Same Story as 2008
Around this time last year, everyone was saying MS has nothing to show for 2008, that the Xbox 360 was toast, and that 2008 would be the "year of the PS3." We all know how that turned out.

Microsoft isn't going to just drop the ball with one of the better products they have. At this point, I think it's safe to say that they know what they are doing. So how about we just wait and see? View

"The only reason why people are not yet giving the PS3 its due props this generation is because it's still early."

We're already at least halfway through this generation (the next consoles will likely be released within the next 2.5 years). When is it not going to be too early to judge? As soon as the numbers pick up, if they ever do? View

I disagree
I don't think the PS3 will ever hit the PS2's numbers. It tried to be too many things, ended up being too expensive initially, and it hurt the brand. View

Better, but not best
The PS3 has definitely gotten better in terms of what it offers, especially in terms of games, for the price. I'm not sure if it will make second place for this generation or not, but one thing is for sure - the PS3 will never hit PS2 numbers.

Blu-ray is still many years away from being something that most consumers are interested in, and the PS3 is no longer the cheapest BRD player, something that helped propel it where it's at today.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the next generation of consoles, and how the timing will work with the other companies. Nintendo shouldn't release a new console for a while now - they don't need to, as people are still buying the Wii in crazy numbers. Microsoft will probably try to beat Sony to the punch again, but they will only succeed if their newer system is backward compatible and affordable. They also don't want to beat Sony to the next gen by too early a margin.

Anyway, I went off on a tangent there. Ultimately, I don't believe that the PS3 will be remembered as the "best console ever," and I don't think much will change from now to the end of this generation. View

Pointless
I know the system has gotten a few much needed price cuts already, but I really don't think they want or need to add an expensive peripheral to a system which many already think is (or was) too expensive to begin with. View

...you've never even played this game, and you're already fantasizing about spending our weekend with it?

Now I've seen it all. View

"People need to know about this game and know they will."

How much of that £2 million will go towards planting people on websites like N4G to promote the game? View

Closing down studios does not always mean that the people who were in them are let go. Oftentimes, dissolving a studio can bring some of the talented people from that studio into the fold of another, larger (and more capable) team.

I have no idea what Microsoft is doing with the people from these studios, but we're living in tough times, so I expect everyone to tighten things up. View

Hey, I never said the game wasn't fun. I played through it more than a few times myself as well, and a friend of mine and I had a lot of good laughs running around destroying stuff.

But throughout, the whole thing felt a lot like a game that could have been a lot more, and was just rushed out so Microsoft / Bungie could charge for the Halo 3 beta. Looking back, it certainly wasn't worth $60, especially when games with ten times the content, like Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts are hitting the shelves at $40.

So perhaps I should have said "the only reason why most people own Crackdown" or "the only reason why most people even know what Crackdown is." View

Microsoft is closing development studios down now? Which ones would those be? View

"i think developers are tired of the microsoft console and they are ready to develop beyond"

What is your basis for thinking this? It must be really easy to talk about the game development industry when you can just make up your own facts, huh? View

One of Xbox 360's biggest exclusives?
I stopped reading at the first line: "One of Microsoft's biggest third-party exclusives was Crackdown"

Yeah, right.

I love the Xbox 360, and had a few fun hours with Crackdown, but let's be real here. We all know that the only reason why anyone owns Crackdown is because it came with the Halo 3 beta. Anyone who believes otherwise is either a troll or a complete idiot. View

You guys said the same thing about the Xbox in 2008 - that it had no good games going into the year, and that 2008 was going to be the "year of the PS3."

We all know how that went - Xbox world-wide sold more than PS3, and did monumentally better in North America. View

The PS3 came out a year later, but the technology inside it (aside from the Cell and BRD) was virtually the same as the Xbox.

Why?

Because Sony waited a year for BRD to be ready, and including BRD in the PS3 made the box so expensive that they had to use older tech for the rest - including the GPU. Look at the specs for both systems and you'll see. Graphics processing power is nearly identical. View

What a load
This article is nothing but garbage. The GPU's used in both systems are nearly identical in power. It is virtually impossible for the PS3 or the 360 to out-do the other graphically because of this.

The PS3 might have been able to come out with a better graphic card if Sony had not opted to include the expensive Blu-Ray drives in each system, but hey, that's a trade-off that many of you seem to have liked, so who am I to say that this was a mistake. View

If Microsoft learned anything this generation, it's that putting out the most advanced hardware at the highest price just doesn't cut it anymore. View

I don't think any of them will under-perform this year. - video games is one of the few markets in the US which isn't being affected so much by the poor economy. View

UT3 is fun, I've got it on PC, but I'm not sure how well the gameplay translates to consoles (unless you're playing with a mouse). It's too bad that the UT franchise is slowing down so much with Epic's focus on consoles, but I guess that's just the way it goes. View
