SEGA confirms final box art cover for The Conduit

SEGA has confirmed the final box art for The Conduit, following its appearance on Amazon.com. This past weekend, the cover art showed up along with the "T" (Teen) rating. The black cover art was a temporary cover, which may still be around on other retail websites. See a larger image of the final box art for The Conduit here.

Not bad at all. Really doesnt matter whats on the box though. It is what is inside that counts. Hopefully it ends up being good.

Actually it does matter. A boxart can lead to a picking up the game and buying it. It has to catch their eye.

For a FPS, Resistance: Fall of Man is still the best IMO.

it reminds me of the good ol' NES/SNES days where just about all the box covers were bad ass. and i agree that it looks better than the MGS4 and KZ2 covers; but will the gameplay be just as good? i hopes so, even though i dont think the game will surpass the awesomeness of KZ2/ MGS4. especially MGS4...hmmm its a damn great game!

Its 2009 not 1992. Old skool is nice when done well and where appropriate (see house of the dead overkill) but why have they made that cover for a game that is meant to be FUTURISTIC?

Its so tacky and horrible. It's like playing heavy metal in a zelda advert, yeah it might be a good/cool song but is it appropriate? It is trashy. It lowers the tone of the game i think.

The artwork screams 'grrrrr hey teens, buy this game, it's wicked dude!' It doesn't have any subtly what so ever, it has no sophistication. I won't be surprised if the ad for this game has heavy metal music over it with a guy screaming the games features over it.

Check out the halo cover, the zelda covers.. Basic, understated, it makes it appear more quality. The artwork for conduit just screams at you, it IS tacky and it IS horrible. It says a lot about the audience it is intended for.

I definitely agree that this box art comes off as tacky. Though I have been looking forward to this game very much, this box art is quite a turn off to the game.

From the boxart, it doesn't look like it's an FPS that is to be taken seriously. It looks cheesy and a little camp.
Someone said it's "2009 not 1992" but it looks more like it's from the 1970s. I look at the artwork and I'm thinking Flash Gordon or even Barbarella.
The image is to crowded aswell making it look cheap, there's nothing iconic or artistic about it.

I totally disagree,
I actually like the use of colors, Red(warm colors) in the background, and blue(colder) in the forground.
The way he is set up with the ASE makes the image much more dynamic compared to many other boxarts.

Relevance? What relevance does a static image with little dynamic touches have to do with a game of today?
Cause today its pretty much the world of interaction and not static realms.
How is a boxart like that from Killzone2 relevant?

I mean the game is about Mr.Ford
ASE is gonna be important
There are alien enemies behind him, and the city is in full flames.
I see nothing wrong with the image honestly. its pretty much all relevant?

Personally the way I view the cover is that instead of displaying a "secret agent-esk" theme for the game, it seems to present more of a Duke Nukem theme, which to me anyway, seems to misadvertise what the game is actually supposed to be like.

The artists use of complementary colours is one of the reasons I find the image cheap and tacky looking. Look at the box art for Halo 3, that is a good example of how complementary colours can be used to good effect.
I also don't like how the character is posing, very tacky. He doesn't really look like he's in the heat of battle does he? He just looks like he has been asked to strike a pose.

If this boxart is a good representation of the game itself, then the game is certainly not what I have been expecting, and I doubt it will be worth a purchase.

Personally, i like the two film artworks i gave as examples. I think using art like that today would be good, if it was appropriate- I.E if the film was set in that era. But to use that style of art so randomly comes across (as Wh15ky said) cheap. The artwork itself is technically good, but it looks like fan art, rather than art to be used to sell a product that has long promised to be what the 'hardcore' gamers want.

Yeah, your right. I said 70s but it is more like the action/ adventure movie art work of the 80's, spot on!

House of the dead overkill is based on the old pulp comics, hence the style of its box art- using comic book style drawings. Mad world is another game with a comic book style, hence the use of a black and white basic cover. Metal Gear solid is an espionage type game, hence the serious tone of its cover.. Resident evil-gloomy/claustrophobic covers that reflect the game.. etcetera etcetera.

I think these examples are good because the art reflects the game, you look at the cover and you get a good feel for the game. It was good judgement to use those artworks for those games. It would have been inappropriate to use a cutesy colorful artwork for the mad world box art, how would it be relevant to the game when it is clearly not a cute game?

That is why i think the Conduit cover is bad, the image doesn't represent the game. When i think of conduit with all the footage i have seen so far, that image/art does not come into my mind. It seems to be a random choice, as that type of art is very old fashion and particular, hence- what is the relevance? Maybe it's just not the game i thought it was.

How does this example fit in with this art(taking it in general not just in terms of being "cute")?
Everything on the cover matches, hell the game is suppose to be "cool" because its suppose to set a new standard on the Wii for FPS.

Relevance is there, just because it has this old school look to it doesn't mean its not relevant or random.
