Are exclusives becoming elusive? Has the war in gaming "changed"?

"War has changed!". This can be heard throughout the gaming world, made famous by a game character who many will call their favorite. But the statement was implemented by Team Kojima, of whom decided to keep the game exclusive to PS3. Was there reasoning for this, other than the franchise being exclusive? Are we in a new age, where the war on gaming has changed?
Definitely yes! In this time, the gaming industry is expanding rapidly and (for some devs) the revenue is so much greater when there product is non-exclusive. It's sort of like us tripping over our own foot: Gamers would love for their favorite games to be 'loyal' to the console they own, whereas, Devs are mostly about developing games, getting it out there in the gaming world( presumingly in mass amounts). And lets be honest: If you were in they shoes, wouldn't you want your game to attract millions? These are the days that lie before us. A age where nothing is 'guarantee exclusive'.
Back in the day, there were fewer options. You had Sega and Nintendo. Either the game was meant for Sega for the technology the console possess, or the game was meant for Nintendo for the same reason. There was no need for major exclusivity, just as long as the first party remains loyal. Not to mention, each system had it's own 'characteristics' of which wheeled in cosumers. Sega was the gritty, grown up system that could deliver 'mature' material, and Nintendo was the more family-friendly, artsy system that anyone could enjoy.
Today, gaming consoles are so much more versatile, capable of producing many types of entertainment: movie's, video's, internet access, music, photos, oh, and how could we forget gaming...?. Gamers would love to have their favorite franchise stay 'loyal' to the console they own. And devs would like for hard work(video game) to be noticed, whether it's exclusive or not. Exclusivity is less of a concern to devs, being that they have so much on their plate(making games, getting them published, making sure their operable, etc). The last thing they would do is cancel a project due to it not appearing on certain consoles. Us, as the gamers, only have one obligation, and that's to our heart. Our love for the game, the art, the fun we induced, should no longer be segregated. Unfortunately, it will come at a cost. If you love a title which is exclusive(most likely only first party games, I give it 3-5 more years ), then you will have to obtain what you don't have, which will be the opposing system. Yes, this is the unfortunate truth. But it's not a lost, but a graduation. You see, there was a day where games were considered to be 'for kids', but now the medium has expanded so far that games can pretty much sell by themselves, to anyone who's interested: kids, teens, adults, or anyone looking for something entertaining. My co-worker had purchased a PS3 (his first console ever) only because he found out there's a Basketball game that allows him to design his own baller. And you know what, he loves it, and while he can't get enough of playing, that was a system sold. You see, people are not buying consoles just because 'they love video games', but because it kills time, looks interesting, or simply because it's an enjoyabe entertainment. The audience is much broader Today than ever, love it or hate it. Yes, games have become much more mainstream, but that just means that it's no longer underground, which could be good. Now the world can experience and enjoy great games, something most of us have a 10+ head start on. It's attracting a larger fanbase for gamers, and soon it won't be about the games, but more about the consumer in a whole and the demand at hard.
