If these 360 failure rates were "so extreme" like alot of people keep making out, then Microsoft would be FORCED to issue a recall of all launch units or infact all the units ever manufactured.
As we can see that no recall has been issued, then this means several things...
-the problem is not huge and has been acknowledged, and a fix is being developed (or is complete)
-the prolem is deliberately not being acknowledged and Microsoft want all your repair charge costs!
-Or the problem is isolated, so the problem can be sorted and no recall is needed.
Whatever the situation, Microsoft doesn't want to keep manufacturing 360's that are going to fail, it would be in their best interest to sort the problem so that they don't get such a bad reputation in the console gaming arena.
But remember, many 360 replacements sent to unlucky gamers are refurbished units as can been seen in the serial number. I had my 360 fail on me in January 30th 2007 (bought console at launch Dec 2nd UK). Got sent a refurb that was made in October 20th 2005! Then that broke down--well i was hardly surprised!
