Right from the title screen, Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball comes off as more than a tad contrived. Pirates and ninjas? Really? Internet memes have the lifespan of a chain-smoking fruit fly as it is, and the whole "pirates versus ninjas" debate has long since been buried amongst layers of keyboards cats and dancing hamsters. Quality mechanics and rewarding, lasting gameplay would be more than enough to make up for a tired premise, but Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball seems content to focus solely on cashing in on a joke everyone stopped laughing at years ago.
