MS = Crybabies?
514 days 18 hours ago | by:

It seems like ever since E3 went down MS has been on a trash talking spree. Frankly, I think they're just embarassing themselves. Whatever happened to letting the products speak for themselves?
I'm not saying that all companies don't do their trash talking, but MS takes it to a new level. The use it as a strategy. Fact of the matter is, it just makes them look desperate. If they're product is so superior, then why do they seem so worried about their competitors?
It's pretty obvious what's happening here. Sony has finally taken the gloves off, and now that they are fully supporting the PS3, they have a lot more momentum. You can afford to do that though when you have 25 in house devs. (vs. MS's 7). In house devs. bring the true exclusives, and these exclusives are what set one console apart from the other.
Sony hasn't even scratched the surface at E3, there has been story after story about the grounbreaking announcements yet to come at the Lepzig conference in Europe and the Tokyo Game Show.
All this and Sony already has '09 lined up as their year. In '09, Sony will be the company to beat. If they just rest on the strength of the titles they have already announced than MS is already going to be in for a rough ride.
But is looks like in the mean time MS is going to continue its flurry of badmouthing. And as always, the true gamers such as ourselves won't be fooled that this is anything more than MS's death rattle.

Nothing like the perspective of MS from a Sony fanboy!
Let me tell you this, if you think the 360 or MS are in any type of "death rattle" you need to understand that MS and the Xbox platform will not be going away. Get used to it.
MS has a different philosophy when it comes to announcing games than Sony. They announce titles that are for the year coming up, they don't talk up games that have no release date in sight like Sony. Which in your fanboy mind equals "MS has no games". Just look at the superior 360 catalog of games as a history lesson that MS can and will have plenty of new games coming. You think MS showed all their cards at E3? Of course they didn't just like Sony.
You seem to be the type of person who is spoonfed his news via the media. You do know that these stories are constructed to be dramatic and if possible controversial in order to garner readers and hits? These media outlets can have a 4 hour conversation about gaming and in one sentence they could say "we are better than XXXX" and guess what headline they use. So many stories on N4G are recycled news stories from the same interview, just different quotes and a different way of presenting the information. So I'm sure in your fanboy mind you think they are coming out everyday saying "we are the best!". All companies smack talk the competition.
The only crybabies I see are people who boycott gaming companies, make petitions and cry about losing third party games ala the Sony faithful.

So let me get this straight, MS only announced the games that were debuting the year of E3? So what was the point of announcing FF13, when it won't be out for the 360 until a year after the next E3?
Aren't you tired of being so pathetic? All you can do is accuse people of being fanboys. I'm sure there is a job at MS waiting for you.
And just for the record, not all game companies resort to the desperate lengths that MS does. MS basically comes out and says "If you buy our competitors products your stupid!"
But yeah, I think Sony pretty much owns '08 - they've got MGS4, The Agency, Resistance 2, Motorstorm, LittleBigPlanet, etc.
MS has Too Human, Gears2, Banjo, Ninja Gaiden.

Though I would add to your MS list tony :)
MS - Tales of vesperia , Infinite undiscovery , Last remnant , Left 4 dead , Fallout 3 dlc, Gta 4 dlc, Kingdom under Fire Circle of Doom , Lost Odyssey.
Not a bad year at all for MS. 6 exclusive rpgs while the ps3 is stuck with a bunch of mediocre shooters.
Might have to update my list later you never know when MS buys a sony exclusive :P

First off let me say I think PS3 has the superior hardware and more potential. But that hasn't been realized yet. I'm still waiting for Wipeout HD ...
"MS has Too Human, Gears2, Banjo, Ninja Gaiden."
Those are on the same line bu tnot in the same leagues. Gears 2 will rule 2008 and early 2009 (if RE5 doesn't deliver, it will rule well into 2009). Gears is still the definitive next-gen game. KZ2 and Resistance simply aren't in Gears' league. The PS3 has no franchises to truly compare with Xbox 360s Gears and Halo (though Halo is not really next-gen).
And why is that? Well, maybe because there is no God of War on PS3, and won't be until sometime in 2009? MGS 4, it's big, but not Gears and Halo big. Not in this generation of gaming.
Sony needs to deliver God of War, Wipeout HD (not a huge seller, but an important franchise with no 360 alternative, plus it will raise the bar for PSN and XBLA games). Again, Gears laughs at KZ2 and Res2; great games to be sure, but still not Gears. I love my PS3 and my Xbox is so loud I no longer watch movies on it, but I'll keep it as long as the Gears franchise is exclusive.
Sony still has a lot of work to do to get universal Trophy adoption and for it to reach Achievement levels.
Sony is also isn't doing much to exploit its Bluray advantage. I don't know why MS would cry, Sony doesn't know how to be a bully, even when they have the bigger bat.

1.5 - lol.
The truth of the matter is that Microsoft does in fact do a whole lot of TALKING. And 80% of that is NEGATIVE talk. And about OTHER companies.
This is truth.
Another thing I want to point out is that the OP has made some pretty reasonable points. If they truly ARE as cool and collected as they portray themselves to be, and really DO believe that they will win this generation, why all the bashing? Why not give credit where it's due? I have seen Sony PR many times give credit to the few things the Xbox 360 does right.
Why can't Microsoft do the same? Why can't they congratulate Sony for the things that THEY have done right? I have seen a lot of things happening these last few months and I can truly say that I am witnessing a change in tide. Where Microsoft, who thought themselves to be the teacher, are now becoming the student. Learning from the things that Sony has been able to do better than they have.
And instead of commenting on the jobs that Sony has done well, they just do a whole lot of bashing. But Sony doesn't bash back too often, and they congratulate Microsoft all the time, and that's something that I respect from Sony.
The PS3 has outsold the 360 this whole 1st half of the year, and Sony just talks and smiles. And Microsoft will continue to be outsold, and they will continue to down-talk every single occurrence that will happen throughout this year, and Sony will simply talk and smile their way through month after month of the PS3 outselling the Xbox 360.
Sony is finally there. They have finally gathered that momentum. And if I know Sony, there's nothing stopping them from here on out. The Sony brand is a force. A life of its own. They continue making the correct decisions. And THIS generation, the right decision was investing in 1st party support. THOSE 1st-party exclusives will drive the PS3 year after year, while Microsoft wastes millions trying to buy Final Fantasy 13 an ex-PS3-exclusive into their system... And the PS3 is STILL going to get Final Fantasy 13, and Sony won't have to pay a cent. AND we're going to the get the original and not the port.
Microsoft's tactics, although relentless, lack logic and foresight. If they would only become a bit less arrogant and a bit more open-minded, they might just learn a thing or two from the creators of the best-selling gaming consoles of all time.

Let's be clear on one point here. I am not accusing you of being a fanboy I am saying YOU ARE a fanboy and a quick look at your comments shows just that. You hate on the 360 more than you talk about the PS3. I am a 360 fanboy but you don't see me writing crybaby blogs about Sony and THAT is pathetic.
Second, when I am talking about MS's game announcing philosophy I am talking about MS first party titles not third parties. Third parties announce their games when they want to and MS has no control over that. The FF announcement was put at the end to be a show stopper..Mission successful.
"And just for the record, not all game companies resort to the desperate lengths that MS does. MS basically comes out and says "If you buy our competitors products your stupid!"
Do you have a quote where MS says you are stupid if you buy a PS3? Once again you are looking at the situation with your Sony goggles on. Like I said before Companies smack talk each other all the time and that includes Sony.
MS doesn't have the years in the gaming business like a Sony or Nintendo so they need to go to great lengths to get marketshare. Sony has you fools thinking that game companies fall at their feet and are honored when the PS3 takes their games onto the platform. Just ask Nintendo about Sony and how they did whatever they had to in order to take franchises and get developers on board. MS is simply taking a page from the Sony playbook. As a gamer, I could care less what MS does in the background, just bring me good games and they are doing that at the expense of Sony, thus all the crying.
Oh and your 360 list just shows your fanboy nature. I think Socomnick filled it in a bit for you.

"I am a 360 fanboy but you don't see me writing crybaby blogs about Sony and THAT is pathetic. "
I'm sorry but replying to this blog/forum contradicts everything you try to defend yourself from, seriously, if you enjoy the 360 so much, why do you try to defend it..... If the 360 is so "GREAT" then it shouldn't need defending, so do as Sony does as stated about smile and nod.... And I want to say the same thing to Sony fanboys, it don't need defending.

If you don't think that MS does there fair share of trash talking and then some you're just naive. Japanese have a little more humility.
Just look how MS trashes PSN. Of course they are going to trash PSN - they have to justify charging people for XBL when they just made the windows version of XBL free. PSN might not be as polished, but its coming along nicely. It is FREE, but more importantly, it serves its function. And you can't tell me the new 360 interface isn't just a weak response to Nintendo and Sony's offering.
If you ask me, PSN has more interesting games. Fat Princess, FLOWer, Ragdoll fighters, Siren, all good games.
I could spend all day talking about MS's offenses, but that's besides the point. The point is that their sudden influx of smack talking just shows a lack of confidence on their part.
And if you look at where the PS3 is going, that's understandable.
Killzone 2
God of War 3
The Agency
DC universe
MAG(new Socom)
Socom Confrontation
Motorstorm 2
Infamous
Little Big Planet
GT5/GTTV
Hardware 2
Resistance 2
Rockstar Exclusive
Heavy Rain
L.A. Nore
Thats not even including the BLOCKBUSTER game they're going to announce at lepzig, the one that has all those BBC journalists in an uproar.
Not to mention the announcement from squaresoft coming at the Tokyo Game Show that is supposed to wow people on the same level as the 360 FF13 announcement at E3, which by the way, MS forgot to announce that the 360 version won't come out a year later (my geuss is an exclusive FF MMO will be in order for the ps3). Team ICO will most likely make their announcement at TGS as well, prepare to be amazed.
E3 was just the tip of the iceburg. Sony's japanese and European studios are just as exciting as their American, and TGS and Lepzig are right around the corner.
If anyone thinks they can come up w/ a better list for XBOX, feel free to try.
XBOX 360
Halo Wars: MS must not have a lot of faith in this game if it doesn't think it can compete w/ starcraft, C&C, EndWar, and CivRev all dropping this year.
Alan Wake: Something tells me all these delays aren't a good thing(Haze, Too Human)
New Halo: Another 2 yrs., another Halo game from Bungie. Can they do this time what they couldn't do last time? Are they going to take some risks or are they just going to play it safe so they don't alienate the fans?
Forza 3: Got a long way to go to beat GT5 which has drifting, street, rally, and formula racing, not to mention GTTV, destruction for the first time, and all this at 1080p and 60fps.
Banjo Kazooie: I'm sorry, but at least with LBP you have some control over how cute and cuddly it gets. This game looks geared towards preshoolers - vomit inducing. Honestly, I could care less about both games.
Fable 2 - Just announced at E3 the game is only 12 hrs. long...12 HRS LONG!
Gears2 is the game that justifies my purchase, and its all I need.
Lost 360 exclusives: Bioshock, Mass Effect, left 4 dead

You know that is an excellent post. The cultural differences in business may be why Sony, having the upper hand and all the weapons, just can seem to knock MS out when they're clearly on the ropes. They just don't have that ... mmmmpphh.
I mean put it in perspective, PS3 has Bluray, HD Audio, and when developers feel like doing the wor, better graphics. Yet Xbox is still the king of next gen. Depsite numbers, they have the mindshare. I mean, they survived the ridiculous RRoD fiasco, soon that will be completely forgotten.
History does repeat itself. Microsoft's history is making better software and defeating superior products. Sony's history is losing to inferior products. Can you say Betamax and Walkman?
Now, the PS3 is doing a lot better than those two products, but just imagine for a moment, if Microsoft had the PS3, with cell processors, and bluray and the competition had Xbox, with no HD Media, no HD Audio, and the RRoD fiasco...

@1.7: Like I said I am a 360 fanboy and when someone is bashing my console I go and defend it. I didn't start this little conversation someone else did. It's not like I wrote an essay about why I hate Sony and think they are crybabies. I guess you could say if you added up all my negative comments on Sony and the PS3 on N4G it would be a small novel haha but he called me pathetic first.. ahah
@Tony: You are missing a bunch of JRPG's as well as games like APB. If you are going to list games that could be out in 2010 for all you know at least be a bit more reasonable with the 360 list. It's not hard to goto IGN and look at the upcoming 360 games and I think you will be surprised at how many there are.
Both systems have games coming out, there is no arguing that, but it is down to personal taste which of those games appeals to you more.
"Lost 360 exclusives: Bioshock, Mass Effect, left 4 dead"
Can you please link me to the announcement that Mass Effect or Left4Dead has been announced for the PS3? If you want to pull that kinda FUD you better include MGS4 for the 360.

2 - I don't think 2009 will be Sony's year
PS3 has been getting better but there have also been delays. Who knows, FFXIII, which is already multiplatform, might just arrive in 2010. Perhaps Versus will end up multiplatform and so will KH3, by the look of things. There are also rumors that MGS4 and L.A. Noire will arrive on 360. That is why I think PS3 should be getting Dead Rising, Mass Effect and all the Namco exclusives that Microsoft bought.
I do agree that PS3 has much better first party offerings, but Microsoft is being extremely aggressive by buying out PS3 exclusives and getting timed exclusives, so they just want to cancel the competition. Then again, that does sound like they are crybabies. Instead of making an effort in growing their first party portfolio, they are simply buying the industry out. How sad, especially since they are forcing developers to catter to the lower common denominator (DVD9). If Microsoft actually had Blu-ray and did that, I would not mind, as the quality of games wouldn't suffer, at least not as much.

Why is buying great games for your platform sad? That's smart. Dude, if Sony would get Geometry Wars on PSN I'd buy it in a sec. I'd rather have it on PS3 and get trophies than on XBLA with Achievements. But ...
Microsoft is simply better at business than Sony right now. Sony needs to get a business backbone. Sony is conducting business like the company is made up of senior citizens, while Microsoft is Kickin' A## and taking names.

2.4 - Stardust IS
A load better than GW, because of the constant updates for a title that is a year old. (trophies made me like this game)
What I would argue is that LIVE keeps getting awesome arcade titles that makes me envious.
The good thing about the PSN is that even though the content is sparser (Its younger than LIVE) however there is constant support/updates/expansions for those games that succeed.

3 - Always the Next Year
Hmn, wasn't it 07 that all you fanboys were saying '2008 Sony will dominate the market with games' now the call is that 2009 will be Sony's year. By the time Sony's year actually arrives to fanboy satisfaction MS will have released or be nearing the release of their new console. Shut up and play your MGS, oh sorry, you finished it already? He dies and is gay? I could have told you that after MGS2.
Also why are people insisting on Blu ray being the saviour of next-gen games? As far as I know there is already a console out with Blu-Ray, and exclusive games, not too impressive IMHO.

People also like playing with friends so most multiplatform games sell more on the 360. I only speak from my own experience and i have more games for my 360 than my PS3, thats just the way it happened. I got COD4 on the 360 so i could play with my mates, and the guys from work.

I didn't find crackdown all that great, 360 can keep it, Bioshock coming to ps3 anyways, Orange Box, well I won't be buying any Valve games until the ps3 version gets a proper patch, I own the PC version not the ps3, but I disagree with Valve and EA's stances on the ps3 version, in reality it has no effect on me, but in a whole it can have an effect on us all, if Valve gets away with it, whats stopping Bioware, Capcom, Bungie, etc etc, from doing the same thing to pc, 360 users with new games, before we know it games will come out buggie and not be fixed...... Man i miss the the cartridge era... now its release and patch later...gotta love it...

It just all depends on what PR you like listening to more. Really all companies shove there foot in their mouth. Sony will take a bullet in the head rather than taking an exclusive, MS has metecritic to site at all times, and Nintendo wants to show off their graphs. It's all just them distracting you with the left hand while doing something with the right.
Along with what company you like better you will always think their PR is so wonderful and spot on. Anyone can list a bunch of games saying they are nothing but AAA titles but then ask the next guy and he'll say those are medicore titles...
