Why the PS3 slim may win the console war for sony....
121 days 1 hour ago | by: Coolrah
I usually try to shy away from this kind of post but this is just too much of an impact to ignore.

So everyone who goes on N4G knows that sony announced the Ps3 Slim at $300 dollars and dropped the price of all other current ps3 models to 300$. Now sony did deliver on their price drop but they also added a new SKU. Normally a cheaper SKU means less features and yes the PS3 Slim is lacking features such as BC and the ability to install OS's. But honestly that was the right move as most gamers didn't really need those features and a Ps2 can be bought for 100-50 dollars. So sony in my opinion made a really smart move in getting rid of features not widely used but also keeping the core features that really make the Ps3 shine. Such as Blu ray and the amazing media capalbilities. And to top it all off sony even added an updated faster Cell ship to even give more of a incentive to cash in on this great deal.

Microsoft will probaly respond by dropping prices on its models but seeing as how most people can just get an arcade for 200$ it makes no sense in buying the moar expensive model. We have to wait and see to see how this affects NPD and other country sales charts. There will most likely be an major increase in ps3 sales due to this price cut but the real kicker is if this will last for a long period of time.

Now I personally think that this may win the console war for sony.(Or atleast beat the 360) Well for 1 thing a price cut always increases sales numbers. Although I think this one is just a perfect buy. For 1 you get a next gen console with a better chip that current models, You get a blu ray player(Some players are still around the 250$ mark), and you get an excellent media hub. And all for 300$........And the great thing for Ps3's is that you don't have to buy a whole bunch of accessories or services to make it even better unlike the 360. All of this will undoubtley help the ps3. We also have to consider how the media has been affecting the ps3 sales. Its not even the bashing that affected it. It was the constant mention of "PRICE CUT PRICE CUT" This I know kept alot of people on the fence about buying a ps3 as most people didn't like the high price and welcomed a price cut as a recession was eating away at our pockets. Now that its happen I think we will see a surge of Ps3's being bought. This plus all the new game releases will definitely help Sony and I think this was the perfect time for it. I mean if your a smart consumer and your a gamer then this just seems like an offer you can't pass up.

For the record this is just pure speculation as to what will happen. I may be completely wrong so fanboys please reframe from the pointless drivel and whining comments.

1 - Again?
We honestly don't need another one of these. Yes the Slim is going to have an impact, but we don't need another small blog stating this out.

This is well written though, just follows the beaten path a bit too much.

1.1 - I feel you
There are alot of these but most of the news one delve into mindless fanboy drivel so its kind of hard to have a "conversation" on there without haveing to subject yourself to immature little kids and grownups who are insecure about another persons purchase.

Thanks for the healthy criticism and bubbles for your maturity sir :)

6 - No b/c is the biggest reason I don't own one
I realize I'm just one person, but every time I've considered going out and putting down money for a PS3 the one thing that stops me is that all current generation models are lacking in backwards compatibility. Sure, I could just keep my PS2 around for those few games I have, but I don't want yet another device sitting in my living room taking up space. Yes, I know the original PS3 did have b/c, but back then it was the price that held me back. If I could get a PS3 for $299 that would also play my PS2 games, I'd most likely have one right now. But alas....
