Without Itagaki, Tecmo is dead.

In June of 2008, one of the best game designers in Japan who designed the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive series, left Tecmo on accounts that some bonuses were never given to him after his completion of Dead or Alive 4. Now ever since then, Tecmo has been releasing terrible games (except Robocalypse) since then. Most games after Ninja Gaiden II have been terrible. Tecmo has released games like SPRay and Rygar: The Battle of Argus. Let me go into this further.

First lets take a look at 2 games released after Ninja Gaiden II. First is SPRay. SPRay is a game that is about a young (I would say around 6 year old) prince who must save the princess by using liquids like vomit, ice, and water to get from place to place. It got horrid reviews and is one of the worst games of 2008. Nintendo Power gave it a 3.0. GameTrailers gave it a 4.7. This game is terrible and it came out after Ninja Gaiden II. Tomonobu Itagaki made great games and was probably the best person at Tecmo. What other famous game designers are from Tecmo?? None, really??

Next and my last game was Rygar: The Battle of Argus. Originally a PS2 game from 2002 that nobody cared about, Rygar added nothing new but motion control. The graphics look like a 2002 game of it's quality. The game also added "white spiky hair!" to the main character. This game got a 1 out of 5 by G4's X-Play and a 5.0.

Now the final thing Tecmo is going to do is release a PS3 shooter "Quantam Theory". The game looks O.K, but I wouldn't suggest it to anybody (not even my older brother who owns a PS3). The game is basically "Final Fantasy and Gears of War's disfigured baby and looks "weird". They are trying something new of course, a third-person shooter in a Fantasy setting. I hope it works well.

The only game that looks good is Fatal Frame IV. But let me note, Suda51, helped develope the game. The game looks like a great addition to the Wii because it just makes sense. I won't know until I rent it from BlockBuster for 5 dollars.

The final thing that is the most disturbing is that Tecmo is going to merge with Koei in April. Koei's only good games are the Dynasty Warrior franchise and even that is losing steam. Now if they have to merge with a company just because their greatest and only great designer left, this means a lot. I just hope that Itagaki does something smart like buy the DoA and Ninja Gaiden franchises and make his own company, because just imagine how both franchises could die just like the Sonic games in recent years. I hope Itagaki does well and I hope that a good game designer moves in to Tecmo.

Well the thing is Itagaki was part of Team Ninja which had nothing to do with those games. I agree that Rygar isn't the best but I have't played Spray. I'll have more of an opinion on Quantam Theory when I actually see some gameplay.

Fatal Frame does look awesome but you are right Suda was there to help :)

Tecmo losing Itagaki is like Konami losing Kojima. Sure they'll make somewhat decent games, but their main titles that excelled are no longer within.

If I am correct, Itagaki mainly worked on DOA and Ninja Gaiden games. I think he had very little (if any) influence on any of their other franchises.

So for the future of the DOA and NG franchises, I believe they will lack his touch. In a sense, it will probably be like a franchise going under EA's label.

Reguardless of what anyone thinks of Itagaki's personality, he always had a certain vision for games. He wanted the games to push other developers to try harder, and to prove to his development team that they could do more that they might have.

Those games could have easily looked like Ps2 or Xbox games, played slow, and have clumsy controls, but he would find every little detail and point it out to be fixed and tell them how to do it!

I hope Itagaki finds a new home, because losing him to me(the adult gamer) is like Nintendo losing Miyamoto.

Another Itagaki fanboy...get the hell out!
The guy is a director not an art designer, code support, music artist, concept designer, game tester etc. He didn't make any game, he directed and produced games.

Because people hail him for bringing DOA and Ninja Gaiden, he too started buying it and kept boasting he made those games.

Itagaki is the head of Team Ninja, Team Ninja is part of Tecmo.

By the way..reviews means nothing nowadays:/ You need to play the games yourself for you to judge, not by looking at some idiot journalism fanboylism reviewing or final score rating. The same goes to metacritc (what ever the site is called).

By the way Ninja Gaiden 2 sucked! So does DOAX2.

This sad fanboy haven't even played Quantum Theory and he's judging the game already. Aww...fanboys are really f**ing killing the gaming world.

And Tecmo had come up with other good games such as Fatal Frame series, as well as Japanese online games, check their site:/

What!!! I am just saying that the game quality is getting worse. I am not a fanboy!!! Don't accuse me of being a fanboy just because I am saying that with him gone the games will suffer!!! This is an analysis.

Like most of the people here have explained Itagaki had no involvement in any other Tecmo game besides DOA and NG.

Tecmo has had their share of poor quality games even with Itagaki in their ranks.

I personally think they should have accepted the big by Square Enix. I think it would've helped them more than merging with Koei.

Saw this coming since the first nerf to the meta. Anyone that had any sense and wasn't a fan boy knew this was gona happen. Knee jerk reaction nerfs to the meta made the game boring.
