Confirmed: Nintendo Power review score of The Conduit

The first review of The Conduit is officially in. Numerous pictures of the upcoming issue of Nintendo Power prove that this score is the real deal.

I went to school in Schaumburg at the Art Institute where some of the HV guys went too (though they graduated a few years before me)....

I think to look at the attempt made (whether the game is "amazing" or not) is noteworthy, simply because of the game's target console. At least they didn't succumb to making more shovelware and garbage for the Wii. They are/were trying to push graphics and an engine on a system that has been condemned to virtually purely, casual gaming and one of the least hardcore systems Nintendo has ever put out. The system needs a void filled, why should we hope that void remains?

I say whether the game is a real 8 or not, props for defying the stereotype to the best they could. Better than watching the Wii's hardcore gaming hopes wither and die, maybe this will push other devs somehow...It'll be interesting to see a broad spectrum of scores for this within the coming weeks, or better yet, to try the game myself one day (don't have a Wii though).

What is so bad about a 8? It is still a good score, and beats most other Wii FPS games out there (most, not all). I am still buying it.

Just remember that IGN, X-Play, GT, GameSpot, GameInformer, Destructoid, etc still have to review the game. Who knows??

Man I kind of feel bad for all the Wii only owners out there. I'm sure this game is pretty decent, but doesn't hold a candle to FPS on the other 2 consoles. I really hope E3 has something nice in store for the hardcore gamers on the Wii. As of now I'll only dust off my Wii to play MH3...but I'm not even sure if I'll do that. :/

We still get gems like NMH, Madworld, TvC etc. While the HD consoles get FPS after FPS or TPS after TPS. The Wii has more fighting games and better platformers/adventure games than the HD consoles so it evens out.

I actually own 13 consoles and the Wii and DC, get more playtime than the PS3. KZ2 and SFIV are the only reasons I touch PS3.

if yoiu bough a wii when your intrested in FPS'ers you'd have to be pretty stupid the same goes for RTS's as they contain studying and tactics, where most wii games are sertanly lower quality and definatly casual pick up and play for an hour or so. I didn't think Halo wars was amazing, i liked the controls and i found it cool and familure at first with the story and easy controls however. i soon fond the game not as fancy as say red alert 3 on the PC. and rather predictable with pretty much no origanality. i'd have given it a 7 as it didn't beat modern pc based RTS games. if this news was based on another format rather than a wii based ipinion then it would have had more credablity.

...from a Halo 2 wannabe. Graphically, that's about what the Conduit has to offer...AT BEST ; Halo 2 is honestly much more impressive, even though its nearly 6 years older. In terms of MP...there's no freakin' way they could hope to compete with what Bungie has done, or with XBOX Live. 8/10 is respectable for a Wii title...but this game would have been a 3/10 on the 360 or PS3 AT MOST.

Albeit a little harsh, the same thought had crossed my mind. If NINTENDO POWER is making statements like...

- Doesn't measure up to “big guns” of the genre.
- Predictable story.
- Unimpressive AI.
- Little innovation.
- Lack of destructible environments is a disappointment.
- Level of detail in locales can be inconsistent.

Then I wonder what a non-Nintendo magazine is going to say. That's a little disconcerting. However, best not to judge until after release.

I will give the game a review when I get it. I think that the game is really suited for multiplayer, so I will play with all of you guys to test this. Killzone 2 didn't have a great single player, but awesome multiplayer, so I'll see how that goes.

Some of NP's review shows that maybe they don't realize that the system isn't as powerful, and decided to focus on awesome controls, multiplayer, and make it look as best as they could haha. Yes, Sidar. It has a different job than FPS on PS360 does and only really had to get the basics right to be the first fyll package Wii shooter-which I'll bet it's done.

Nobody ever said it could look like KZ2 or that it would be a "Halo Killer"-those are irrelevant to HVS. They are doing their first big self funded game, no licenced stuff this time and they've really tried to push the Wii. That not everything has fallen together isn't shocking but I'd bet, again, that the controls(the MAiN reason to even bother with a Wii game in this genre)are tight as you like and will carry this first outing. The MP, if better than what Wii has so far had(and I think it should well be with a couple of decent modes)is something I'm still looking forward to as a change from Killzone2-we haven't had a game really work as an online shooter just yet for Wii.

Bottom line is that they needed to get the basics tight and only the AI seems to be lacking as far as I can see so 8/10 might be very fair and iot certainly isn't a disaster so I'll be giving this a good go-I suspect that it could well be a real hit online-at least I'm still hoping.

From a scale from 1 to 10, 6 is actually already above the "bad" zone.

Already got mine paid for. Its telling that the kids crying over an 8 are Sony fans. Yet when WKS got a 67 it was all fake. Couldnt be real for that AAA must own.

I'm not really buying the reivew anyway. If its from Nintendo that is really sad. Taking off points for something very few FPS contain is just a little too much imo. Of course it works out great for SOny fanboys. They can act like an 8 is horrible even though that is the same thing most PS3 games get.

Rather than bashing PS3 titles, which he does almost incessantly, he should be talking up all the great Wii titles (which in MY opinion there are MANY great Wii titles, but what do I know? I'm a PS3 fanboy). He's a perfect example of a gamer who would rather QQ and spew negativity than play games.

Enjoy your games, Sef. I'll enjoy mine. PS3 fans will enjoy theirs. 360 fans will enjoy theirs. Multi-plat owners will enjoy them all. There's no reason to piss on anybody's cornflakes.

@Sidar: It's not the rating that is putting people off. Everyone universally agrees that an 8/10 is still GOOD. What may put people off is the content of the review. When NINTENDO POWER, of all publications, is using words and phrases like "Doesn't measure up", "Predictable story", "Unimpressive AI" and "disappointment" then one has to wonder about the quality of The Conduit.

It'd be like PSM saying that Killzone2's graphics were "disappointing" or that it's enemy AI seemed "unimpressive". These publications are clearly lenient toward the console that they represent. If these publications are disappointed, then what does that say for magazines that choose to cover all platforms equally?

The best thing I can say is that if you never really cared about the single player game in the first place, you can expect to have a great time with Halo 3 for years to come. If however, you are looking to “Finish the Fight”, and don’t plan on paying for Xbox Live Gold, you would be best served to wait for a price drop or two… or three.

If the fanboy publication of Nintendo gave this "masterpiece" a 8.0, it must really be a 6 or 7. I find that I get so bored so fast with so many games that are given even an 8, that reviews only serve as the most basic guideline for whether I even give it a chance. And then, it is hit or miss.

But having that said, I subscribe to Playstation Magazine, Xbox Magazine, and Game Informer. The PS and 360 magazines do serve the fanboys and I take their reviews very much with a grain of salt. They do give low reviews, but never for the top titles no matter how bad they are. If these magazines aren't directly owned by the company in whole or in part, they are in bed with them pretty good and have very biased reviews. A fanboy of a platform that spends his life playing that platform's games for a living and then writing reviews is living and breathing that platform and isn't going to bash it entirely too much. If nothing else they don't want to lose their job. If they honestly thought GOW3 or Halo OSDT sucked, would they really give it a 3 in a magazine dedicated to that very platform? I don't think so at all.

Of those three magazines I get, I feel I can trust Game Informer the most. They are looking at the three major systems, the handheld systems, and the PC games. They just want to put good games in your hands. They are not in bed with a specific platform. So I give their reviews more credit than the others.

Having all that said, it is pretty bad if such an anticipated game is given an 8 by their fanboy publication. I'll pass on this game.

No, I honestly don't see it with Game Informer. I have all three video game systems and have games for each. If this magazine is in favor of one system, I really don't see it. Maybe I am skimming the reviews or something. Which platform would you say they are so supportive of? I'm serious.

Everything I have heard about this game is negative from all reviews. Not just Nintendo Power. But for them to even give it a bad review, I'd say it probably isn't so great. If it is released and the consumers overwhelmingly love it, I will give it a chance. But my initial reaction with all the bad press is to look down on it. I'm not shutting it out no matter what. I have an open mind.

well it got an 8 from a nintendo magazine so chances are major gaming publications like ign,gamespot,gametrailers etc. would probaly rate it lower i mean i remember when killzone 1 came out OPS2 magazine gave it a 9/10 when the major reviews came it got 6's and 7's out of ten.

HVS is on the right track, why, well they say nothing bad about multiplayer nor the controls and they seem to be fans of story driven FPS, they compared it to HL2 and some thing else, now that's is unfair, even killzone and halo get crushed by that game plus HL2 will never come to the Wii. This is also a good score coming from a real console mag because these guys do not like FPS that much.

Infamous at best is a 7 and you know it. The constant sticking to walls and the complete lack of skilled platforming and lame "choice" to make along with partial effects is what you are hyped about? I was actually looking forward to it and prototype and yes I don't really care what system they are on. I look at all the power these two HD systems have an wonder why does the gamers on these system limit them selves to certain games? Nintendo doesn't own, operate or distribute Nintendo Power. They have no control over the reviews. A Nintendo Power review is no different than a review from any other publication and writer for Nintendo Power cannot lose their job from a bad review because Nintendo does not control the mag.

But I still think that Conduit will do very well. CoD games did well on the Wii and are still played online today. Eventhough its an average FPS game, Wii owners will swarm on it because its a new FPS game with online for the Wii.

Im getting it, because it complements R2 and KZ2 for me. When I get tired of using the DS3, just pop in Conduit and get some headshots with the Wiimote.

BtW- There arent too many innovative FPS games anymore. Besides CoD4, KZ2 and Halo , they have all be very similar and bland.

I feel NP actually does good reviews, i get tired of seeing 9's and 10's from other publications so when i see an 8 from NP i feel confident that is what I'm getting out of the game, instead of an over hyped 9 or 10 that feels like an 8.

Besides I'm buying this game for the controls and multiplayer and those are 2 features NP strongly felt that the Conduit excelled in.

the fact that the conduit got an 8/10 from a NINTENDO MAGAZINE!!!! makes people wonder how low the game is gonna score whith other gaming publications like the ones i listed, and FYI infamous has scored in the high 8's on gamerankings its yet to be reviewd by other gaming sites like xplay,gamepro,edge.

Why is everyone picking on Infamous? So far only two reviewers have given it a 7. Have you doubters even played the demo or read the reviews? First of all the sticking the everything is not as bad as some people make it out to be.I had the same problems with Sly Cooper but it can be overcome. Next the Reapers are truly an enemy to be reckoned with. I tried the game on normal and they kicked my a$$. They ran for cover, ran away from me when I came for them, dodged my attacks and gunned me down. The white reapers were a pain too as they teleported and blasted me from all sides. I died a lot but my jumping and attacking where as smooth as silk with no slow down.I was fun to blast cars with grenades, send reapers flying into the lake with my force lightning, jump through the air with lightning thrusters and climb to the highest heights and watch all over the city. As for the city it is not as ugly as people say.Neither are the cut scenes in between the game. So long story short it deserves the praise it was given. The slight flaws it has does not equal it to a 7. Leave Infamous out of this and worry about you own game. I don't understand since when bad AI,lack of innovation, predictable story, not measuring up and inconsistent graphics add up to an 8.Everything Nintendo does is always okay in everyone's eyes.

Why does everyone base things around the scores given from "professionals". Go to any site that has user's scores to find how good the game really is.

The thing is, when Halo came out it was "revolutionary" but it wasn't. The only thing Halo brought to the table was multilayer never seen on a console. Halo 2 did it even better, were they nice games (graphically)? Yes, were they innovative in control? No. So now The Conduit comes out and everyone is saying oh well its the same ole same ole. Lets see... The Conduit is innovative in control, graphic's, and multilayer for the Wii. The UI Customization is "revolutionary" for every FPS game. So honestly The Conduit just took over what Halo had done to the X-BOX. So just take a moment to think about something like that. Is the game innovative for its time? In one department yes. Is the game "revolutionary" for its console? Absolutely.

Well, seeing how my cash flow has been slowing down lately I think I'm gonna use whatever I have on Overlord 2 instead (which conveniently releases the same day).

Nintendo Power gave the Wii version of Okami a 75, lower than just about every other major reviewer. They didn't give SMG or LoZ:TP perfect marks, while plenty of reputable sources did. Their score is lower than most for Punch Out, and they also gave No More Heroes an 8.

If Conduit is as good as NHM, that's pretty damn good, IMO. Not AAA, but still top shelf.

And if anyone would actually read the review ( http://i293.photobucket.com... instead of just the highlights...it's a pretty favorable write up. Good graphics with impressive texture work, the best console FPS controls you'll find, great online (the Bounty Hunter mode, in particular), the ASE is cool (but underutilized), and well-designed interiors for shoot outs (saying it isn't run and gun isn't a slight).

Sounds like a solid score, and well thought out. I wouldn't be surprised to see 1UP or IGN give it higher marks.
