can I just say that this demo for Kroll was cobbled together in just two weeks, expect the finished game to look much much better. View

I'd argue that the Wii and the DS both have plenty of games that have excellent graphics.

It's not just about pushing the envelope in terms of how much is going on onscreen and how shiny it all is, it's about how well realized the visuals are. Just look at something like Wii Sports, they serve the action perfectly, I wouldn't change a thing. Same with New Super Mario Bros. Good graphics does not just mean the latest greatest FPS game.

It's all about using a game's visual language to communicate the other aspects of the game effectively. That's the point I was trying to make in the original article. View

There is no escaping the fact the games are a visual medium and often the visuals are key to communicating other aspects such as gameplay and story.

I would never not play a game because I didn't think it looked impressive enough, and I agree that arcane details about the graphical nuances of console games have become an annoying yardstick by which everything is unequivocally judged, but at the same time, there is no denying that good graphics are a key aspect of any great game. I don't know how many times I have read this same weary line of editorial.

The 360 is not dead it isn't going anywhere, get used to it. Even if the PS3 does surpass it in sales, it doesn't mean the 360 is out of the picture. Microsoft will continue to be a significant player in the games market even if they are not leading the charge and there is no shame in that, especially when you are making tons of cash in the process.

Also, if you can afford it, why not just own both? View

This will be a bigger flop than haze mark my words. It's a shame because a game about futuristic vikings with endless levels of customization and an epic plot all powered by the unreal 3 engine really ought to be good.

Innocent until proven guilty and all that but things are looking grim for this game. View

I don't care how much depth this game supposedly has, it looks horrible.

It barely surpasses the visuals of an XBLA game and considering this has been ten years in development, I think Microsoft is going to feel a little short changed.

This is one trilogy that is unlikely to ever be finished if you ask me. View

What the PSP needs is wireless access to the PSP store with a much bigger catalogue of free demos, cheap PS1 conversions and budget downloadable versions of PSP classics (similar to what has been done with Wipeout Pure and Killzone Liberation).

Besides that, Sony needs to convince some third party developers that the machine is not such a big risk. Sony's first party line up for the PSP is exceptional (God of War, Patapon, Ratchet and Clank, Wipeout Pulse etc) but the big third party releases are slowing down and if SOny isn't careful, the PSP could end up doing a Gamecube.

Which would be a shame as its a great little machine. A price cut and better digital delivery could really give the PSP the boost it needs. View

I can't download it yet either. I hope this gets fixed as I would never have bothered downloading that game if it weren't for the Beta. Fingers crossed. View

It's funny, I was thinking about this just the other day.

I think if they took it in a sort of rogue squadron direction with polished visuals and some tightly integrated Wii controls it would be great. It might sound lazy but I would certainly buy it. View

When I see what PCs can do, just a year after the laucch of next generation consoles, I start to get itchy feet.

Don't get me wrong, I love the current three consoles and I expect to get loads of fun out of them all over the next few years, but by 2011 I will be more than ready for a new console.

Most adults with a modest amount of expendable cash probably don't see this as a problem, and in an industry like gaming where the technology moves really quickly I want to be up to date without having to pay for a high end PC every 18 months.

Just look at some of Nvidia's most recent tech demos. They make Crisis look like something a five year old drew and even that game (running at its highest settings) is not possible on any of the current next-gen consoles.

It's called progress people and 5-6 years is far from a rip off lifespan for a console in my eyes. View

I have to say that though I am fully prepared to believe that MGS 4 is probably the best game to be released this generation, I think this review over eggs the pudding somewhat.

"Playing Metal Gear Solid 4 changes you, it is like the path to enlightenment, as you embark on it you see the world around you change, morph and twist. But it is not the world that is changing, only your perception of it, because as you close in on nirvana your mind changes, it evolves and with it so does your view on the surrounding universe."

Surely even the most hardcore PS3 fanboys would find it hard not to cringe at that just a little bit? View

Is all this content available on the European Nintendo channel too? Don't have a Wii yet and would really like to know. View

Though it obviously doesn't have the same visual polish, I think this is going to be a far superior game to Killzone 2. That seperate 8 player co-op mode with a unique story of its own is the real clincher for me, that is some serious extra content and really adds to the package as a whole.

I also think that story and universe wise that resistance is just a bit more interesting. It looks like great fun too, if there is a game that has me interested in finally getting a PS3 its Res 2 much more than the killzone 2. View

Also, I agree all this stuff about consoles and services apparently dying right left and center is getting hard to put up with.

Let's be more ruthless with those reports people, hyperbole has no place in serious journalism (though it seems that fewer and fewer serious journalists have a place in gaming sadly). View

*pulls on fanboy strength magic sarcasm cape*

Yes you are right, people buying the Wii is a perfect allegory for humanity's lack of progress as a species. Oh and double yes, humanity has gone nowhere since the industrial revolution.

*takes off cape*

Now go and crawl back under you stone, you insipid, brainless, joyless fool!

The Wii is a great console, a cultural high water mark almost as strong as the iPod or the Gameboy. It may not be for you, but that does not mean that the people buying it are somehow idiotic for doing so. Everyone I know who owns a Wii gets more than enough enjoyment out of it to justify its place in the living room and there's nothing wrong with that.

These people may not play it as rigorously as others play their PS3 or 360, but then many Wii owners aren't interested in gaming as a full time hobby, just as an occasional fancy. If it gets more people acquainted with the medium, then great.

As for the remark about the industrial revolution, how about the power of flight, space travel, the dawn of the information age, the internet etc. View

Erm...

We haven't heard much about Gangs of London on the PS3 lately either, does that 'confirm' that it's coming to the 360 then?

What a nonsense leap of faith article this is. View

Well according to Wiki, Gearbox has done the following:

"Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30, Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood, Halo: Combat Evolved for PC, and the Half-Life expansion packs Opposing Force and Blue Shift."

So hopefully we don't need to worry about this being anything less than fantastic. I have high hopes pinned on this, I really hope Gearbox delivers. View
