What an idiot. Sony has offered more quirky indie titles than anybody else. Fl0w, Flower, Everyday Shooter? Oh I guess they hate the indie devs... View

My problem is that many, many people DO base their purchases off reviews. That is why game companies are so obsessed with getting an 80% or higher on Metacritic.

A bad review on a smaller title can more or less doom it to oblivion. A bad review on a larger title might not have much effect because they have huge ad campaigns going. But come on, Cross Edge and Class of Heroes has like zero advertising budget. They rely on reviewers to give them a fair shake.

My ultimate wish is that game reviewers would be upfront with how much of the game they played. Not all games need to be beaten to be given a fair review -- but readers should know how much the person played.

Sigh... not like that is gonna happen though.

Haha, honestly I'm a HUGE Sony fanboy. I have a freaking PS2 tattoo!

But I was massively disappointed with the Sixaxis. I know it wasn't Sony's fault that it didn't have rumble, but that doesn't change the fact. Rumble is a massive deal, imo -- especially if you're into racing games or shooters. Playing CoD4 on the PS3 is way less tactile and immersive compared to playing it on the 360.

Sony additionally gets dinged on the Sixaxis because of how horrible and arrogant their arguments were. "Oh rumble and motion can't work together" "Pfft, nobody wants rumble -- it's last gen technology. People want motion controls!"

But yeah, its a solid argument to say the Xbox 1 controller should be up there too. Damn that thing was a beast.

Yeah, it's a shame. I had high hopes for it, but it's just too esoteric and complex for the general public. If you check it out in the review though, Nick says that personally he enjoyed it more than a 6.5 -- but he's super into crazy JRPGs in a way that isn't healthy. :D

Yeah, if the PSP2 rumor is true and it's coming out later this year, having devs getting used to the idea of trophies right now would be a good idea. The article lists a good number of newer PSP games that support some kind of trophies/achievements too. Guess we'll see... View

I didn't talk about Ps1 titles on the list, but that is definitely a fantastic game! View

Yeah, the demo for Elefunk was worthless because you need to learn so much to properly enjoy it. It's a HUGE knock against the game, but its great fun if you can overcome the difficulty curve.

GripShift is quite worth playing IMO, as long as you know what you're going in for. It's not a racing game really and driving controls are loose, but if you look at it as an action puzzle game its great fun! View

Yeah, I love all those games you mentioned. I figured they were already well respected and popular though so I focused on some of the lesser known titles. I loooove Burnout PSN though -- so great. View

Yeah the new patch is really nice. It's still a pretty darn hard game, but saves you money on broken controllers. View

Actually their official stance right now is PC only, and if it does well both PS3/360.

I totally agree with you there. Like I said in the above response though, the point is not that these games sucked. But that a single bad game could destroy two established developer studios.

Both studios appear to have major issues adapting to the more complex architecture of the PS3 (see the massive delays and horrific LAIR motion controls). So there is a reasonable chance that the cost of learning and adapting to the PS3's architecture represents such an investment that a small studio is possibly at risk when trying to develop a big budget title for the PS3.

Remember that nobody starts out with the goal to make a bad game...

The point to my article is that normally it just doesn't take one single crappy game to destroy a well established developer studio. Both of these games faced massive delays that can almost purely be pointed at as an issue with them getting to terms with the PS3 hardware. Especially in the case of LAIR, where they caved to Sony's pressure to make a 1080p game with SIXAXIS controls.

And I know that people will accuse me of being a anti-ps3 fanboy. But... I have two PS3s, two PSPs, and actually no other system. I love the PS3, but I think its foolish to not contemplate this as a serious issue.

But everybody is entitled to their own opinion. I just think its a worthy topic to think about.

Haha, you really think I cut and pasted one word? Even I'm not that lazy.

Clearly you just heard the word for the first time recently, but some of us have had it in our vocabulary for a long time. ;)
