That's what I use my computer for. In game messaging I want. In game XMB settings I want (even though some don't; sometimes I forget to change settings before I start a game.) To me, music is nothing more than a bullet point.
How about a proper search engine?
This article is only referring to Japan sales, though the relevance of only Japan's sales clearly doesn't show the whole picture after looking at your chart.
# In 1989, Eric Lechner, Lars Norpchen and Matthew Kaufman circulated a Dihydrogen Monoxide contamination warning on the UC Santa Cruz Campus via photocopied fliers.[3] The concept originated one afternoon when Matthew recalled a similar warning about "Hydrogen Hydroxide" that had been published in his mother's hometown paper, the Durand (Michigan) Express, and the three then worked to coin a term that "sounded more dangerous". "Yeah, I bought this faceplate to exemplify my uniqueness, just like all the other people that bought the same on...
Sony doesn't need a whole new redesign. I can easily see Sony making a peripheral much like the second picture, but with an add-on second analog stick, or with two new comfortable sticks. They can heavily market it, and game companies can utilize multiple control schemes, for those that purchase the peripheral and those that don't. Everybody happy, or at least me. alas, it's just a pipedream
edit: where are the pics? ok, here:

Most likely the PSP2 will have a touch screen and bluetooth, so with IR I can ditch my harmony. Logitech already has a relationship with Sony (and others) so this can strengthen the relationship by making some deal to license the manufacturer codes or such.
If this were to happen, it could possibly be another...
