The HA epidemic

Hello Ladies and Gentleman We interrupt you're regularly scheduled blog posting to bring you this important public service announcement:

PANIC

A wide spread plague has hit the gaming world and the repercussions of this epidemic could mean the end for video gaming.

The "Half-assed" virus, or HA for short, is a 6 stage virus that attacks the hearts of gamers with the possibility of causing lethal reactions for the infected victims. This HA virus is manufactured by a group calling themselves "The Developers". The following are the stages of the HA epidemic.

Stage 1: The Hype

"The Developers" design the virus to attack both the heart and the head during this stage. The HA virus attacks the head and releases images of awesome fights, cool musics, death diffing acrobatics, and senses of team work in these clearly fabricated "works" they call "Trailers". These "Trailers" could be released several different times and once they are released upon the victims it can spread like wildfire. The "Trailers" release these images in the victims mind create desires in the heart of the victim. Sometimes the infection can become so bad that the victim turns to criminal action.

Stage 2: The Game

This is probably one of the hardest hitting stages of the HA virus attack. After the "Trailers" create the wants and desires in the hearts of the victims, which only grows over time, "The Developers" release a catalyst to the HA virus known as "The Game". When a victim gets a hold of "The Game" one of two things can happen. Either the victim has a positive reaction to "The Game", a rarity only getting rarer, or they have a negative reaction to "The Game". "The Developers" purposely release "The Game" in a broken condition where it will intentionally have the hardest time creating positive reactions with the victim. This can cause extreme anger and sadness in the heart of the victims, leading to the potential of suicide.

Stage 3: The patch

After "The Developer" intentionally releases "The Game" in a broken state and create depression and aggression in the hearts of the victims they release stage 3 of the HA virus known as "The Patch". "The Patch" is a inhibitor designed to 'fix' the problems that plague "The Game". Often times "The Patch" is, again, intentionally released to not fix all of the problems with the "The Game". They are only released to bring hope back into the hearts of the victim. The victim starts to regain hope that they can survive the HA virus.

Stage 4: The Fall

After "The Patch" is released to fix the problems with "The Game" and the victims start to regain hope that can survive the HA virus they attempt to reinitialize "The Game". Most of the time the victim will have a negative reaction to "The Game" again and step 3 and 4 will repeat over again. Sometimes "The Patch" will fix "The Game" completely and the victim will survive the HA virus. However for the most part "The Patch" will not fix "The Game" and the victim will develop severe anger and often time intolerable aggression.

Stage 5: Recovery

After The Fall, the victim will go into recovery mode. During this time either the victim is able to completely remove the HA virus by removing "The Game", or they develop an immunity to the HA virus.

Stage 6: Repeat
"The Developers", seeing how well their HA virus worked the first time they begin developing a newer and updated HA virus that the victims of their first HA virus have not developed an immunity towards. The HA virus process repeats itself.

Conclusion:
Ok. I know I over dramatized this quite a bit, but it is a serious problem in gaming today. Developers only understand one thing. Money. Let's start telling the Developers we're sick of them trying to sell us their half assed games. Vote with your wallets.

What can I say. You speak the TRUTH.
I dunno any gamers out there, that enjoy unnecessary aggrevation.

Nate-Dog4754d ago

Very nice read, made me lol, or should I say "HA". (Ok bad pun time over...)

I agree completely though, it happens way too often, sometimes I don't even know who to blame, the devs for making the broken game and releasing it, the big publishers behind them (if there is one) which is forcing them to stick to their initial release date just because they don't want to have to delay one of their games, or the people that buy these games knowing it's going to happen or knowing that the same thing has happened with everyone else and still getting it themselves. Unfortunately it has become a fairly common phenomenon lately, I'd love to say like you for us all to stand up and say we're having none of it, but most of the time especially with a few certain FPSs this tends to happen to, while one person may abstain from buying and do their part for the greater good, another couple of thousand will go ahead and just buy it and pretty much nullify our efforts. I still do it myself now, I bitch and moan everywhere possible about companies doing this and (depending on what game it is of course, but lets be honest it is with FPSs it's happening mostly) stay away from them, but most of the time these efforts are in vain.

dinkeldinkse4754d ago (Edited 4754d ago )

That is one of the reasons why I am done with the FPS genre after Resistance 3.

I would like to note that other types of games do it too, but I would say it is the most common in the FPS genre.

This blog was a very nice, but sadly truthful read.

Step by step this is definitely Black Ops

EskiJoe4751d ago

When you say "the game" do you mean the game or "the game"?

btw I lost...

lex-10204747d ago

No. I mean a video game. I put the quotes around "The Game" because I want the article to seem like it's a virus or a terrorist attack. Example "The Game" is a bioweapon released by a terrorist group called "The Developers". I wanted it to seem like that.
THIS ISN'T REAL.

damn, almost 3 years after it came out on the EGS

Battlestar239h ago

Awesome though i hope the collection is around 30/40 dollars as any higher would be unfair for those of us waiting for the anti gamer EGS exclusive deal to expire.

Well this can only mean one thing... more job layoffs even in the publication industry.

Jin_Sakai3h ago(Edited 3h ago)

“Layoffs occuring“

Yep. IGN now has a monopoly in the gaming media.

“As a result of the acquisition, some redundancies have been made across the UK-based organisation.”

“Gamer Network's publications are GamesIndustry.biz, Eurogamer (including six local language editions), Rock Paper Shotgun, VG247 and Dicebreaker. The business also holds shares in Outside Xbox, Digital Foundry and Hookshot (which operates Nintendolife, PushSquare, PureXbox and Time Extension).”

“IGN Entertainment is the division of Ziff Davis that includes IGN, MapGenie, HowLongToBeat, and Humble Bundle. It has acquired the websites from PAX and New York Comic-Con organiser ReedPop, which initially bought the Gamer Network business in 2018.“

Jingsing2h ago

When say IGN you mean Microsoft's chief propagandist.

-Foxtrot2h ago

All this means is a collective hive mind when reporting the news

They’ll discuss with each other how to handle topics and what kind of headlines to go with so they can fire round after round of whatever point they want to make

And the sad thing is over the many years even to the old GameGate days they love making gamers look bad as a collective. Anything for a hit piece.

victorMaje1h ago

Narrative control. I don’t like this at all.
Independent reviewers will be more important than ever.

OtterX55m ago

Yea, I had actually just seen today on Linkedin that a GamesIndustry.biz guy was talking about being laid off. I didn't read all of his post, but I bet it's because of this. That's a shame to hear. :\

Petebloodyonion2h ago

Probably Microsoft's fault!
They surely gave IGN the idea.
What's next IGN Pass?

But joke aside let's hope that this makes the news better compared to some of IGN branches

Jingsing2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

Microsoft and IGN work quite closely so it isn't a stretch to say this is a move to control the gaming press to get everyone singing from the Microsoft hymn sheet. Not a good look at all. It is transparent stuff like this which is backfiring in Microsoft's face. First they want control of all the games now the media.

crazyCoconuts1h ago

While there's obviously a desire to preserve add revenue and early access to review copies, I doubt there's the level of conspiracy here that you imply. I mean there's no direct link between MS and IGN right?

Petebloodyonion1h ago

You're probably right!!!!
Here's MS evil plan
1) Make sure that Hellblade 2 receives inflated reviews.
2) Fire all the ppl across UK who gave Starfield the justified 6/10 reviews
3) Make sure that Game industry.biz stops giving Sony's president a tribute to spew their lies and have them talk to Sarah Bonds and Todd Howard only.
4) Control the majority of players for the GOTY award so MS wins from now on.

PPL needs to know about this!

Jingsing1h ago

@crazyCoconuts The world has moved on from "direct links" as companies were easily caught doing that. These days corporations can merely operate as a cartel through shared mutual interest which is not strictly kosher either but is also more difficult to prove. It's the fundamental flaw with big corporations in the US economy today and no one in power is addressing it.

Lightning777m ago

Is there proof to anything you're saying?

I've never heard of anything like this or is this N4G once again make believing stuff outta thin air again?

Oh boy! If we've learned one thing about recent news, corporate shrinkage of an industry via buyouts from those at top only leads to good things for employees and consumers!

Aloymetal2h ago

100%!!
IGN and Eurogamer...A match made in heaven!!

thesoftware7301h ago

Aloy!
Yes, good credible websites, I agree, it is a good match.

IGN is one of the most trusted gaming sites, weather you like it or not, but I know because they don't fit the N4G goofiness bubble, they can't be good.

Lexreborn22h ago

Ummmm not sure that’s a good thing that all these review sites are under the same umbrella. There’s no guarantee that they will maintain a non-bias opinion not paid for by the highest bidder.

MrNinosan1h ago

They haven't been non-bias since GamePass was crowned "best service in gaming".

Charal2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

Ouch, that does not sounds good for Eurogamer.
With so much of the industry media that will more or less follow the same editorial line, it will be harder and harder to distinguish PR from actual journalism in a couple of years.

Thinking about it, may it explain their review score for Hellblade 2?

Christopher2h ago

***harder and harder to distinguish PR from actual journalism in a couple of years. ***

The age of gaming advertorials.

Petebloodyonion2h ago

You're right all of this is just to promote Hellblade 2 and inflate the score.
Also the why cuts are indeed coming to Eurogamer and other UK branches because they only gave Starfield an average score.

Jingsing1h ago

Shed the non US assets that are not favorable to Xbox keep the US assets that are. Microsoft are going to deliver crap and they are going to tell you their crap is good and you are going to buy it. That seems to be the strategy. At this point I just want them out of gaming as they are operating like cancer.

victorMaje1h ago

Exactly right. No more journalists. Just 1 take regurgitated & paraphrased down the chain. Smh.
