i think your a little ignorant on many levels, starting with the title, as long as sony sells 50 million units then even if they are in 3rd the system is a success, 2nd the ps3 doesnt need to out sell the 360 2:1- because the ps3 will be sonys system longer than microsoft plans on holding on the 360. also look at the cost to the manufacturer- sony isnt make much of a profit off of their console, but microsoft is still paying the billion dollar debt from the hardware failure epidemic. with the experience of developers growing, the ps3 will have just as many great titles as the 360 aside from exclusives. and biggest of all is the press and patronage. the press no longer slams the ps3 as a flop, especially after the release and massive success of mgs4. and people know sony, they know playstation, they know the name and they know the hardware works and will last. so regardless of what you think, in no way will sony be the biggest loser this gen.

hahaha, maybe your opinion, but completly untrue. I could say in a blog that i see Bill Gates in 2 years stopping Xbox franchise and makes games for PS3. You see, it's my "opinion". First I know this is opinion but "Sony" and "PS3" are not the same. The PS2 is still selling well...

If you want to talk install bases. Thats kinda a mute point anymore. They both have a large enough install base that 3rd party Dev's can't really afford to overlook either system. Unless one system has something that fits their goals much better i.e. BR or XBL...

I own all consoles bro and I do have a preference. I like my PS3 best mainly because I have more friends on PSN then XBL(Matter of fact I only had one on XBL and just canceled my sub cause it wasn't worth the money to me) I like my BR movies and other features that come stock with every PS3... Sales too me don't really matter and really shouldn't to any of us. If you like Gears get a 360 if you like MGS get a PS3... I just find for myself that I prefer games on PS3... I really like Gears and NG but what I like most is sitting down with my girl and playing Lego Star Wars or something Co-Op(On PS3 cause she likes that controller more) we are both stoked for LBP more then any other game this year... LBP will release and be great so sales could really matter for nothing to me...

Feel the way you want but I have replaced 2 360's. Currently the hard drive on my elite is faulty now and all the stupid people on the xbox hotline tell me is exactly what the website says in accents I can't understand while I sit there 90% of the time saying "What?" but it's not a RROD therefore not under warranty...

BTW this gen doesn't end in 2009. It should last til 2013 at the very least...

you assume that sony is worried about microsoft as much as you think.they're not.i'll give you a reason.

sony has lead the way in what is considered next generation.as sony stated"next gen doesn't start until we say it does."and it's true.when you look at 1080p for next gen tvs,hdmi for next gen tvs,hard drives being bigger,remote play from anywhere in the world with psp and bluray setting and winning the standard,they were right on the money each time.even with CELL processing.

microsoft has backpeddled by trying to patch and upgrade what sony was right all along with.but excuse it as choice or improving features that they once bagged sony for.

but as for system sales,microsoft is worried about sony.but sony is worried about hitting 100 million consoles in 10 years...AGAIN.they only care about selling 10 million consoles every year to get to that.they don't care about microsoft.they didn't care about locking up games like GTA4.you talk about sony being the big losers TOO EARLY in the console race.but neglect the fact that sony is outselling them each month.

yes,in america it's small.but in japan,it's by thousands each week.and after MGS4,it's something like 77,000 to 1500 consoles sold.we don't yet know what the sales in america or europe are to say.but when you have microsoft saying 5 million lead just a month ago,when it used to be 10 million,that should tell you something.and it will only get better for sony and worse for microsoft.microsoft will need a miracle.

it's not a race to 5 years,it's sales to reach 100 million in 10 years or less as what sony wants.the only thing microsoft is doing is pushing sony to unify the company to beat microsoft decisively.because microsoft is well past the ability to sell 10 million consoles a year.competition and fanbase for nintendo an sony prevents that.no matter how low 360's price goes.

all in all... The PS3 will end up in 3rd.
to be honest.... The line-up for the PS3 will never catch up to the 360's

The install base for the 360 is huge with a respectable ratio in software sales. The 360 ushered the nex-gen with features the PS3 is still catching up to. With the performance of 3rd parties delivering crappy products of multiplatform titles to the PS3, It's hard for me to even think about buying any other games except exclusives on the PS3.

The PS3 has lost this gen.

By the time PS3 even hits 20mill....the X-box will have a new system and microsoft will correct their mistakes.."RROD"

and I may get disagrees by the PS3 fanboys... but really.
I have it.. bought and payed by my OWN money.. (not mommy and daddy's money)..
The PS3 is gonna stay 3rd.

so currently... Blu-ray movies are still expensive..
so......my ps3 is still just an MGS4 player

Sony has literally in my eye lost its way. People ask why it relies on Final Fantasy to sell the system, well perhaps its because Sony has got itself into an impossible situation where it can not create games for the life of itself that can sell the system.

I've always said that those franchises would be a blessing but ultimately a curse, to the Sony brand. The Sony brand still to this day does not have an effective killer app- something made by Sony only which screams to every gamer all over "I will buy a playstation" such as the insanely hyped Halo or Gears of War.

I believe that Sony possibly theorized that this console war would be easy and they would just sit back and let all the talent come to them first and then they'd just collect the money.

Sony has learned the hard way that the world doesn't work that way and I think if Sony had any choice in this matter, they would drop Final Fantasy immediately and let it go multiplatform.

But it has not worked in this company's favor. Like it or not, the Sony brand can not give up Final Fantasy because they can not create a game still to this day that is as high selling as Final Fantasy or with that broad appeal.

Most of their efforts have been miserable failures, such as Dark Cloud and Folklore. Most of their teams can not duplicate the success of Fable. They are living in the past still, not the future. Final Fantasy is more popular than the entire playstation console anyway. It grew up on Nintendo, and everyone worldwide knows about it.

Looking at the reality of the situation it seems that somewhere Sony took a wrong turn. They ignored their developers, the very real calls for help with the struggles of next-gen development, and instead relied on this foolish promise that their brand would do the selling. Without Final Fantasy 13, the PS3 would be dead in the water.

Now as for the impact of this very real situation, why don't you look at this?

While the Final Fantasy trailers shown at TGS were extremely impressive, I was overwhelmed with a feeling of true depth in a game that I've never had before when I watched these trailers. Infinite Undiscovery and Star Ocean 4 for instance, touched deep into me in a way which really struck at my soul.

Nothing in the Final Fantasy trailer came close although it was still brilliantly executed. And for those who complain that Microsoft Japan is buying exclusives, why the hypocritical double-standard when it is Sony Japan who does the same thing?

I think anyone can admit here, that Sony purchased Metal Gear Solid 4 and four separate games of the RPG Final Fantasy 13. Otherwise they would have never gone exclusive. I think there's alot of fans of those games who have every right to be extremely upset about that, especially the underhanded way Sony rubbed it in their faces.

There are plenty of fans of those games or of the Valkyrie Profile games who would love to enjoy them on the 360 who won't touch Sony.

Now they'll never have a chance to, but who can blame them?

Sony has shown they have virtually nothing to truly be excited for that will embolden everyone besides Final Fantasy/Metal Gear. Most of their first party offerings have fallen flat on their face.

And no matter what anyone says a high selling franchise like that has to be fought. So no one can blame Microsoft for doing the same. They locked down Ninja Gaiden, Star Ocean and the amazing Infinite Undiscovery series to compete with Sony Japan-- And fight back with a vengence against the barrage of sales Final Fantasy and Persona 5 are likely to generate.

And they locked down Tales of Vesperia to fight back against them as well as the PS3 Bundle Special Edition Metal Gears in Japan. Its business period. I doubt the Fantasy series will sell as much as the older ones since its so outdated now. But it will still be these games against eachother, and MS is gaining the upper hand because they're now getting better at being noticed in the Japanese market.

Ultimately Atlus has put its strategy RPG games on 360 exclusively with no PS3 release planned remember. They are Operation Darkness, Spectral Force 3, and Zoids Assault. Those are all very good and won't be on PS3. Its definitely not Disgaea, which PS3 gets exclusively. But it is a big deal when you are the underdog in Japan. 360 will fight back ruthlessly in Japan to fully succeed in the market. That's what they are after and no one can blame them.

No one can blame Sony for the same thing in North America only if they were smart, they would give their developers the ability to create exclusive games which sell the system. First party games, RPGs made by Sony/SCEA which blow everyone away, Franchise Games.

Instead of forcing third party studios like S-E to create Final Fantasy after Fantasy, shoving them out the door on cellphones and even 360/pc, in order to somehow "prove" they can sell their system.

Sony has an internal problem of epic proportion. They need to humble themselves to recognize it instead of blaming the other, like MS. Or else it will haunt their console everywhere and cause them to lose nearly all their developers.

You cannot compare Xbox360 sales to PS3 sales. How many people out there have had to replace their Xbox360 due to RRoD? I have a mate who is a massive Xbox fan and he has replaced his Xbox360 twice so he has had a total of three xbox360s!
Also how many hardcore Xbox fans updated their original Xbox360 to an Xbox360 Elite to get the updated features?

I would have loved to see the sales of both consoles had they both been released on the same day. I think it would be a lot closer between Microsoft and Sony.

Sony has been in the gaming business for a long time, with start of PS1... they are at their 3rd console so think Microsoft is behind 1 and they are doing as of right now better... who knows what the Xbox 360 or whatever would be called be if they were in the consoles back with PS1... a lot better IMO, you have to take that into some consideration MS is fairly newer to this, SONY has been through the years.. they are doing pretty damn good for a 2nd console when SONY is on its 3rd.. wait till MS is on its 3rd while SONY will be a 4th..

but it does seem SONY has got the snowball rolling down the hill now, as it slowly becomes bigger

Since when, in overall software sales, thats all. Console sales were higher for the PS3 in the month of May (GTA4 came out 4/29) which means that the 360 did not come out on top. Regarding software sales in the first weak alone it sold less on PS3, but if you consider the install base more PS3 owners have a copy of GTA4 almost 2:1 according to NPD numbers relative to 360 GTA 4 owners.

Just like I said more PS3 owners have a copy of GTA 4 relative to the overall install base.
