Why is Wii getting treated like a PS2?
144 days 16 hours ago | by: TheDeadMetalhead
I can't believe how game developers are treating the Wii. They're treating it like a PS2 with motion controls! Look at Guitar Hero III, for example. The Wii version was the same as the PS2 version! (and why are they still making PS2 games, anyway?) While the 360/PS3 versions get more content and better graphics! Also, I think the graphics on the Wii are being vastly underestimated as well. The Wii has much more graphical capability than the PS2 ever did! Why are game developers trying to put a great system with great potential to an early grave?

you might want to do your research a bit more, the ps2 is capable of handling way more processes, and allows for better graphics. the wii is just a game cube with motion controls.

the wii is a fad, everyone's getting it but not playing it, i played my wii mostly for brawl, but thats it, i play my cp or ps3 more than my Wii...The wii is last gen, a gamcube with motion controls...Yes its killing every other console out there, but that soon will end as everyone will have one but will be playing other consoles..

2 - Think about this logically,
why would a game company want to update the graphic of a PS2 build for the Wii? People who bought the Wii bought it for the motion controls and not for the graphics. Dev's will cut corners with the Wii whenever possible because it saves money and with a game like GH3, its about the gameplay and not the graphics at all.

2.1 - You are right
Although there's no reason why the Wii can't do what the 360/PS3 are doing graphically. It is about the gameplay, though, you're right about that.

Not really TheDeadMetalhead.
Even gameplay wise, there are things that Wii can't do as well. It can't have advanced physics:
The core of PS3 / 360 version of Star Wars: Force Unleashed gameplay and the whole Fracture which can't have a Wii version of it. Battlefield Bad Company's fully destructable enviroments along with Mercs 2 (Though the Mercs is gonna have different and toned down version for PS2 that will end up on Wii).

A game like GTA4 (The best game of all time according to ratings) is not possible on Wii even from a gameplay perspective. GTA4 uses Euphoria, an advanced physics and AI engine that is behind many awesome and OMG moments in the game. Plus we can't have crowded enviroments like that.

The thing is that gameplay wise, PS3/360 and Wii are completely different. Wii can't do some of what PS3 / 360 do and they can't do some of what Wii can either. The problem is that PS3 / 360 have ,much better graphics than PS2 but Wii is only a bit better than PS2, graphically and since there has been no Wii game that can surpass PS2's best looking games (God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, Black, Burnout Revenge and such) and the thing can't come close to original Xbox's graphics, the devs don't give it all they have.
When they do, they end up with games like Zack & Wiki, No More Heroes and such that BOMB at retail while likes of Wii Fit sell millions.

The Wii -really is comparable in HW terms to the PS2 vs the PS3 or Xbox360. It is faster then the PS2 true but not by the factor that the PS3 or Xbox 360 is.
Build a last gen box get last gen results - it's easy math.

I love how people disagree with you. Did you guys - especially those who disagree - know that the first Wii devkits were actually GameCubes with a WiiMote prototype attached? Apparently not. Of course there have been additions to the hardware in terms of processing and graphics power to some extent, but it is not dramatically more powerful than a GameCube or a PS2. Some people just tend to forget what you can do with whats inside the Wii. Even if it really is just a "GameCube 1.5" - it was able to make Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 2&3 look abslutely stunning, so in the right hands it can produce wonderful graphics - and a good gaming experience, for that matter.

The reason 3rd parties are not doing what the Wii is possible of is because for the last 10 years no 3rd party really wanted to make a Nintendo game. Now everyone is jumping the bandwagon without putting forth any effort in making a game.

End of this year and next year should prove nicely with Fatal Frame, Monster Hunter, Day of Crisis, MadWorld, the Factor 5 game, and so many more we know nothing about.

Why are you worried, the Wii sold 700K Units in April.

Also, just being a new Wii owner myself(bought one 4 days ago), it's a cool system and all, but let's be realistic, this thing isn't much stronger than an x-box.

Ummm...Yeah there is. It's called grahics card/computer clock speeds, polygons per seconds and fill rate.

The Wii can't render Gears of War or Uncharted at anything close to 30 fps.

dude, no offense but some of these posts are just getting ridiculous. You are WAY over-estimated the Wii's power, FYI it is less powerful than the original XBox, thats why.

Oh, and the reason that it is treated like a PS2 because it is just a bit more powerful, so there is no point of having to port a game to the Wii just to give it slightly better graphics then the PS2 version.

its not that i dont like ur opinion its just that your stating it as FACT. It isn't fact and your totally off with your assumptions of the Wii;s power.

Because it is more of a last gen system with motion controls. Besides Brawl I don't play anything on that system and only my little brother who's a big Mario fan plays Galaxy and Paper Mario 3. Although I love Nintendo and understand that they didn't want to put out an expensive system and fail like the Gamecube did. The Gamecube was the second best in graphics last gen and it still didn't matter, and the same goes for the N64 which was better than the PS1 graphically, so Nintendo decided that since graphics really don't matter why not put out a console that truly symbolizes our companies innovation.

Sad thing is the best game in my opinion is SSBB which is better with the GC controller and doens't require any Wii motion.

-With hardware limitations
PS1 had better graphics than N64.
But N64 with an expansion pack had better graphics than PS1.

-WIthout hardware limitations
I've also played both consoles on emulators (I legally own the games) at 2048 x 1536 resolution (eat that PS3/360) N64 games look great, especially expansion pack games. PS1 games mostly come up a little blocky, but a handfull are great too.

Have you seen an N64 game recently? If you compare Super Mario 64 to Spyro on the PS1 (2 of the best looking games on both systems) you'll see the difference:(

Yeah the PS1 was a bit more powerful than the n64. It also had more storage space with CD's while the n64 had catridges still.

10 - The weakest console always wins
Hey, I remember playing the Saturn way back, enjoying games in which were then HD, playing games in resolutions PS1 owners could only dream about.
