being an old gamer. Many of those points thought don't have to do with the actual hardcoreness of the gamer.
The reason the console gets turned on less is that the older gamer is not marketed to. We've already killed a universe full of hostile aliens, slayed a million dragons, saved a million damsels, and conquered the world a thousand times over. The crap that is supposed to be new, is only new to the noobs.
You also find that games are not challenging at all. What is the challenge of beating Oblivion to death compared to that of making yourself successfully self employed? Which has the better reward? Who gets excited about Gran Turismo when a real Nissan GTR is within your grasp?
With, FPS reflexes have nothing to do with it. If your playing Unreal 3 your playing quake2 with better graphics. If your playing halo your playing tribes. Who wants to buy the same game over and over for more than 11 years?
If your playing assassins creed you don't know what a good game is.
You avoid playing the wii cause it's gimmicky with shallow game play.
You don't play guitar hero because you took the same amount of time to learn to play an actual guitar. This falls into the greater challenge more satisfying reward category above.
