BF3; Rant on Teamwork

I've been playing BF3 since it released on ps3 and I have to say that finding a team, or even a squad that plays together is slim.
Just something I would like to talk about, I know some of you have been in this situation, you've exhausted all you're ammo and you look on you're mini map to find the closest person with ammo. So what do you do, you walk up hit select and ask for ammo, they ignore you, you get in front of them and hit select a dozen times and sometimes if you have pistol ammo you shoot them, they then just run off and die and soon you follow because of course you can't toss an empty pistol at the enemy.

Like needing ammo sometimes you need health and the same is also true, you hit select, they run, you both die. If you hear the request don't worry about who's calling just drop it, if you select these roles then you should play to those roles. I can't tell you how frustrating it is to have died just trying to get someone to drop ammo.

Use common sense people. If you are in a group of people in an area trying to hold the objective, drop some ammo or health, they shouldn't have to ask. I do this often, results, a lot of points.

Second point. Sometimes I may not be doing well, in that case I look at the person who has the most points and a lot of kills and follow them, apparently they know something I don't. Its so frustrating watching my team throw themselves into the meat grinder. There are generally multiple ways to get to your objective so there is no need to keep following the same route and dying.

I have had my share of games that i've pulled victory from defeat just by going an alternate way and most times its because i'm out gunned and can't hold the objective after I've planted that we lose. Sometimes I manage to get there plant and no one shows up and we would be in single ticket digits. Its like watching lemmings walk off a cliff sometimes.

Third, and this is very simple, if you have 5 or 6 of your teammates in a helicopter and you don't know how to drive, please leave the drivers seat so you don't kill half the team.

Just some common sense things when you play to help you and your team achieve victory.

1)Join a Squad, try to fill all the slots.

2)If you see your squad has 3 of the same class, pick something else.

3)If you see your 11 of your teammates siting in one area, you're being flanked.

4)If you're the last person in the squad, try to stay alive so they can spawn on you. also make sure you're in a position to be spawned on.

5)If you're leader use select to pick objectives so we can all maximize our points.

6) If you're sniping or if you see someone in general try to spot them as soon as possible to give someone else a chance to make the kill.

7)Stay close to the objective so if they do plant you can get there and disarm. However, sometimes it is necessary to take the fight to the enemy, as a general rule if I see less than six people close to the base I stay put.

In the end, play a support role with your team members. drop health and ammo anytime you think your team needs it, and sometimes i go the extra mile by blowing up things that block line of sight to the objective for others. example blowing up sheds and buildings housing the objective so snipers can stop planters. Just my 2 cents, I had more but like any rant it was just a spur of frustration which I felt like posting.

I think the teamwork in BF3 is actually really well done. Now you really can not rely on eveyrone on your team that's why you have your squad. Get your mic on and they usually listen trust me. BF3 was made with teamwork in mind. They score you on so many different aspects of the game such as suppressing fire, Repairing vehicles, healing teams but remember a lot of new people joined the battlefield series with battlefield 3 so not everyone has gotten the hang of it.

I play with a Dedicated squad myself of people I met during my games in battlefield and it's so much easier to communicate with people you already have been playing with for awhile. Because sadly not everyone is into teamwork.
On Bad Company 2 this was the same issue when the game first came out, then people got the hang of the game. Give people time and take into consideration of their ranks. Battlefield is not a easy game to get into, especially if you just switched from Cod. Which is a game I personally don't like because I find teamwork is not promoted or rewarded at all.

You can send me an add if you want on the PSN and we can squad up and I'll show you the differnce.
But don't bother adding me if you don't have a mic

The main issue I've had with BF3 on PS3 so far is the awful VOIP, I have a clan (well, more of a community really) that I play with most of the time I play BF3 but we can barely even converse with each other or point out anything to each other since everything just breaks up.

But I do agree, the few times I have played this online myself I have been mostly stuck with ineffective squads that do pretty much nothing, but really (and I guess sadly) I've just gotten used to it because nowadays whenever I play games online it seems quite rare to find people that care about playing a game the way it should be, or for doing anything useful for their team.

Too much of a hassle, I paid for a game that is focused on multiplayer but it still doesn't even work properly it's silly.

It really isn't too much of a hassle though :/ If you have a laptop, put your headset in there and skype with your buddies. Skype is clear, fast and great for clans incase you didnt know. Doesn't have a delay and shitty voip like bf3.

the most frustrating thing is playing as attackers while your whole team (or most of them) are snipers!!!

Thanks for the invite, I do have a mic, but I seldom use it because of the voice problems, honestly I can't tell if people hear me or not. I will add you the next time I'm on, thanks.

In the end I do think its an age thing. I remember that team play was more fun than just lone wolfing all the time. That's just from playing socom 2/3/3.5/3.8. There is trend for players to lone wolf now. I guess is just unlock that next rank, that next gun, that next, I'm better than you because look at all my achievements.

There were no points for playing as a team except victory. I remember being that guy to run out and sacrifice himself so our team sniper could kill the last guy for the win when I drew him out. But don't get me wrong I still kind of like call of duty I've played since 3 and then modern warfare, black ops was my last call of duty game, its just to much of the same thing and seems that everyone on my friends list now, that plays shooters, got MW3, go figure.

Hey guys can you help me with something?
I want to buy BF3 and I have a decent PC ( BF3 runs on all medium except one High, textures I think, at 30-50 fps)
But one of my best friends got it on the PS3,and it's highly unlikely that any of my others friends buys a good PC soon.
So PC,or PS3. The problems with PS3 are : only 24 players, worse performance and graphics, more expensive. But with the PS3 the teamwork part would be vastly improved.
So...PS3? PC? Help me please, this decision is pissing me off.

Statix4527d ago (Edited 4527d ago )

Graphics-wise, PC will be better. However, gameplay-wise, you're probably better off with the PS3 version, as teamwork and communication are vital to consistent success (and fun) in BF3.

Some will point out that the 64-player option on the PC makes it immediately superior gameplay-wise, but I disagree. I think 64 players is good if you're just f***ing around and looking for some chaotic action, but more players does NOT equate to better gameplay. To me, a smaller player count, like around 32 players or so, would be ideal for a more structured and competitive game. 64 players is just pure chaos, with everyone running around doing their own thing.

I was almost decided on the PC, now i'm unsure again, thanks a lot xD

such a shame, its my fav console by far. it was way better than ps1, problem was ps2 was due to come out, a year or so later, and many just waited for that, especially after the flop that was the Saturn,. (even though it way okay, it didn't sell well,).

ps1 did sell well, a lot of those fans waited for ps2. thus, the downfall of Dreamcast,,

I bought a DreamPi to play both Dreamcast and Saturn online! So far I'm only played with two people online with Saturn, and I need to spend more time with the Dreamcast community in order to play with them. I miss ChuChu Rocket online, good times!

P2P there's even Sega genisis games that still connect online based on this.

Hosted servers wasn't really something I saw regularly on non oc platforms until the 360 era.
