Why I love Xbox
54 days 16 hours ago | by:
xTHRASHx
Uh-oh, fanboy alert. Yes, i am an MS hoe. Im not ashamed to admit it. I love Xbox, Zune and just about everything else associated with Microsoft. But that hasnt always been true. I used to devote myself to Sony and the PS2. But when i saw how much the PS3 was and what great games 360 had i made a transition.
There are a lot of reasons why the Xbox 360 is the best console out but ill give you a few that i feel are key. Now i have never played a PS3 or Wii so my view is extremley biased and close-minded. So feel free to laugh at my stupidity.
The Xbox Guide. The one thing that 360 has over all other systems. The guide gives us a friends list, the ability to chat with people, and to invite anyone on our friends list to any game, even if that person doesnt own the game. This is absent from other consoles. On those you have to use a code and typically you must know the person prior to them being on your list. I know that on the PS3 you must go back to the what we call a "dash" just to chat. This is why the 360 is and always will be, until the next-gen, the best community console.
That leads me to another reason the Xbox pwns, gamertags. For reasons I cant comprehend the Wii uses a code system instead of gamertags. I mean thats no fun! My g-tag is my identity, its almost a second name. Its xTHRASHx by the way. See i was gonna type in btw there but i feared you might think btw was part of my gamertag. Anywho i know the PS3 uses a gamertag system and thats cool but why dosent the Wii? I would hate to have to use a number as my name, thats really lame.
Achievements. Yes, i said it, achievements. I love the achvs system. It really influences to play a game or do stuff in a game that they wouldnt normally do. It opens peoples minds to games off the radar. But for the most part its competition. Most people will tell you that when the see someone with a 50,000 gamerscore they think that person must be hardcore. I wish that MS would do something with the gamerscore's. Like giving you 80ms points for every 1,000 G's or some kind of gpics for reaching certian levels.
This next one is the most important. The Xbox has better games. I mean should we really debate that? Yes the Wii and PS3 have a few great titles but look at all the EXCLUSIVES that Xbox has. The most of them are GotY contenders and some have won. But all of them sold huge. Ok so theres Bioshock, the Halo series, Gears of War, Mass Effect, oh and let us not forget the exclusive DLC for GTA4. Then there are tons and tons of other games that are just better on the 360.
And lastly Xbox LIVE. The Wii and PS3 have followed in the footsteps of Xbox. They have made changes to the format but the overall gist is the same. The vids, demos and arcade. All from 360. And LIVE is just better, now i can say i love paying 50 bucks for a service that is down from time to time but i can see why. There are 10 million+ people on Xbox Live (and yes i had to look that up). With that many people your bound to find someone playing the game you want ot play. And the fun can never end, unless its Christmas time... lol

Well I don't agree on many of your points (like better exclusives on the xbox) it is your opinion and this is a blog by you so I approved it.
I suggest that you do get a Wii and a PS3... they all have something special to give.

When I have enough money, and some extra pocket change to cover an extended warranty, and the price drops 50 dollars or more, I'll definitely pick up an Elite.
I will also make damned sure that the manufacture date is less than 2 months prior to the date I purchase it.
Who knows....maybe 5th time will be the charm?

Excuse me?
I have owned 4 360s, and if I can ever afford another one, I'll get the best one available, with an extended warranty.
Who the hell are you to call me a liar?
Go to hell asshole.
Your sheer presumptuousness and audacity is striking and startling.
You sound like you know me or something.
I don't care if I get banned permanently for calling you out for what you are, but you sir are a f*cking prick.
Good day.

Right now the Xbox has better exclusives but the that will change within the next couple of years. Gran Turismo 5, Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone and Final Fantasy 13 just to name a few. I agree with you about the Wii friend code; that is just stupid.

I agree on some of your points. The wii code thing is retarded, not only is it a 16 digit code you have to deal with but also a different 16 digit code for every friend for every game. I currently own a wii and a 360. I will be buying a ps3 for mgs and might get the bundle if it includes the game with a case and not just a sleeve for it.
Exclusives will pretty much even out for the 2 systems within a year or 2. I still will buy 360 version of multiplatform games since im an achievement addict. Main point is if you only have one system and not the others you miss out on great exclusives

I can understand you loving the Xbox, it's a fantastic games machine (albeit not so good quality build) but I couldn't imagine loving Microsoft. They just aren't the sort of company you can respect, and they've done nothing to gain loyalty from their devotees.
Still, in the end, it's the games that count, and it's great to be passionate about something you love :)

When I had three broken PS2s I learned that I was right about Sony. The local sales rep. wouldnt even return my calls.
No free warranties, I just had to buy new machines (they were unreparable at the local "PS2 Fix it shops").
Sony has constant pushed proprietary, closed formats - they are the PEAK of anti-customer companies. In every product catagory, they choose their own form-factor no matter what the market has adopted, all to lock-you-in.
I vowed to never buy another Sony product again.

You know nothing of Sony, and nothing in general.
Stop talking out your ass, wow4u, and get a life, and stop acting like you're truly offended by Sony.
Do you realize that Microsoft HAD to offer a FREE 3-year warranty to cover up the WORST consumer electronics reliability disaster in human HISTORY?!?!?
If they didn't there'd have been a public outcry and rally against Microsoft against all their products. It would have been madness.
Also, the sales rep probably didn't return your calls because you probably spent all day leaving him hate messages filled with insults and demeaning phrases meant to belittle him and his job working for Sony.
That's right, you're a f*cking prick, and I pity anyone who has to deal with you.
Your case is an isolated one, thank GOD, and there are plenty of people I know who have NEVER had a problem with Sony.
I LOVE Sony products. I've had a Sony CD radio in my bathroom for YEARS, and through all the humidity from long hot showers (high moisture levels DESTROYS electronic devices), spillage from cleaning chemicals, being dropped twice....IT STILL WORKS PERFECTLY.
Your claims are PERSONAL and UNIQUE and do NOT apply to the general populace.
I thank GOD for that, because if there were more d*ckfaces like you buying MY products, I'd shun you like the black plague.

Wow, you let something like that put you off that companies' products completely, but I'm sure you have no qualms with Microsoft releasing one of the crappiest pieces of hardware in the history of mankind.
As for vowing to never buy another Sony product... that's your loss, my friend. Have fun XD

You mention that the PS3 doesn't have in-game xmb friends list communication features, but thats wrong. Many newer PS3 games (Fall 07 or newer) feature in-game friends lists and/or the ability to chat with your friends in game for example (some with patches); Resistance Fall of Man, Warhawk, Rockband, Call of Duty 4, GTA4, Burnout Paradise.
Two major flaws to the guide blades; first is advertising even when you are a gold member there are dashboard ads which is BS since you are paying and second, friends/notification pop-ups during DVD or HD-DVD movie playback is very annoying (the PS3 does not give notifications while watching movies).
I like your idea with free "perks" for obtaining gamer points. But as a 360 user myself a lot of the points are BS (especially in EA sports games), others are hard to obtain. I know a few games (you don't see this often in modern 360 games) certain unlocked achievements give you free gamer pics/themes which is a cool idea. I know Sony has talked about doing this for HOME (i.e. Accomplishments will unlock clothes for your avatar).
The games section is questionable, especially since the games listed are all from the Fall 2007. As for the GTA DLC The Official Playstation magazine says that GTA on PS3 will be getting DLC at some point, also this 360 DLC is coming out when a slew of titles for both 360 and PS3 will be arriving at that time (plus Saints Row 2 will be out).
I have personally have had more problems with Live than the PSN, primarily down time. The only major benefit to Live is the messaging system which is not flawless. The video chat is crap compared to the PS3 Eye chat system (I have both a Live Vision Camera and the Playstation Eye Camera), you can chat with up to 6 people on PS3 but only to one person on 360. I do like the watter effects on the Guide blades while using the camera, I wish the PS3 did that. I do like it when Microsoft gives away free arcade stuff for live problems. I personally bought a 13 month Live subscription for $35, so I don't feel that ripped off, but when a competitors service is free and has less downtime, I will take the PSN over the Live online gaming system. The video market place is another issue, Sony owns a lot of proprietary content that MS can't get their hands on (Apple's Itunes Video store has Sony content), where MS get the balls to think that the Live marketplace is the end all to digital downloading is anyones guess, especially when Apple dominates the market on PC and video MP3 players (both have a much larger install base than gaming consoles). The sole fact that you rent movies (one view only or 14 days before deleted) pisses me off, especially since they are native 720p not 1080p.
The biggest flaw of the 360 isn't RROD, it's the fact that a 120GB HDD costs $180. If MS expects the video marketplace (especially HD downloads, as they claimed is the reason why they backed HD-DVD in the first place b/c they knew it would fail) to take off they need to slash those prices, especially since the PS3 supports standard notebook HDD's which the 120GB equivalent is ~$70, a savings of $110! And don't get me started on the ridiculous DRM on the live marketplace, themes even have DRM how ridiculous is that.

You are correct you can disable the pop-ups during video playback and you can disable the ad's by lowering your age. Unfortunately, when you do that you cannot access some content. If anything the ad's are always game related to the 360 or some type of Xbox promotion going on or movie/tv show. It's not like I'm sitting thru a Walmart ad everytime I launch the 360 every ad is 360 related. I would be complaining as well if it turned into a free for all tv commercial on the dashboard. The McDonalds promotion was about the limit, anything more than that and I will raise a stink.

You can turn off the notifications but then you won't get them in-game either. I just want to be able to turn them off for movies. You can log in as a guest and not go on live, thats the only true way, but you can't access net-enabled HD-DVD features while not on live.
If there is a way to turn off the ads I would like to know, the PS3's XMB menu has zero ads (minus the news ticker that can be turned off) and is free so why cant Gold members have ad free blades.
If Microsoft and Sony joined together to make a gaming console would be a match made in heaven. The fact that Microsoft is a software company that makes operating systems and software programs (plus direct-x gaming) would mean stellar games and console OS. Sony could provide the hardware (they are an electronics hardware company first) the console would be an amazing set piece for a home entertainment enthusiast.

9 - Yes, 360 is great.
I totally respect your opinion; I own a 360 as well. However, I own a PS3 as well, which I switched to from Xbox 360. I just thought it would be beneficial in a some way to update some of the ill informed.
"The Xbox Guide. The one thing that 360 has over all other systems."
PS3 will have this released by Summer. In Game XMB interface.
"Achievements. Yes, i said it, achievements."
Yes, these are very noteworthy indeed. However, PS3 will have an improved version of this. It will have Trophies, which are actual 3-D rewards; you can even display your own trophy room to all of your Friends AT ONCE. It will also have entitlements. On top of that, these "Entitlements" can earn you NEW rewards and items.
"This next one is the most important. The Xbox has better games."
Opinion. HIGHLY debatable. Not to say my opinion is any better or is complete FACT, it's just that after viewing the list of PS3 EXCLUSIVES, 360 Pales in comparison. Although, 360 DOES have a better lineup CURRENTLY. But PS3 is a ten year system, with the longevity of 10 years.
"The Wii and PS3 have followed in the footsteps of Xbox."
Not to be inconsiderate, but that is unfair. Nintendo has been around for YEARS. Sony learned from the former. PS1 and PS2 came before Xbox. Guess who had to learn then? XBOX. Rights to following the steps of 360 are earned.
I used to like 360 and HATE PS3, but after RESEARCH, Keyword RESEARCH, I came to the conclusion that PS3 will be highly superior by the end of this year.
Also, I am on my 6th 360 (Call me a liar if you want)and have to turn over my system to play a perfect condition Mass Effect disc.
This shows that I don't hate 360 just because of hardware failures. I still love 360. It currently IS better, but not for long.
Enjoy your 360 :)
Oh, but the Wii is a joke.

Oh and the upgrading of PS3 up to 500GB and being able to support over 50 Bluetooth headsets is nice.
And think of the games themselves, instead of just the service. Little Big Planet with INFINITE customization that makes forge look like a mediocre editor. Resistance 2 with 60 players online and 8 player Co-op.
Home itself is going to change online as we know it. And MMO's like the Agency? Awesome.
I just suggest that you look all of this up again before praising Xbox and Microsoft. MS is bad news. Just read the sad stories about what they have done to consumers. I probably have more facts than 90% of the users on this site.

F*CK it all, goddammit.
I am SICK and TIRED of FANBOYS.
F*ck all you stupid pricks.
Yeah, my username is power of BLU, but I'll be honest.
I LOVE the Xbox 360, I LOVE the Wii, and I LOVE the PS3. They are all FANTASTIC gaming machines, and I pity anyone who thinks otherwise.
I had a WONDERFUL time playing on Xbox Live, and I feel EXACTLY the same about gaming online with the PS3.
I don't have the 360 anymore, because frankly, I can't afford it.
If I had more money, I'd go immediately to Best Buy RIGHT NOW, and pick up an Elite.
That's right. I like the Xbox too. In fact I had one WELL before I had a PS3.
Ok, now that I'm done with that little rant, this is the part where all the stupid f*cks claim they know me, and call me a liar, a FUD-er, and whatever else they feel necessary.

SORRY, I should clarify more thoroughly.
PS3 has OVER 160+ exclusive games coming out. And don't automatically assume it's quantity over quality my friends. It's BOTH.
FYI, as I've said before, 360 is still second best system ever.

not that i completely disagree with you but i think you should take the time to enjoy the other systems prior to making such a rash confession of love. While i understand your lack of funds, your love for 360 may just be that of ignorance of other systems, its like falling in love with the first girl you meet in life and never meeting another girl, is that love or is it just what you think is love. expand your horizons and enjoy the other to systems.
