Game worth playing.

The sequel, not so much. View

Why does it have to be just Gamertags? Sounds like free MS advertising to me... and you know they have the cash to pay for their own ads.

And whatever happened to "Screen Names" and "Handles".

I choose Edge of Blade (XBL) and EdgeOfBlade (PSN) as part of a natural progression. I used to go by Diamond Blade until I was rejected for a clan membership in a game, owing to a bad outing. I changed my name to Edge of Blade, retook the tryout, and killed it.

It's also a clean, unique name, without extraneous characters or numbers. View

I know all too well the soul crushing disappointment of a grandparent that doesn't get it. But this is a chance to do something nice for your grandparents.

Get the game anyway and put it in the case they got, then bring it over and have them watch you playing it. Not online, of course; your grandparents probably think you an internet for fishing.

They will get to see you gunning down innocent air travelers in Russia. That will probably hasten their otherwise slow march to the coffin. See? Something nice for grandma... View

Let me make it simple for you:

If you are a PS3 fanboy, the 360 has a 99.9% failure rate, and anyone who has a working Xbox must be the .1%, though you aren't sure the Xbox 360 sold even a thousand units so the .1% is even a whole person.

If you are a 360 fanboy, the 360 failure rate within 3 years in 0% because if Microsoft replaces it, it doesn't count.

I'm inclined to believe that more older boxes will fail, Microsoft will still replace them, people will still curse Microsoft's name, and the world will keep on gaming. So, enough with the crusade against the evil capitalist Microsoft.

In the meantime, please tell me of another company that bent over backwards at a more obtuse angle to fix the issue. We are talking BILLIONS spent on replacing MILLIONS of Xboxes. I don't want to whitewash the issue, but people are pretty ungrateful for Microsoft's efforts to deal with this situation. It's about time everyone got over it. Especially anyone whose comment got deleted. I'm sure there was a great reason, and I would have loved to read what you had to say... View

Thank you Saaking for stating the obvious. This is a win for PS3 owners. Thankfully I own all three consoles, so anything is a win for me.

Please stop spewing your biased PS3 crap. They had a damn good year... does it still have to be about this partisan bullshit?

Bioshock was everyone's token "creative" fps. It had a few good ideas, but the Big Daddy concept was just so... imbalanced. Wail on him, die, wail on him, die, wail on him, kill him, lose track of sister, wail on him, die.... you get the picture. View

MGS4: The microwave tunnel was... ehh... ok. There were better parts of the game to look at... like the fight between two Metal Gears, or the fight on top of the sub. You know... parts that had real gameplay to hold them up, rather than overwrought Snake nuking. View

If you think the 360 flopped, then you need to put the PS3 right next to it. I honestly think neither deserves to be on this list, but don't let that stop you from earning that paycheck from Sony's marketing division.

@Apocalypse Shadow: The bias is unbearable. PS3 copied Xbox Live Achievements... and they even did it poorly. Plus, they had a whole year to implement their trophies to launch with the system, and 5they failed to. Meanwhile, Achievements still ranks as one of the top reasons to choose a multiplatform game for 360 over PS3.

"and HD-DVD failed because 360 gamers didn't buy into microsoft's sh!t that it was better than bluray. "

^ that is one of the biggest misconceptions about the format war... and the biggest sign you are just a Sony mouthpiece. And worse, a misinformed one. Blu-ray was Sony's technology. HDDVD did not belong to Microsoft in the same way. They were positioned COMPLETELY differently. Sony leveraged their position effectively, winning the format war with PS3. Meanwhile, Microsoft was not in a position to leverage HDDVD in the same way. If this was a Toshiba technology, for example, they would have both backed Blu-ray and been better off for it. But that's not the case, so it isn't an apples to apples comparison like you seem to think it is.

I'm sure you didn't think about it that much. Nor should I expect you to... View

...right. Film grain, good. Clear picture, bad.

This is why I hate AV nerds. I like HD as much as anyone, but when you are skewing the features that make an image pop, like dejudder, you know you have been listening to some principled asshole who thinks his ideals of a "preserved" image trump what actually looks good.

I went through the same thing as Bravo. I got my Battlestar Galactica Blu-ray set, and the first thing I saw was a disclaimer that the film grain was an "artistic" inclusion.

F**k that. I want a clean, crisp image without all this artistic bullshit. Whatever happened to the battle cry of "all digital"? Now we are converting analog film to HD disks? I think we should demand better than "authenticity". View

If they think Vista was a bigger flop than Windows ME, they must not have used ME. It was a nightmare. View

Profit should still be the defining factor. If you would allow me to oversimplify, you spend $60 million on making the game, and you sell a million (at $60 each), you break even. That's not a success. If you spend $500,000 and you sell a million, that's a huge success.

We have this concept of best that only serves the backwards logic of fanboys, but the reality of the situation is very different. We don't need to inflate the "success number" to exclude deserving games.

I've said this before: the problem with the game industry is NOT fanboys. It's hateboys. View

True. Halo is immensely important to Xbox.

I love Halo. It did a lot to define MY decade of gaming...

BUT I'm not about to claim it's the most important game in a DECADE. I think it did some important things and brought some important innovations to the genre, and it might be the most important if you want to look at total sales of the entire series. But I'm not about to pretend it satisfies all the potential measures of "most important", and I would never in a thousand years expect everyone to agree either way. View

Honestly, I'm not so sure there is a viable "Best" criteria here. They both look great in some ways that the other comes up a hair short.

Of course, those with a bias towards the incumbent GT series will probably continue their pigheaded drive.

I, on the other hand, secure in the fact that I HATE simulation driving games, care not... View

It has an HD player. It's just not Blu-ray. And no, I'm not talking about the HD-DVD drive. That's just dead in the water. I'm talking about the 1080p, instant-on streaming.

Which works. Believe it or not. View

Ok, so Sony selling more than Microsoft for a handful of months is cause for dancing in the street, but Microsoft's success invokes reminders of how far in the hole they are?

Let's start talking about how Sony squandered their amazing profits from PS1 and PS2 developing a septuple-core processor that most developers without a red-telephone-hotline to Sony have trouble with? They are aren't exactly in the black either. View

Agree w/Remember:

No need to bash the PS3 on this. As long as Sony can maintain their humility and not stumble headlong into a pit again, I look forward to seeing what they accomplish. It's not about who wins and loses... it's about a healthy market and gaming ecosystem. View

Commercial betas do nothing to help the game, bug-wise.

People talk about how MW2 should have had a beta. Oh it did... an internal beta with a handful of people. Not the unwashed masses. And at the same time, who's to say that the people who find the best hacks are going to share and get them patched? Isn't it to their advantage to find a glitch and be the only one who knows how to exploit it? View

Just more hate for a good game.

And what's wrong with being "noob friendly"? Not everyone is a super-human pro-gamer. Do you really want to whittle the market down until it's just one person who is the most uber-hardcore?

Think of it this way: without being noob friendly, who is there to shoot? Do you really want to exclude the people who are worse than you? View

I have my doubts about the validity of the whole thing. I mean... ALL the categories were decided in an ONLINE POLL! You know for a fact that fanboys love to game those polls to validate their beliefs.

I'm not going to diminish UC2's achievement (err...trophy), but how do we know game studios aren't stuffing the ballot box?

And how the hell did Batman end up with such a prominent placement. It was good... but not as good as these awards would indicate. View

Funny how people don't seem to get it. This software development stuff.

MW2 is a very popular game, so there are MILLIONS of people analyzing the game, looking for any cheat. I might grant that many of these glitches could have been avoided, but come on. Do you really think a public "beta" would have helped? You know people who get into betas are more interested in bragging about that fact than they are about helping test the game. And who's to say an enterprising young glitcher is going to share all his tricks with the world? View
