We Love To Hate Eachother

You know...I was reading through comments today and I came across a certain N4G users comment and he said something like
"I hate this website". Yet he still comments on daily basis. Then I thought to myself, if he truely hated this website he would just go to another game news website or simply not read the comments.

Then I started thinking about why I spend more time reading the comments then the actual story, when it occured to me.
Being a Ps fan..If there were only sony fanboys on this website touting how the ps3 owns all and xbox sucks, and every news is good for sony and bad for xbox, I would be so extremely dulled out of my mind.

I think what keeps the comment sections so interesting for me, is to see how so many people can view a subject on so many differen't levels and have many differen't opinions.

And then the usual suspects come out to play.

The Xbox users of this website are overrun by the Sony users, so why don't they go to a news site where there are more xbox fans?

I think if we truely disliked the people we commented with on this website as many many people have stated, then we wouldn't come back. But we do. Every day. I think there is a part of each regular user on N4G who comes back eager to see what the opposing regulars can spin on the next news post. And their day wouldn't be complete, without viewing that complete objection or opinion.

Everyone disagrees with eachother so often it would seem as if you hated eachother sometimes, but I think it's why everyone comes back.

I guess what im trying to say is...In a very strange and obscure way, you don't hate eachother nor dread the fact that someone you disagree with all the time has just made an essay on a news article, but await it with some sort of pleasure and satisfaction as if it's all part of the enjoyment and experience and without it, it would seem much emptier.

If you can get your head around the weird crap im talking about..well.....Im sure it wont change a damn thing but I Just throught id try.

but I think the article doesn't make any sense. Eachother wtf is that ??

We love to argue this is what forums were designed for. I am a member of the Home website and the conversations on there are just plain boring it's nothing but speculation and people talking about how much they hate xbox. I personally own all 3 (360, ps3, wii). I like the exclusive games for each one and individually I like different things about each one from a hardware standpoint. I've never understood why the debates get so heated though, you like xbox and you like ps3, leave it at that. I enjoy the debate but I will never understand the necessity to side with one over the other. They all have something to offer.

This is one of the reasons i come here. I do enjoy seeing people argue with each other over anything. On occasion though during these arguments a god point or to is often made and that is fun also.

comments. I can't read the stories while I'm at work so I read some responses to find out what was said and gauge my reaction from it. I have been on N4G for quite a while and there are always certain people I look to for real constructive comments, other I may peruse.

The only problem is the people who actually take themselves seriously, and outright refuse to even consider that whatever it is they're supporting may have a weakness of some sort. It's sad, and I lose the will to argue with them because you just cannot get any sort of understanding from them.
I write this with a particular person in mind, but I won't say any names...

Or will I???
Genunine
!!!

If you want a tool to reduce the time it takes to make a product, AI is a tool to do that. If you want a tool to just make content for you, AI is a poor crutch for good writing and storytelling.

Vits13h ago(Edited 13h ago)

I don't disagree. However, good writing and storytelling in games are still pretty rare. Honestly, AI as it is right now could probably produce output similar to, if not better than, your average experience. Especially because the main issue I see being thrown around for its use is the generation of ludonarrative problems. But, we have literal GotY winners that are incarnations of ludonarrative problems and written by humans. So if specialists don't care, would the average player even notice?

That said, from the perspective of improving the craft, AI will undoubtedly do more harm than good if used for that.

Christopher13h ago

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying what we're getting out there right now is overall great from everyone. There are obviously a lot of bad writers out there. The problem is AI learning from bad writers. No thanks!

Time for AI to replace CEOS. That way, when it fails, as it inevitably will, there's no one to tell. The employees can continue to make games, get raises (no CEO bonuses), and there will no longer be bone headed decisions by id10Ts.

Christopher13h ago

Think how much easier it will be to fire an AI CEO than a real one! We've sacked Ocrulos AI CEO and will be replacing him with Kensho Technologies v3 CEO.

Honestly, that's the funny thing I find about AI. Is that it's the management and higher up positions that are the most perfectly replaceable positions with AI vs people at ground level.
