The Console War
123 days 5 hours ago | by: strembones
Recently I just bought a Playstation 3 after 15 years of PC gaming. I did a ton of research online on which console I should buy. The 360 or PS3. Thats when I was introduced to the world of the console war. On the PC we never had anything like this. Sure there were fanboys of different games and even PC manufacturers but nothing like in the world of the console. So much venom is spewed over who is the best and which system will reign supreme when the dust settles, it really brings a smile to my face to see people fight just to validate their purchase. In the end thats really what it is all about. Nobody playing a 360 cares about Microsoft, just as nobody playing a PS3 cares about Sony. So in the end, whoever wins the console war, if there is a winner, all it will do is make one side feel like they have made the right purchase.

The war has had some positive effects though, that I will admit. We as gamers are getting tons of great features on our respective consoles. From Xbox live to Playstation Home (if it ever comes out) all of us in the end win. If I could I would go out and buy an Xbox right now just so I could experience everything Microsoft has to offer (excluding the red ring). So lets keep up the fight and watch the console giants continue to give us great features on our systems! Let them fight for our hard earned dollars. Make them spend a ton of theirs all on us..the consumer. We do this and everyone all around will win.

I haven't even mentioned the Nintendo Wii. This system is blowing everything out of the water. The reason for this I believe is because it is so easy for a family to jump right in and enjoy it. People my mothers age all the way to my 3 year old daughter can have tons of fun on it, and thats just something the PS3 and 360 will never have. I own a Wii but as a "gamer" this system just doesn't have enough for what gamers demand. Mainly killing our fellow gamers and calling them noobs.

if you don't experience the red ring of death, you will never experience the full 360 experience that Mircrosoft has to offer...

Had not been catching up RROD has been reduced significantly in last 2 months I have seen response from a lot of gamers on GS and they are saying that even the repair ones don't break off that easy now.

One of the user had problem with drive so he was blowing his 360 to get another for free but no matter how much he tried it didn't blew he did towel trick, electric shocks and none where successful.

Yeah man...

Overall decent blog. I get so tired of the console war. I love games and understand frustrations. I just wish more people would play for games then for companies... I do and really I feel more fruitful for it.

couldn't agree more jinxstar. Being a PC gamer for so long I never really understood just how serious this stupid war was. I have the ps3 and love it but the online blows, so I want a 360 to fill that void in my pathetic gaming existence

Compared to PC gaming all console gaming online pales though bro... You will never see "ping" numbers anywhere... Because if they ever showed them it would be embarassing... I see the point though. I was a PC gamer for a long time. Mostly MMO's. Kinda wish I could alt tab out of games sometimes....

Welcome to the world of streamlined gaming! I'm glad to have you my friend!

I think you make some great points. "Why can't we all get along?" Here's not to say you aren't right but despite that I doubt we ever will. I'm not sure the console war was spawned over justification of product purchase, but more for brand loyalty. Consumers have always felt strongly about the things they purchase and the quality they expect. In economics a company is considered and individual and we may take that to heart in a way. Its about sticking up for the one you "love" or know. We do it with cars, actors, entertainers, etc. I've owned a Sony console for every generation now. There was no question I would purchase the PS3. Yet I own a 360 too. I appreciate both products but still like Sony's more because of the choices they make and its content. I really do believe this product is superior. Its not the 600 I shelled out for it but my own distinct opinion. I think competition is a great thing. Its what advances us. Yes we should do it with an open mind and respect for the fellow gamer. I believe that. But could you imagine the industry if neither company had to win over the consumer? If we weren't going head to head. That would be a tragic day in our industry. Now Nintendo...well that's another story.
