I own both consoles, but I've only ever 'bought' one 360 game (Halo 3), the rest like Gears or Fable I just borrow. I think that 360 enthusiasts have lower standards than PS3 owners, I've seen 360 owners get excited over really average games like Red Faction, then actually go out and buy them... whilst PS3 owners only really 'buy' the big hitters, but then they don't sell as well, my guess is this;
1. There is less variety in games on 360 than on PS3 (genre wise), the chances are that if you liked the last game that came out on 360, you're going to like the next, whilst on PS3 you may only like a game here and there.
2. I'd guess that the vast majority of 360 owners are of the age where, you have some sort of income but you don't have to pay your own bills yet, so you can spend your money on treating yourself. Whilst we know that the average PS3 owner is 29 years old.
3. 360 games get WAY more advertising, even the multiplatform games seem like exclusives.
4. There are alot of people that bought PS3s specifically for Blu-rays, effectively blurring the line between total install base and actual gamer install base.
5. There are more 360s duh lol
