Well, I was impressed, but you CANNOT please all people all of the time. And thats okay.
I loved oblivion, in fact it was the reason i bought a 360 back at launch. So I had high hopes for fallout 3 when it was announced and i have not been disappointed. I only buy games that have a long shelf life or high replay value, and i mean tens of hours- I bought GOW and GOW2 purely for the online, which i could happily play everyday until I die.
Fallout 3 is a vast, detailed game... I have been playing everyday for hours, for weeks and I am still working on the quests. Its been fun, scary, surprising, absorbing and intriguing... I still get a thrill from VATS, even if its on a co(kroach- cinematic kills have never been so intense.
What fallout isn't though, is a casual game, in any shape or form. you cannot pick up and play for a hour, and if you do, you will be disappointed and probably bored. But like most RPG's, digging a little deeper will reward you with a very satisfying experience, not to mention a bad ass character to roam the wasteland with.
It's one of my favorite games of all time, and something I hoped for ever since I was young and playing my first games on a Spectrum ZX- its the best sci-fi open world experiance out there (Mass Effect comes in as a damn close second though); and I cannot wait for the promised new weapons and creatures in the DLC.
