Xbox 360 or PS3?
113 days 14 hours ago | by: TheDeadMetalhead
I need the community's help on this subject. I own a Wii, and don't get me wrong, I love it. Unfortunately, all of my favorite game series (Soul Calibur, GTA, Gran Turismo) are all 360/PS3 exclusive. I'm going to get one or the other, but I'm torn between the two (the 360's cheaper, and has more games. But the PS3 has way better graphics and will probably be around longer). At first, I wanted a 360. But now, with GT5 coming out I wanted a PS3. But now I think I want a 360 again. What I want to know is, which system do you think is better: Xbox 360 or a PS3

well based on the 3 games you listed you should get the ps3 seeing as how they all will be on the ps3, where as gran turismo wont be on the 360. as for price, the value of the ps3 out weighs that of the 360, due to the blu ray player. Graphically they are currently on the same level but i would venture to say the ps3 will soon show its true potential. youre right with how long the consoles will last. despite what any one tells you the ps3 will outlast the 360. microsoft will have a console sooner than sony, probably by 3-4 years. so if youre looking into the best over all value, you should get the ps3 which is slightly more but will last longer. and dont skimp on the version, buy the 80

2 - I would suggest the PS3
longevity is key and they have great reliability and a great software line up for the rest of the year. They also have double the first party studios that MS and Nin do combined. They will be putting out some really quality and popular titles for years to come.

PS3 is my vote...
reliable
nice design
great exclusives (over 80 released so far)
long term support
stunning line up coming this year
best controller
a committment to continuely improve that Sony has been living up to.
PSN -Lag free online gaming (or nearly so)

4 - Its going to be hard to get an unbiased suggestion on this site TheDeadMetalhead
This site is filled with biased fanboys from both sides. If you base your decision on the replies on this site it will be the PS3 hands down as the Sony fans outnumber 360 fans 3 to 1 easily.

I own all three consoles and enjoy them all. To be 100% honest I do lean toward the 360 for various reasons. Both consoles have ups and downs. I would recommend getting both consoles if you can afford it. If not I'd recommend looking at the exclusive games first. Which console has more exclusives you like? After exclusives games here’s a couple things to consider...

Is multiplayer gaming really important to you? If you can afford $1 a week I'd go with the 360. While the PS3 is competing in the online arena it’s still not on par with XBL. In game chat. Movie rentals. And very few people have mics on PSN because you don't get a mic out of the box. Not to mention there have been a lot of AAA multiplatform games that launched with broken PSN functionality TF2, COD4, R6V2 and GTA IV are examples.

Movies and other media really important to you? The PS3 plays Bluray movies and also does an awesome job upscaling standard DVDs.

Are you interested in downloadable games? So far I'd give the advantage to the PS3 is there area as they release more original downloadable games like Flow. XBL has some good downloadable games too but a lot are remakes of classic arcade games.

People saying one controller is better than the other won't help you because its personal preference. Again both have ups and downs.

Like I said. Both consoles are must have for me. I'm happy with both of them. It’s a hard choice if you can only have one.

Hope this helps.

Owning both (and a Wii) I say 360 if games and online gaming are the prime motives. I rarely play my PS3 unless a new PS3 exclusive is out and the online community feels like a barren wasteland compared to LIVE. I also really like things like being able to check a Gamercard for what games a friend has been playing recently. In game Private Chat. Voice messaging. Achievements. etc... If these things don't really move you or you are also a movie buff get a PS3. Pretty simple really, but don't believe the hype of PS3 games looking better...I have them both hooked up in 1080p (PS3 HDMI and 360 Component, my TV accepts 1080p over component) and they both look the same.

Of course if you are asking at News4Sony.com you are going to get a 98% PS3 bias so good luck. Inform yourself and fill your needs would be the best way to go.

Unfortunately, you're comparing multiplats (most likely), and developers prefer to make them the same, so as to not put off one fanbase or the other from getting the title.

Exclusives are where Sony's strength is at. That's undeniable and proven.

7 - PS3 owns
I think you should get the PS3. The reason why Im suggesting to you to get a PS3 is because it features a Blu - Ray player which means a lot more space for on the BD disc for games. One of the Rockstar people said that GTA V might be too big for XBOX 360. Already you can see that the XBOX 360 is supposed to last long but with the amount of space it has on the DVD it wont get far..

Reliability. I do not need to tell you anything. Type in RROD in youtube.com and you will see "some" results. Who knows you might be the lucky person to get RROD ? I suggest you get a PS3 which is always been reliable along with its parent consoles, PSX,PS3 etc..

XBOX 360 might have a larger library of games, but the question is :
Are you going to buy all the games, or just the ones you like ?
PS3 has a way better exclusive library coming this year and in 09, such as Resistance2, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift , Killzone 2, LBP, Siren, Eight Days and others ;)

PlayStation Home coming in November this year, in -game XMB thats what all the PS3 owners have been waiting for.

Another thing is, if you look up on the internet "What should XBOX 720 have?" It basically lists all of the things that the PS3 already has .. XBOX 360 owners critise the PS3 but they are only lying to themselves that PS3 is crap, they know that PS3 is much better and powerful.

The last thing i wanted to talk about is the YouTube SDK that SONY is planning to add to the PS3 firmware. If you want all the features that the PS3 has, you will have to pay much more money for the XBOX 360 + the features that the PS3 already has. PSN is also free of charge , you can download themes etc for free. Where as at XBL you are required to pay "some" money.

I personally own two consoles , and the reason why i own both is because i got XBOX 360 for about 140$ with 3 controllers , game etc.
People are selling this thing for crazy money, and want PS3 instead.

If you buy a PS3 with 40GB harddrive you should have no problems at all with all other games. 40GB is the most reliable version of PS3.

I own both. I like both. Try getting both if you can save cause they both have fun games and a good line up. If you are stuck with 1 choice no one can give you a good answer cause if you like Blu Ray then hey + for PS3 if you like Halo the + for 360... There is too much to say. based on the little info you give I would side with most of these guys and say PS3 cause of what you get out of the box. You just get a lot more off the bat...

10 - I have the same problem but PS3 is more appealing
I have the same problem, currently I'm thinking between 360 vs PS3. I think I'm gonna go with the PS3. Little bit more expensive, but you get a blu-ray player at the same time. To be honest, I think the PS3 will around longer than 360. Look at the PS2 there are still games coming out on this console, and you can still buy at the retail stores. The original Xbox is long dead.

well im going to put my unbiased hat on for this one

games are what's important right? well both consoles have strong line-ups

the 360 has a batter library, but the PS3 has more and more exciting exclusives announced

type in "PS3 and 360 exclusives" on Youtube and you should see a few vids that show off the big exclusives for each console

when you've decided what games you prefer, that SHOULD be your decision made

but there are other things to think about, here's a list of advantages and disadvantages for both consoles:

360 adv- better online service (for now anyway), more multi-platform games that run better on the 360, cheaper, larger available library, more content on the marketplace than PSstore like demo's, films and classic arcade games

PS3 adv- excellent reliability, the support of Sony's 20-strong game studio force pumping out games (with 2nd party devs such as Insomniac and Quantic Dream), Blu-Ray drive, firmware updates that add more features like DivX and stuff, upgradeable HDD with ANY 2.5in SATA drive, you can install Linux (PPC Linux i.e gimped Linux, but still), a standard HDD, Sixaxis motion controls, remote play with PSP (store sh!t on your PS3 HDD then access it with your PSP anywhere in the world- including some PSN games), B/C with the excellent PS2 and PS1 libraries (varies with model, a 40gb can't run PS2 games for example- but can still play PS1 games), upcoming Youtube upload support, a web browser, folding@home lets you help find a cure for diseases, quieter, HOME (read up on it), Kb/M support, PSN is free, more futur-proof

360 disadv- the infamous RROD, huge power brick (PSU), DVD9- some games come on multiple disks, marketplace lacking original EDI games in comparison to the PSN, disk scratching (if you move your console while playing a game), very noisy, most good exclusives available on PC

PS3 disadv- its huge so good luck finding a comfortable place to put it in, smaller available library, mandatory installs for several games, PSN < XBL, more delays for games (thus the birth of the terms "wait b3yond" and "this is waiting")

hope i helped

About the PPC Linux, you do know that Canonical (or someone...I'm not sure) has made a kernel specifically for the cell, right?

I tried PPC kernel first, but I ended up discovering the cell kernel. Much better.

Oh, and PS3 Linux needs 3 things to be PERFECTLY on par with PC linux.

- WiFi support (PS3 wifi card not supported at all as of yet...no drivers exist)

- RSX graphics support (locked out by Sony for fear of user game dev'ing)

- Way to change resolutions EASILY (currently, it involves editing the /etc/X11/Xorg.conf file I believe, with gedit as root. There's also a terminal function to change it in real time too, not just at next boot, it involves typing a command, and inputting a number that corresponds with a given color type, refresh rate, and resolution)

14 - My vote is for 360
But asking conclusion in this site I dont get the idea anyways if you like the game which are more PC based 360 is the best in personal I like them its abt gameplay. Also things like DVD and HDD install are upto devs and without them it is good so far or to say the same.

I was new to this generation I had PS2 just for short span (got it in 2004) and I was a PC gamer so I got 360 which was really good purchase at the end. Also the issues RROD is there but that is not hard hitting now as it was earlier and disc scratching issues I have not seen them yet, i have jsut heard abt them.

But I would say it depends on your choice of games. So if its PC oriented and you need hassle free gaming at budget 360 is your choice.

15 - Hmmmm.
It seems like you guys are torn down the middle, too. I'm going to get both eventually, but whichever one I don't get I won't be able to get for a long time. Based on the comments so far, I think I'll get a 360, first. Thank you all for your help!:)

16 - You pay for what you get.
Think of it this way if you want a basic console buy a 360 if you want a premium console then buy the PS3. There's nothing wrong with either console but for you money on a long term basis its without a doubt got to be a PS3, & in a long run the PS3 works out to be cheaper.

17 - Considering you want the more powerful system, and something that's guaranteed to last.
Go with the PS3. If you like online gameplay, Playstation Network is rock solid as well (and free).

19.1 - i have all three next gen consoles.
but that doesnt make my opinion any less bias. personally i lean towards the ps3. its really the piece of mind i get with the machine that i absolutely love. its quiet, reliable, and has a upcoming lineup that makes me drool the most. i usually go with the system that has my favorite franchises on them. i am a big fan of metal gear, resident evil, god of war, and gran turismo. can u guess which system has or will have those games? i depise sony and microsoft as companies but i can openly admitt that they both made spectacular consoles and you can't go wrong with either one. my suggestion? check out youtube and search gameplay vids for exclusive games on each console. choose which ones has the most games you want to play and game on.

feel free to add me
