That is complete crap by the EU.
Have they not seen the statistics for Firefox and Chrome etc. Sure, they are no where near that of IE but they still show that competition is around.
The avearage customer will not have any idea about different browsers etc, and this is largely because they dont want to. They just want to check their Hotmail or watch a few YouTube videos. "Competition" could never win over these customers because they just dont care about alternatives.
If IE wasnt bundled they would just buy Internet Explorer separately. They wouldnt choose an alternative because IE is a household name. Sure, it was a problem back in the day but nowadays most people would only recognise IE and say "Netscape who?"
People who are after specific things or actively seek out better will always do this of their own accord and that is why browsers such as Firefox and Chrome are very successful.
The EU are just tight on cash and are looking for someone to sponge off as per usual.
Besides, IE do a great job of promoting competition themselves...I mean have you used the latest version of IE? ;)
