A Wii with PS3/Xbox360 graphics. Can it be done?
145 days 12 hours ago | by: TheDeadMetalhead
I say, yes it can. If a game developer put enough time and effort into the graphical quality of a game, then yes. And even if it couldn't, Nintendo should make an attachment that can somehow make their games PS3 quality. What do you think? Do you think it could be done?

More a question of both the cpu and gpu strengths... both of which are weak by next gen standards on the Wii. Your expansion would be a whole new Wii.... as your replacing the core components of the Wii

Mii2 maybe (Ilove that name ^_- )
Wii not possible.

1.1 - Are you sure about that?
I see what you're saying, but what about Rock Band? It's not out yet, but I've seen trailers for the Wii version and it looks just like the 360/PS3 versions. Before I saw those trailers, I probably would agree with you, but now I wonder...

its not possible, the capabilities are just not there, dont get me wrong they can make games look better than they have thus far but they wont reach the levels of the other two.

As for rock back, it looks the same because its not a graphically demanding game. the focus of your attention on that game is the notes, which is why the background lack astonishing visuals because they want to keep your attention on the notes, but now try to get cod4 on the wii, it cant be done.

2.1 - Well done, Hagaf22
You do make a forceful arguement, but I need to point out that an attachment could be made (although it would cost a lot of money, and that could be a problem)

Let's say I want to make an attachment to my car so it can fly and race jet fighters.

What would I do with the car's petrol engine? If I add a propeller to it and tune the engine that still won't be enough to take on a jet fighter.
To actually take on a jet I'd need to add two jet engines to my car to give it a chance of keeping up.
So then that begs the question: why keep the petrol engine in the first place?
If I want to race a jet, there is no point in starting with something that can't be scaled up that far.
That is the problem you have with the Wii.

Wii graphics can be improved, but 360 or PS3 visuals are waaaaaaaaaaaay out of the question whether on high or low resolution.

The Wii isn't only a little bit less powerful.
The Wii's GPU is a Gamecube component that has been overclocked to run at 1.5 times as fast. The whole machine is only twice as powerful as a Gamecube. Essentially an 18month advancement on the gamecube. Wii hardware is 2003 technology. That is how Nintendo are able to make $50 profit on every console sold, and why Sony make nothing.
By comparison the PS3 is 20 times as powerful as the PS2. Roughly 10 to 12 times as powerful as the Wii.

That is why the Wii gets PS2 ports, because it is relatively close to last gen hardware. The PS3 and 360 versions are too far ahead of the Wii to be scaled back.

An attachment to the Wii just wouldn't make any sense.
If you added memory, the slow CPU would hold up the performance.
If you added two more CPUs the bandwidth of the bus would slow up the streaming of data.
If you add any one component the others let the performance down. Without actually replacing everything that is inside the white box you aren't going to be able to get 360 / PS3 performance.

Look at GTA 4. Look how much money it made?
Why did Rockstar make a 360 version when it had always sold GTAs on playstation? Answer: They wanted to maximise their revenue. Why then did they leave out the Wii? With the Wii's user base it would be madness not to create a Wii version if it were possible. If there was any way that Rockstar could have got the game running on Wii don't you think they would have done it?
Same with Infinity Ward and Call of Duty 4.

If you like performance, your only option is to buy a 360 / PS3 or if you love Nintendo franchises, then you'll have to wait til next generation.
I guess it just comes down to the type of games you like to play and how important technology is.

... If they make an attachement...

Here is my beef with nintendo. I was explaining to my girlfriend the other day why the Wii is so cheap. It's all the add on stuff they attach. For 3 more controllers thats 180$ and a memory card is more and a classic controller is more and... They don't even give you a built in battery pack to cut costs... The wii is one expensive piece and a "Graphics addon" would defeat the point of the wii. I love Boom Blox and a great many Wii titles like Zelda and Galaxy. They don't need graphics to make a good game just good Dev's and they have proven it. imho gameplay is was more important then Graphics...

If Nintendo stays with 480p the best graphics won't matter. Just try playing a PS3 or 360 on 480p and the games look last genration.

They don't. They still look current gen. Everyone goes on about resolution, but resolution isn't the difference it's the processing power.
Cars the movie by pixar on DVD looks way better than PS3 or 360 in 720p and that is in 480i.

6 - Im done underestimating anything
pc fans and developers such as crytek have flooded so many peoples minds that things are weaker than they are and BY A WHOLE LOT, things they said back in 2006 before ps3 came out are being proven wrong left and right. so i wouldnt doubt the machine as we have yet to see what a true ps3 game can look like, so who knows, maybe wii can pull off killzone 2 at that level that we saw it, cause thats still nothing compared to what the machine can really do.

Don't be so ridiculous. Thinking that the Wii can tackle Killzone 2 is stupid. I'm sorry to insult you, but it just is.

the wii cant get as good graphics as the ps3 and xbox360, but the graphics can be a whole lot better then they are now (especially games from 3rd party devs). The wii has almost been ignored by the developers and threated like a piece of crap... Some games have worse graphics then some ps2 games and I think the wii can do better than the ps2 did graphic wise.

And why nintendo made a console where they actually make money from selling their console. Is because they cant afford loosing money like sony and microsoft who are BIG companies compared to nintendo...If they did like them two companies they would go bankrupt and there would be no more nintendo...
