Reason to buy????
Uhm.... GAMES?
that should be the only reason to buy a game console and the PS3 has many great and even some legendary games. View

sorry no not a joke ^_^
Notice the word "dual analog" not dual shock and no it is not a joke the dual analog was released 6 months sooner then the n64.

Oct 1995 for Japan release of the dual analog (announced aug 1995 JP)
N64 release date June 23 1996 Japan.
the dual analog was released in NA after the N64 release date in Japan but the N64 was released after the Dual Analog was in peoples hand. View

yet again almost factually accurate but the
Dual Analog controller from Sony was released almost 7 months sooner then the N64 controller. View

Or... you'd just wait a bit longer to get the money and buy it anyway. Remember that the core gamer is around 30 years of age, University Grad and employeed in a job with an average salary of 50k+ now so the cost of games really doesn't affect sales as much as you might think.

(core being those who buy 5 or more games a year) View

They are not rival as of yet in the handheld market - and if you have a huge market that you can sell cheap product into.... you'll use it.
Please also see that several microsoft IPs appear to be in production for the DS....

They are doing a physical release - they are just trying to find a way to link your account to the game so as to avoid aftermarket poaching of their sales. View

Never say microsoft can't come out with a handheld of their own...
That said I think microsoft is working with nintendo in the handheld market. View

account linking

basically every game sold has a serial number and they link it to a psn account on a master server. If you sell the game the next person who buys it needs your account or it will not work.
Easy to implement if you are willing to survive the backlash.
They could also put in a transfer fee - if you sell the game they will transfer the rights for X$ to the new person - say 20% of the original cost. This would still allow transfers but also allow them to make money on the used market.
You could also store all saves online - and require them to use the linked game to use the saves.
(with a tech support division to help if someone damaged their original discs - but that is cheap if you can keep all the aftermarket sales to yourself)

This option is more palatable now - especially since they now have an account loyalty program. Before trophies people might have sold their accounts as well as the game but since they are attempting to entangle people into loyalty programs it makes it easier to make a account a permanent thing.

This has been discussed at several dev conferences and while it is held as a good idea... no one wants to risk the consumer backlash as of yet and without an account loyalty program it was thought to be a non starter(though we have been comparing it to MMOs recently) View

hmmm counterintuitive and counterproductive ideas:
The friends list takes long to load – if you have over 50 friends, your friends list can take a while to load, in addition, it takes some time for their online status to refresh. One way to solve this problem is to cache the list and reload it as needed. Currently, it seems that the list is loaded fresh every time the console is started.

(reason for the load - someone can remove you from their friends list - system calls home first to determine if list is still correct)

vs:

Limited friends list – Firmware 2.40 upped the friends list limit from 50 to 100, but this is still very restrictive. My friend list is closely reaching this new limit and it could be months before they decide to increase it again. Why not just allow an infinite number of friends?

yeah Princess Maker has been around for a long time... and no it is not a hentai title (or even etchi ... unless you try real real hard to make it that)
The idea is to bring the girl up to adulthood and set her on here way as the best possible person you can make her... View

Playstation Edge:
Playstation Edge is not what the fake poster put up but a set of development tools that was released to developers in 2006.
So no the trophy system has no discounts attached
but it does have in home trophies attached and games that utilize home may use entitlements which are items for home that you get because you purchased the game (only 1 per game - serial number - so rentals do not help) View

The real question should be:
Who the hell cares?

(again I hate the trophy system)
/shrug I guess someone does cares or they would not have spent the time and created such a site View

The issue is not really raytracing but that gains are no longer easily accessible to basic single processor development.
The design of chips is now at a point that things like electron tunneling and other quantum effects make it harder to create a denser circuit. Higher Speeds = Higher Temps on small spaces = Thermo break down etc...
The way to get performance improvements with modern computer theory is covered by three real options since the traditional Moore's law style approach to processors does not work anymore.
they are:
-Qbit Quantum Computers
-Multiprocessor
-Protein Computers

of the three only one is readily usable without another 10-20 years of development... multiprocessor -> Thus symmetric and asymmetric processing algorithms are the order of the day for programmers wanting to use the hottest hardware. View
