I'm not going anywhere
Neither is any console for that matter.
All 3 can co-exist.
That's a good thing for everyone.

On topic: I'm happy for Sony and everyone who just purchased a PS3...you won't regret it. View

I'll play analyst for a second
I predict MS will give Xbox 360 arcades away for FREE but you'll have to sign up for Xbox Live Platinum. XBL platinum will cost $150 a year and you'll have to sign a two year contract. That's not too bad considering it's only 41 cents a day. View

I thought the 360 was the one with Netflix
I thought PS3 was the one with awesome exclusives this year like Killzone 2, and inFamous. I thought the PS3 was the one 32, 40, 62, 256 player multiplayer games with no lag.

Was I wrong?

Of course not. I'm common sense. You should listen to me once in a while. View

The PS3 is the technically superior console
The Cell > Xenon.
RSX > Xenos.
XDR > GDDR3.
Blu-ray > DVD.

Just because the PS3 is the technically superior console doesn't mean the 360 can't push some awesome graphics. Technology is always improving and newer more advanced products come out all the time and that's just the nature of things. Now MS is going to release a more powerful console in the near future and Sony will reciprocate. This fosters competition and innovation. But guess what? In the end, we win. View

I'll tell you why
because the Wii is MUCH bigger success than both the Xbox 360 and PS3, at least from Microsoft's point of view. They tried to follow Sony's business model last gen by getting JRPGs and 3rd party developer support and then saw Nintendo raking in massive profits this gen so they're now going to emulate Nintendo's business model.

It's all about $$. View

Sofresh, you called?
Don't worry guys, a price cut is coming. It's a matter of when not if.

Everyone also seems to forget that the PS3 is also a prototype of a sort for the PS4. I can almost guarantee the PS4 will be very identical to the PS3 and will launch at lower price.

Come on guys, think about it. Do you really think Sony would invest billions on tech that would be useless next gen?

The PS4 will most certainly use a Blu-ray drive, a vastly improved and more powerful version of the Cell and XDR ram.

Rambus has a new XDR ram called XDR2 which will probably power the PS4. http://www.rambus.com/us/pr...

Warning: Do not click link before getting a fresh pair of pants because if you're a technophile, you will have a nerdgasm of epic proportions.

As you all know, IBM has more powerful cell processors already and pioneer has 400GB Blu-Ray discs.

The only thing the PS4 needs is a graphics card. They can just get a cheap one of the counter anyway.

Anyway my point is that Sony won't have to spend any money on PS4 R&D because they'll be using more advanced PS3 tech.

Not only will the PS4 be able to launch at an incredibly lower price, game development will be easier if Sony uses the Cell again. Game developers with Ps3 experience will basically just sit back and let the games develop themselves and they'll all start to look like Gabe Newell.

Essentially, all the loses made on the Ps3 will be made up with the PS4. Mark my words.

Aside: I wish SCE were a separate company from SONY because I understand SCE's strategy and I would make a killing in the stock market. View

Cherrypie
The PS3 is significantly more powerful.
According to IBM, each SPU performs at 25.6 GFLOPs.
25.6 X 6=153.6
PPU= 25.67
Total= 179.27 Gflops

http://www.ibm.com/develope...

The PS3's PPU is equal to I of the 3 Xbox 360's CPUs.

Xenon=77Gflops/3 =25.67 Gflops per processor

http://www.cis.upenn.edu/~c...

The PS3 has two sets of RAM. 256MB XDR running at 3.2GHz and 256mb GDDR3 running at 700mhz. The 360 has 512mb GDDR3 all running at 700mhz.

Texel fillrate: Xenos: 8 GT/s, 16 unfiltered texels/cycle
RSX: 13.2 GT/s, 32 unfiltered texels/cycle

Render Output Units: 8 each.
Max fillrate: Xenos 4 gigapixels/s, RSX 4.4 gigapixels/s
AA Sample rate: Xenos 16 GS/s, RSX 17.6 GS/s

The Xenos lists polygon rate, the RSX's doesn't, and not enough info to calculate; but if you consider the Xenos has 48 shader/vertex pipes that can do 10 flops/cycle, and the RSX has 24 shaders at 27 flops/cycle and 8 vertex at 10 flops/cycle.

RSX :(24 pixel shader pipeline* 27 flops per cycle) + (8 vertex * 10) = 728 flops/cycle * 550 million (550mhz)= 398.7 Gflops

Xenos:(48 * 10) = 480 flops/cycle * 500 million (500mhz)= 240 Gflops

So if the Xenos has 500 million polygons/s the RSX would likely have around 700 million or so. The official polygon number for the RSX has not been released yet. The number is just a calculation based on released facts.

There's one other plain and simple number on both of them: dot product ops/second.

Xenos: 24 billion
RSX: 51 billion

Looks good so far
I hope the final build looks much better.
I hope this game looks better than WipeOut HD, a $20 PSN game that runs at a stable 60 FPS and 1080p.

http://ps3.ign.com/dor/obje...

These screenshots are actually 720p captures while the game runs 1080p.

All in all, Death Race looks good for an early build and if plays as good as WipeOut, you guys are in for a treat. I really want this game to surpass WipeOut because as you all know, competition is good for everybody. View
