.

I can sort of see why people didn't pick up The Crystal Bearers as it has a number of flaws, but Silent Hill is another story. It's crazy how people say there are no good games to play on the Wii, then something like Shattered Memories is released, and no one buys it.

Totally. I bought it and I think "casual players" could get by just fine. It's just that casuals aren't capable of seeking out an interesting game. That's tragic on it's own.

After all the trash talk on ffxiii among western reviewers and game fans , for being too linear ... one would expect Crystal bears to be a bigger success , given it's high quality , especially when on the leading home console and coming from one of the biggest japanese franchises .

It shows that in the end , and in a rather opposition to all complaints and naysaying , most people only want Final Fantasy to remain a "normal" final fantasy .

Besides a few duds like Dirge of cerberus , most tentative to delve into new genres for the franchise has met limited success

if crystal bearers stayed the same way the crystal chronicle series has always been it would have sold way better just like all the other ones

As for Crystal Berears, this game changed the Crystal Chronicles series, it's just a mediocre action game full of bugs.

Because talk about how bad a Wii game can sell is the new trend but if you make some search, you will see A LOT of HD games selling poorly (try Bionic Commando, Wolfenstein etc).

What? Unfair? No, everyone will see only the bad side for the Wii because it's not as powerful as the other consoles and the third parties are developing all the biggest franchises for the HD consoles.

1. You're comparing The Conduit to one of the buggiest, most broken games in recent times.
2. The Conduit was expected to actually break half a million, especially seeing as it is one of the few "Hardcore" games to release on the Wii in it's entire existence.

It's no secret that homecoming didn't sell stellar numbers. It's pointless to compare the sales though because Silent Hill Shattered Memories was being looked at as (yet again) a title that was going to show that there is an audience for such games on the wii. Homecoming on the ps3/360/pc was just another game being released.

this is about attach rate while Wii haved a 30 million userbase(in America) at the release of SH:SM, PS3 haved a 7 million userbase (in America)at the release of SH:H (2008)and both sold around 40,000 units in the same range of time

But I guess if a PS3 game bombs/flops, it means most PS3 owners bought the PS3 just for it's Bluray player, right? Hell no. Sales are unpredictable, and no matter who tries to spin this fact, not all games sell the same.

To see great games go to waste on the Wii. MadWorld, No more heroes, Resident Evil remakes, the list goes on. If these games were released on 360/ps3, there would be no doubt that they have sold at least 800k, let alone 1mil+. Japanese developers are either scared or just lazy. HELL! Just release these games on psn/xbla, keep the same engines to save money, and bump up the res to 720/1080p. I'd bet you their games would sell like hot cakes. I don't hate the Wii, it's just that I feel it's a Nintendo only system. And will be that way until they flex their muscles with the Wii 2.

I have been wanting a Silent Hill 1 remake for about 3 years now and i still can't own it (Don't Have A Wii). i recommend this title to every wii owner.

I hope it gets remade for PS3 & 360.

It's aggravating to see the Wii owners (at the source) say things like "We don't want these types of games! Shattered Memories is a remake of a PSone game and Crystal Bearers is a crappy spin-off. Give us proper games!"

Give them to PS3/360 owners then! I wouldn't mind playing Shattered Memories or Crystal Bearers on a next-gen console. I can recognise that they are good games...even if they are only remakes and spin-offs.

Well, that's just the way the industry works. The public perception is that traditional games don't do well on the Wii and mini-game collections don't do well on the HD consoles. Square's reluctance to put something like Bearers on the PS3/360 is therefore understandable.

thats me anyhow I wait for the games to go to 29.99 or less. I know if im patient most will go down. Ive learned to just wait a few months after the release dates to buy the games. I save so much money. I Love silent hill but I will never buy a silent hill for more than $30. As for crystal bearers im hesitant to buy any game that has consistently bad reviews even though I love the other crystal chronicle games.

I just want to point out that the reason Shattered Memories was made for the Wii/PS2 and PSP is because of the poor performance of homecoming. Silent Hill has been pulling bad numbers for a while now and SM will most likely outsell Homecoming, which platform makes up the majority of the sales is debatable though.

With Crystal Bearers it depends if they've counted broken street date sales(although probably not) although the game is likely selling better with the more casual demographic(due to advertising) and less with the "core" demographic(due to poor reviews). And it's funny people say they'd play Crystal Bearers on the PS3 and 360 because they're the guys who give the Crystal Chronicles all the hate and say crap like it should die.

EDIT: Anyway I say give it some time, if you look at a lot of the Wii game proclaimed flops upon first release you'll see they've pulled some decent numbers overall and many publishers have commented that it's a slowburn.

There's no doubt in my mind that Crystal bearers will have good sells when the price drops or wen people realize its there. its not like gameinformer talked about the game before release. once word of mouth gets around, sells will go up. Remember TOS;Dawn of the New World? i think it pulled of better sales that it should have.

another thing to remember, is that on the leading console, sales are always scattered because there are so many different types of games and so many different types of gamers. I know 2 "Hardcore" as you call em, gamers who purchased Rune Factory and Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn the week that Crystal Bearers released because of price drops and they finally got the money to buy them. When you look at it these sales are good for unhyped and unwanted games. I never liked the main series FF, but i know the media butchers anything that isn't main series, so that effects sales too.

remember how poorly okami, ico, psychonauts, and viewtiful joe did on the PS2. Some people didn't even know viewtiful joe was on PS2. my bro was one of them. meanwhile katamari demacy sold like heck. At least wii isn't hyping a crappy game about rolling crap up into a ball. But you guys love to attack the supposed bad sales and ignore the good sales

It wasn't a real silent hill. The main character was a former soldier and had an arsenal to go up against the baddies in silent hill. The previous silent hill characters were just regular average Joe people, who couldn't even swing a lead pipe to save their life, let alone use a gun(if you found one). It added to the sense of helplessness the game portrayed. I'll never consider home coming a true silent hill game.

In just 1 region the Wii game has almost gotten half of the PS3 world wide sales for a game that costs a 4th of what a PS3 game cost to make.
We know development costs are higher(I say we as on me and the other gamers that actually look into things ourselves and are not sheep) on PS3 and 360. So those Wii games do not need 4 million in sales to make a profit. They do not even need one million in sales to make money.

it would instantly sell better than on the wii. its like all the problems of the game would just magically go away. even though this game is awesome, there are glitches in it though, falling through floors, after-images, ect.

maybe they should have advertised the game. advertising on game sites and game mags is useless. people who want it would already know about it. it would be like going on to the geico website and seeing an add for Allstate. hell, i wouldn't have know about this game, if it wasn't for nintendo power. thats the only add i've seen for this game, was a nintendo power preview and review.

also the no combat really turned people off. i guess they want their SH games to play like RE5 instead. there's a reason there's no combat. its revealed at the end.

this is one of the best wii games i have played/own. yes the nightmares get annoying, but its still a good game, and i was actually surprised at the ending. i was like holy ****! if you own a wii, i'd say get the game.

I have the game and it is great. But unless you go on the internet to get release dates or are an unbiased gamer, you would know about Silent Hill.

Crystal Bearers will do a lot better over time. All of the FUD articles are just that, FUD.

Multi console owners need to buy Wii games too, however they would rather buy filth like Dante's Inferno or Darksiders over Silent Hill.
