Top 10. Advice to Insomniac For Resistance 3.

I have completely edited this list for 6/1/10 just for the fun of it. Enjoy.

10. Bring back all the old Chimera. Gray Jacks, Widowmakers, bring em all!

9. Move support. I want to play shooter games that are better than the Conduit with Conduit-like controls. That sounded weird I know but still.

8. Keep multiplayer at 60 players. 60's the perfect number.

7. Vehicles in the campaign.

6. Weapon Wheel, now that was innovative. Even if you keep the wheel at 4, still it would be awesome.

5. Bring back some old weapons from R:FoM.  I would love to play with the XR-005 Hailstorm, the Sapper, and the Dragon again. That would increase the weapon roster largely.

4. Get some new weapons into the mix. This game should have around 16-18 weapons, and get some cool stuff in here.

3. Keep supporting the online. The thing with Resistance is that we got one map pack then support disappeared. Release Co-operative and Competitive DLC flowing throughout the year.

2. Make the game longer. I hate the usual 10 hours in a FPS game with only 5 minute cutscenes. You should add to the Blu-ray and make this a much longer game. Most FPS games can be beaten in 10 hours. After that you can do what?? Make it a longer experience. I want to be stuck inside a FPS for a month or two.

1. Explain the Chimera: This species is extremely unknown. You could reveal some more information about them and bring in new enemies. That would be very exciting to learn about several unknown facts like: When did the Chimera towers be built and where is their homeworld. Leave it open for the inevatable Resistance 4 (I just peed myself thinking about it!).

Well, here is some tips. I hope you use them and blow everyone away with Resistance 3.

I reckon they should do like they did on R&C by adding a challenge mode when the game is complete, where the enemies are even harder (harder than superhuman) and each have a random gun (It'd be funny to see a low level chimera with a LAARK)

R2 looked good for a launch game. Uncharted, MGS4, and KZ2 have all raised the bar. Step your game up Insomniac.

Don't use the Ratchet engine. It doesn't work for what Resistance should be. See if you can get Guerilla's engine.

R1 felt like Europe. The stages had a "real" feel to them. R2 felt like nowhere. The stages did not make me sentimental or evoke any kind of emotion in me and the game was in my friggin country this time around.

Work on the spawning points. Seriously, why do I get spawned and then someone gets spawned right behind me. That bites so much I can't even tell you.

Make the sniper rifle a one shot one kill weapon unless you get hit in the hands or legs. I shouldn't hit someone center mass and get only 50xp. If I'm going to snipe and take the risk of getting killed in close quarters (very likely) then reward me by allowing the sniper rifle to do real damage.

Allow me to "cook" my grenades. And improve the grenade throwing mechanic as a whole.

Making the game about 10 hours long is a balancing act. They have to balance the skills of a gamer who is very experienced and will beat the game in a few hours but with re-playability versus the occasional gamer who needs to get value from the game ie; complete it.

As for your other ideas; Both R1 and Ratchet were criticised by many hacks for having far to many weapons which felt superfluous as the game could be done using only a few weapons on offer. Offering less weapons I assume was a response to this (though I think it is grasping at straws by reviewers to criticise something for giving players too much choice outside of what is essential). And the idea of the chain gun thing, Resistance already gets unfairly compared to GeOW so how would a blatant rip off of the the Lancer be beneficial to the game?

80 player online, sounds good but it seems to be more about the ability of having more people. It is certainly impressive but TBH I would prefer a 16 player very high quality and enjoyable game to a 60-80 player bog standard death match where you get killed every 5 seconds. I think Insomniac should focus more on some innovative multiplayer game modes on the existing network framework rather than peddle the same formula with more people.

Explaining more about the origin of the species would be nice though but I have a feeling that the real detail will be kept aside for spin off books and cartoons. I also expect R3 to be the last one in the series, trilogies make the world go round!

SinnedNogara5603d ago

I am not a fan of trilogies in games. I feel that they end the series too soon. I want the story to be fleshed up. I also feel that some weapons could be unlockable and usuable in the second campaign or co-op campaign or multiplayer (Except the XR-42 Pheonix) and it would make players want to play more. I also think they should make every weapon enjoyable and fun to play. The Dragon wasn't the best weapon in R1, so they should improve it and make it one of those secret weapons again.

Tip #1- cancel the franchise its a generic boring franchise that does not sell. Insomniac is better off starting from scratch with a new hot franchise.

Jager5603d ago

Sales = who cares?

Halo 3, most sales on Xbox 360, so i guess Gears 2 is worse then Halo 3 eh?

socomnick5603d ago

yes gears 2 is worse than halo 3. I still play halo 3 even after its launch in 2007, gears of war 2 not so much.

Dude, R2 absolutely sucked. Resistance Fall of Man was great (i played it straight for over 16 months) but R2 is crap. The story short, poor quality and extremely disconnected. If they even make an R3, they should bring back the narrator as they had in R1. You are 100% correct though that they need to bring back the old rfom weapons and do away with the crap R2 weapons...the splicer? wraith? and Marksman? Are you kidding me? Those weapons are all crap and rip offs from other games anyway. IG WAS known for unique weapons with rfom but with R2 they sucked it up bad. THe only good additions of weapons in R2 is the updated Auger for sure and perhaps the Phoenix...but even that is kind of wack. For R3 they need to have a solid single player campaign (which they did not have in R2), dont worry about the total numbers in adversarial multiplayer. 60 is already too much. DO NOT GO ANY HIGHER. Instead, lower the number and increase the graphical quality of the character models in multiplayer because the R2 online models suck....bad. I WAS a huge IG fan but after R2 Im extremely skeptical about anything they put out. R2 imo was a complete waste of 60 bucks. Oh yeah, one more thing, TAKE YOUR TIME ON R3. Who gives a sh!t if you crank out 2 or 3 games a year if they are crap games. R2 should have been in development for at least another 6 months.

Ok, one more thing, I promise, DITCH THE 2 WEAPON SYSTEM! Its generic and a terrible change in R2. Bring back the weapon wheel and weapon spawns on the map.

Jeebus5602d ago

I thought I was the only person that really disliked R2, despite being an ENORMOUS fan of the first. I played it over and over and over again, and the online was completely addictive.

The weapon wheel contributed largely to my enjoyment of the game because I could run through a level setting up Sapper traps, popping up Hailstorm turrets around corners and pull out my Fareye between it all and watch their heads bobble when I put one between all four of their eyes. You could have as much fun with the game as you wanted to have.

From the first time I got insta-killed by those stupid furies...I knew it wasn't right. The weapon wheel was imperative to the Resistance experience, and I felt shorted by the cheap use of Titans and other ridiculous situations.

I disagree with every word you said. I prefer everything about R2. I hated the narrator in R1, I hated how levels ended by just walking up to a threshhold, crossing it, and then all of a sudden the screen blurs and it cuts to a narrator talking over still images, Ken Burns documentary style. THAT was a disconnected story. Resistance 2 has a much more fleshed out set of characters, much more entertaining cutscenes, and the story is way deeper and more explained if you read the intel and mission updates.

I also prefer the 2-weapon loadout, I prefer the weapon selection, and I prefer the fully rechargeable health.

I played RFOM before R2 was even announced, and I enjoyed it, but R2 blows it out of the water for me.

Luckily the two experiences are so drastically different that I have actual reason to hang on to RFOM if I ever wanted to experience it again. I'm just glad they didn't rehash that experience for R2 and actually made a lot of changes that I personally find to be improvements.

Uh..guys, this article is about Resistance 3. How about the chainsaw idea or something. These comments are for R3, not RFOM, or R2, or R:R.

theonlylolking5462d ago

Well I really dont think this game should do any more than 32 players because 64 is to much kaboom and the graphics are way worse when you go online R2 then story mode. 32 players with Killzone 2 health, same maps, 30+ weapons, resistance 2 story mode graphics online, player make ranked matches, 12hr story mode, 2 player co-op offline story mode, all maps from RFOM via DLC, awsome blurr effects, killzone 2 gameplay, COD4 addictivness, help from guerilla games and zipper to make a awsome game to match Halo series, Cod4 lasting sprint, 4 player unranked online matches, snow maps, fighting on Chimera planet in R3, chimera maps, and the name of the game Resistance 3:fall of the chimera.

Saw this coming since the first nerf to the meta. Anyone that had any sense and wasn't a fan boy knew this was gona happen. Knee jerk reaction nerfs to the meta made the game boring.
