Why do some people try and kill any form of competition?

Killing of competition is bad for any market. The results are : higher prices for parts and service, lower quality of the overall product(no competition = no need to be better than others, as there are no others)

I rather see two incompatible Platforms compete with each other and drive the quality up to gain more customers each, then a monopolistic single-console world where innovation and progress is dead because of lack of competition. View

Why does the author write "The QPACEs Intel PowerXCell processors"?

Intel ?

I mean seriousely, how could he put the core competitor to IBM there by error. Thats like a report about Adam Smith's "The wealth of Nations" telling people its a book about communism ...

And honestly, Playstation3 as channel is rather farfetched View

@Perkel: Sony never reported "Sold to customer", Sony only reports "Sold" to the shareholders, and "sold" for a manufacturer equals "sold to retail" or "shipped"

All 3 Console makers report the SAME number, Microsoft reports "shipped" as in shipped to retail, 'Nintendo reports shipped as in shipped to retail and Sony also reports shipped as in sold to retail. Sony formerly reported "shipped" as in shipped from the factory to the warehouse but changed that reporting to the more cashflow oriented Sony->Retail one. And to avoid any mixup with the old numbers they named it "sold" to differentiate from the old "shipped"

Neither Sony nor Nintendo, nor Microsoft, nor the CIA nor the Illuminati know how many Systems have sold to CUSTOMERS. All consumer sales data is estimates. And for a financial report you do NOT estimate, you count. And the only thing you can count is how many systems you sold to the retail chains. For shareholders that is the important number, cause manufacturers make the money upon selling their wares to the retail chain, NOT when the shop sells it to the customer. View

Sorry, but i am rather underwhelmed... only 15 or so HD rentals with STEREO sound. The buy option is worse: SD downloads at €15 for a low quality SD movie lacking 5.1 sound and all extras that can be bought for 9.99 as Full DVD at any retailer ...

Either the prices and sound quality change A LOT, or i will opt out completely. View

Only problem with that idea is, that its a DVBT Receiver. So it only receives OverAir broadcasts. It can NOT receive cable or satellite signals. And the US currently has about 0.000000000001% coverage of overair digital signals.

So you CAN buy the box, but lacking any channels to record i fail to see the value for the US-American market, especially as the digital overair transmit plan has been put on the backburner now because of the financial crisis. View

"34 (shipped !), where ? "

Sounds perfectly normal to me considering that all manufacturers sell their goods to the retail chains and report that number as SOLD (to retail) for their financial reports. Which is right as they SOLD the item and got the money for it already. It's pointless for the financial reports whether the retail chains sold all the stock or not. In the long run shipped = sold to customer as retail chains only backorder stuff when the previous shipment gets low on stock.

Hence MS "sold" reportedly 34 mil units of their Xbox360 while Sony reportedly "sold" 27 mil of the PS3. View

The only thing i did not like about R2 was the missing online and local(splitscreen) STORY co-op mode. The online co-op is fun for a while, but then it starts getting mighty repetitive as the same 10 or so objectives get triggered time and time again. Also you need at least 3 people to have a realistic chance with most of the co-op missions. View

Nice look, but a real designer would have taken the SD requirement into his designs. Form follows function, rule one in design of USABLE stuff.

- does not fit on an SD screen
- load times for the trophys of all my friends would be horrid

This sits on the same level as these pointless Diablo3 screenshot filter nerds. Only touched up for the looks, never wasted a second thought that someone is actually gonna have to USE this. View
