Enough is Enough: Killzone 2 coverage

Earlier today I could not comprehend how so many people can WANT a game to fail. Why people would prefer that progression of the art be paused for a generation was beyond me. I've realized though, that in order for you to understand this, you have to learn to be honest with yourself about how this industry works.

Take the PS3 for example, at(and before) it's launch it was hailed as a failure and nothing more. So many "journalists" pegged it as a failure that they really had to bite their tongues when they were proven wrong. While they could admit to being wrong, there's also a limit to HOW wrong they'll allow themselves to be. After talking that much crap, being proven wrong in nearly every aspect is a definite stab at your pride and credibility.

For PS3 owners, it's been apparent for a while now that their games have to meet a much higher standard than Xbox 360 games to be considered.. good. The 360's standard for "good" is basically to simply master what's already available. It doesn't have to bring anything new, it just has to do whatever it's doing perfectly. The PS3 however, doesn't enjoy this benefit.

The PS3 is subjected to FAR worst cynicism and it's games need to be twice as good to get half as much respect. Being honest with yourself, you know for a fact that had Uncharted been on the 360, people would constantly tote it as yet another AAA exclusive for the 360 and they'd pretty much praise it to death. Since it's a PS3 exclusive however, it's viewed under a magnifying glass and pretty much any "flaw" they find becomes ammunition for points taken off. The 360's games pretty much need to be just flat out bad in order to get points taken off.

The bad part about me saying this is that it can't be said without  sounding like a conspiracy theorists. Look at killzone 2, NO console game has ever came anywhere near it, so what do they badmouth? The gameplay. It's called "generic". Even though it has a first person cover system, vehicles, destructable enviornments, body part specific hit detection, it's still just a generic shooter. Game's like COD4 and halo can simply be "point and shoot" games, but noooo not killzone 2. It doesn't innovate enough in order to be considered good.

I've seen people bounce back and forth between "it doesn't look that good" and "it's fake, it's from a gaming PC". Killzone 2's success causes an inbalance between the PS3 and 360. If killzone 2 turns out to be a good game, than the two consoles aren't on equal ground anymore. And if they're not on equal ground, it makes the 360 look bad. And if the 360 looks bad the JOURNALISTS look bad. Believe it or not, there IS a bias. Not specifically created out of favor of another console, but out of protection to their own credibility. At least thats what I believe. Your thoughts?

what did GTA4 add ? FRINDS??!! is that enough to score the game perfect !!!!! no (but the basic gameplay element are very popular and peiople loved it , they cannot just go and change it now .and that why it called GTA not TBW or whatever).

while KILLZONE sequel for below average game(very broken, need to fix it).

the first one had amazing visual but the gameplay was heavily crtzied ( especially A.I) .... that where most criticism come from.

the question is : what drive you to hype up this game ?
for me is the graphic .is that enough to give a game HIGH SCORE, Definitely NO.BUT IT is a reason to EXPECT the game to score high =

Gears of war looked amazing that is why it caught my attention : but the amazing cover system / active reload /first game to have co-op over the full campaign(drop in, drop out) / most addictive and hardcore Multiplier(my opinion) /revive each other(co-op) /chainsaw, excisions, blank fire is what made the game score high

MY personal opinion : i cannot see this game failing ( at least it will score more than the first one ) .. the new edition of Cover system / new animation / amazing graphic things to start with.

regarding the rest of the blog : i think all you mentioned are as a result of sony hyping the pS3 (sooooooo much ) as super computer = do you still remembers the UT3 footage shown in E3 2005 , there is part where i could not distinguish whether it is a real character or CG .
Motorstorm/DMC4/Tekken all had phenomnal visual at E3 2005
every game @1080p @ 120fps...
when it was relased in 2006 it was @ 600$ and compared to what the 360 offered it looked dead but sony own it 2 thier loyal fans who bulled them out of it

as for Uncharted I played the game and it is definatly AAA.I also love NINJA GAIDEN 2 althogh it scored an avaerage of 82%. reviews are personal opnion and since they are personal opnions they are influnced buy that person bias and thought : this is the reason i do not care about reviews but decide for my self (this is why i visit gaming website to c what feature the game will have ect ect)

guys, how many times I've heard "reviews are opinions" that's bullsh!t

a REVIEW should be a PRODUCT REVIEW not AN OPINION ON THIS GAME WETHER THE REVIEWER LIKE IT OR NOT

good comment btw

While I agree with your main points, I think it's still important to consider how Sony cut its own throat prior to, and immediately following the PS3's launch. This generation's console war was Sony's to lose, as they were miles ahead of Microsoft and Nintendo, both in terms of console sales AND game exclusives.

Unfortunately, Sony's arrogance about the PS3's vastly superior technology, and their initial unwillingness to price the PS3 with mere mortals in mind made them a big target for media criticism. And that, my friend, was well-deserved.

That being said, I do believe the media dug an absurdly huge crater for Sony to climb out of, and it's a testament to Sony's tenacity and market savvy that the PS3 has bounced back so quickly.

Now, going into E3, I think Sony DEFINITELY has regained some serious momentum, but I may have to take out a second on my house in order to pay for the long list of SUPERB games coming out over the next year (Killzone 2, Far Cry 2, Little Big Planet, Fallout 3, Mirror's Edge, Resistance 2, The Last Remnant, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Bioshock, MotorStorm 2, maybe even... dare I say... FF XIII). Seriously folks, we've got some INSANE gaming coming our way!

So, as PS3 fans, let's rejoice in Sony's roaring comeback, while occasionally revisiting why they entered this race with a whimper. A little humility will go a long way in a console war that is really just beginning to pick up steam...
